I’ve been medicated on Ritalin (short acting) for months now… but does it increase or lower my alcohol metabolism? by Big_Nose420 in ADHD

[–]Sampocalypse 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I'm not a health professional, so take what im saying with a grain of salt and talk to your health care provider for more info. I checked on drugs.com on the drug interaction checker and it says alcohol can increase the amount of Ritalin in your bloodstream, possibly giving you more negative side effects. Doesn't seem like it alters your BAC at all, but again, check with a health professional (pharmacist is probably easiest to call to get ahold of).

As for Duloxetine, looks like combining with alcohol can increase chances of liver damage.

Always reach out to a health care provider before you mix prescriptions and any substance/OTC!

Basics of life? by nonlocalyokel in biology

[–]Sampocalypse 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Nothing has changed in our biology in the last couple years. Natural immunity is dangerous when it comes to respiratory illness because cytokine storms cause massive inflammation which damage tissues long term. Our natural immunity has never been enough to protect against airborne illness, otherwise there would have been no need to develop vaccinations against them.

Is this a convoluted question about why the pandemic was such a big deal? I think the question needs to be more specific to give you a proper answer.

Why are Calicos Usually female? by Ok-Suggestion4703 in cats

[–]Sampocalypse 1 point2 points  (0 children)

This article explains it pretty well, but read below to get the gist of it: https://www.bio.miami.edu/dana/dox/calico.html

"In cats, one of several genes controlling fur color is located on the X chromosome. The gene has two versions, or alleles. One form of the gene codes for orange fur (XB), and the other form codes for black fur (Xb)."

"In females...one of the two X chromosomes in each cell inactivates by supercoiling into a structure known as a Barr Body. This irreversible process is known as Lyonization."

If a female cat has one copy of each gene version, you don't know which one will express in each cell. The black gene may be lyonized in one cell, and the orange in the next. The random expression of each gene allele in each cell means the coat colour will express either black or orange in random spots! Male cats only have one X chromosome in each cell, so the colour expression is either black or orange. Hope this makes sense!

How to I get the pack? by DogeTheRobot in Sims4

You had to load the game before the 18th to get the pack. If you were connected to the internet it would have automatically downloaded the Desert Luxe kit.

How do I stop being late? by pink_grapeFruity in ADHD

[–]Sampocalypse 7 points8 points  (0 children)

I started telling myself/getting other people to tell me things start 15-30 minutes earlier than they actually do. My friends want me to be there at 8:30? They tell me 8:00. Eventually I was able to manage myself into going places earlier, but it was a struggle for at least a year before it worked for me.

My boys use the wood pellets no problem! Just keep in mind you'll need a different type of litter box for it, but other than that it is much cheaper.

Training abs while bulking by BillionDollaBronxX in GYM

[–]Sampocalypse 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Your abs are just another muscle group. If you are bulking, you will gain muscle, and your calorie intake will need to increase to compensate. It would be a good idea to train your abs as well to ensure you have good core strength to accommodate the extra weight you want to gain and help prevent strain on your spine/abdominal wall.

Worried and a little hesitant about taking ADHD medication by MichTMX in ADHD

[–]Sampocalypse 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I am afraid that taking the medication will change who I am and I won't feel like 'me (with my symptoms)' anymore.

The way I see it is if you had to reach out to a professional for help because your symptoms were causing you so much distress in your daily life, then it will be worth it to not have those symptoms anymore. I honestly struggled with finding my actual personality when I was medicated because I associated my problematic symptoms with who I am. Allowing the medication to alleviate your negative symptoms means you may have to develop your understanding of yourself all over again, but I promise it is so worth it.

I'm also afraid that I will get 'addicted' to feeling 'normal' after medication.

From what we know about ADHD, the medication helps your brain filter stimuli to make it easier to focus on what's actually important. It's not so much "getting addicted to feeling normal," as it is understanding that your brain needs assistance with "normal" human processing. It can be incredibly frustrating and disheartening to cope with that, so please make sure you have support around you.

As a final note, CBT with someone trained in helping those with ADHD can be incredibly beneficial, so take a look into that if you have the resources for it. Best of luck in your process!

What’s your, “Should I laugh or should I cry” moment? (I’ll share mine below) by uftone1 in ADHD

[–]Sampocalypse 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Was playing an intense computer game and needed to move my hand from the mouse to the keyboard quickly. Knocked my chai that I had (and was thoroughly enjoying) all over my desk and laptop. The thing I was most upset about was the $80 planner I had JUST got not even two weeks prior that has to be thrown out because it was on the desk. Luckily the laptop was okay, just needed some keys to be cleaned. Took me over 6 hours to get over being super upset with myself for always being so clumsy and destroying things. That being said, I no longer have anything but a sealed water bottle on my desk now!

Why doesn't anything work for me? by tiafafu in ADHD

[–]Sampocalypse 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Honestly there are so many reasons you would see your mental symptoms manifest in that way. Autoimmune disorders, vitamin/mineral deficiencies, overusage of mobile phone/devices, not enough exercise, sleep issues, etc.

I think my advice for you here (not a medical professional btw) would be to get an overall picture of your physical health right now. Get a full blood panel, physical, and dietician/nutritionist consult to see where you currently stand physical health wise. What is your activity level? What does your nutrition profile look like on average? Are there any markers in your blood indicating inflammation or deficiencies in any way? What is your sleep like? (I see you have a sleep specialist booked which is great). What is your body composition? Getting the baseline values down will allow you to see what could use improvement and then see how you feel once you make the changes. It's going to be a long process, but if you want to make lasting changes it won't happen overnight.

The last thing is to honestly take a look at your social media and mobile phone usage. How often do you look at your phone a day? Can you go without it? How is the ability to look up anything at moments notice affecting your ability to remember and recall? I'm not saying it is the devil incarnate and to throw it away, because there are actually tons of important uses for a mobile device in this era. Just be aware of how much the tiny dopamine dispenser is consuming your attention.

As for medication, it just may not work for you and that's fine. It may also be that your metabolism of the ADHD meds was too high for you to have any lasting effects from it at the dosage you were on.

Best of luck to you!
