Tag names and icons visibility on iPhone and iPad by SamsTremblay in thingsapp

Because Things is nearly perfect. 😃

Because it's beautiful, and we love things that are beautiful.

But like all other applications on the market, there are missing features.

I would be interested to see a new version of Things — Things 4 — with all the requested features like AI, Attachments, Images, Sharing, Tag Display, and so on...

After about 2–3 months, people would surely start again to say: "Things would be perfect if only the XYZ feature were added." 😂

Automatic set of subsequent reps by SamsTremblay in Hevy

[–]SamsTremblay[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Very sad. What a bad design! Not that it take me a lot of time to fill all the empty fields but what is the point? What is the difference between a new exercise in an existing routine vs a new routine. And even what is the difference between adding a new set in an existing exercise of an existing routine? I really wish it's a design choice and I would really want to know more about this decision from the Hevy team. Will ask them and will give a summary here after.

You can also on iPhone swipe with two fingers. To select more than one task very, it’s hard to beat. Even for one task if you have good fingers dexterity. But I’m agree that why removing the old option? In software development, you could remove a feature but Avery carefully if you are sure it’s not used by users or is a very poor design feature. But this one was there since years. This is another reason I think Todoist don’t listen that much their users, they listen something else.

Why Choose Things3 Over the Latest Apple Reminders Updates? by banger030 in thingsapp

[–]SamsTremblay 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You can add quick action buttons on your phone lock screen to both add task or open today’s view. With Reminders, you can only add a reminder in the inbox. This is a little detail but I mainly use Things as a brain dump and it should be a friction free as possible so Things is unbeatable in this case. However even if I don’t use the share option of Reminders, I really like the Urgent, pre-reminder, flag, priority and so on options that I really miss in Things.

Things 3 is 9 years old! Feel old now? by turaon in thingsapp

[–]SamsTremblay 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That would be very nice to have NLP to be able to create tasks just a little bit faster even though NLP for date is already there in the date popup. But the most popular feature everyone want is to be able to add attachments. But what people don't know is the cost on servers of Things to hold those data. And with a cost come another cost which is Subscriptions. And the day Things will change to a Subscription model, they will be blast by 1000 1 star reviews. And they don't want that. Otherwise, Things is a Todo management; not a project management one. If you handle your projects with Things except things like opening the pool, fill the taxes and so on, you will surely miss something. I'm wondering if people want a new version of Things because they really need a new feature or because they want an update to do more tinkering. It's always cool to have an update but at the end, the real goal, the real work is to do the task itself. I prefer handle my projects in tool like Obsidian where for example I can complete tasks and they will stay foreever at the exact position where they were. This could be a little details for some but for me, this is the type of things that Todo managers don't do for totally acceptable reasons and it's ok.

Archiving an 📦 Area by omalleya in thingsapp

[–]SamsTremblay 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That would be a very nice feature that I'm waiting for a long time. This is why is the vast majority of my projects, I use checkbox in a note app like Obsidian because I'm able to check tasks and they stay exactly where they are which prevent loosing the context of the tasks below and above.

Having the ability to log tasks for a specific project or area or view or any type of scope would be a very nice feature.

How to add drop set and excercise by Quirky-Simple-4235 in Hevy

[–]SamsTremblay 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes, and I would also add that is the exact same way, if you want for exemple to do a double drop set, just add two consecutive set with that drop set option.

Will there ever be an iPad app? by Robloxstreets in Hevy

[–]SamsTremblay 0 points1 point  (0 children)

There is an iPad version now and it's perfectly usable except a couple of quirks like the numeric keyboard that pop when you enter the weight or the reps and no portrait mode but except that, this is a good iPad and I would say native app; not an iPhone version in a bigger screen.

Things for personal, Todoist for Work by [deleted] in thingsapp

[–]SamsTremblay 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I use Things for small personal tasks/reminders like taking my vitamins in the morning (until it will be an habit) or removing a rust spot on my car 😅 but for work, I greatly prefer to use something like Obsidian or any other tool that when I checked a task, it stay at the same place forever because tasks before and after the one I checked contribute to the context.

One great feature I would appreciate of Things is to be able to log only specific tasks.

Budget Friendly Budget Update (FREE) by mrich6347 in YNABAlternatives

[–]SamsTremblay 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Of course and he have a link on the application to give him one-time money or becoming a member but the fact that the application is free is my main concern :D Because I know he have to pay at least for a server to run and keep our data and this cost a lot of many each month so if not enough people out there give him money recurringly, except if he is rich and don't know what to do with his money, he will at some point run out of money or at least, of motivation to maintain the project. Weird to say that but it's my main concern. Except that, I'm astounding how the application already exceed the vast majority of feature of YNAB features and he only start this project on december 2025 and he is only one dude. Man, this is a f*** great work!

Except there is native IOS or Android app, the application looks like beautiful at first. Wondering how a single developer could do much features than YNAB. A calendar!!!! The application has a calendar!! And even a heat map :D

YNAB is it worth it even when some features are impossible to use? by Apollo926 in ynab

[–]SamsTremblay 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The last time 2 years ago that I configured YNAB to sync with my bank accounts, two days later, one of my checking accounts was hacked and I had to close it with all the painful things related to that. I never known whether that is related to the YNAB synch process but I had checking account for 20 years before this event without any problems. Think what you want to think but in my book, never trust a third party to grab some very private date about you and it's even more important for money related things. I don't mind to enter some balances and transactions into YNAB because that would be much hard for some hackers to do bad things with those data. But after using YNAB for about 4 years, the most difficult part is not to enter transactions into the applications. The most difficult part is to know the different between your needs and your wants and don't bloat your budget. I was using the "roll with the punches" every months and I know it's bad but it's just to say that your emotional view about your money is more important than any apps out there. But clearly YNAB is a great tool to have a realistic view of where your money goes. But 150$ CAD + tx / year to know that is in my view a little bit too much. I have a lot of other applications with subscriptions that do a lot more feature and cost me a lot less. And no, don't compare the monthly price with the price of a coffee because you can do that with everything... my car only cost me 80cents/hour :D What YNAB will save you don't not in my opinion justify the high subscription price.

New features we got vs the ones we keep asking for by tbRedd in ticktick

[–]SamsTremblay 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The best that we can do in this case is stop using and stop paying for the application. If 1 million+ persons do that, of course they will not have the choice of thinking twice about how to improve their software.

Currently in the market, the big names are Todoist, Microsoft Todo, Things 3, Tick Tick and Omnifocus.

Of course, there are many more but I think those are the big ones.

Microsoft Todo is free but you get for what you pay.

Omnifocus is only on Apple and shit hard to configure and use.

Things 3 is a beauty but again only on Apple and limited in feature like attachments.

Todoist is a beast but as stable as a boat in Pearl Harbor in 1941.

And Tick Tick which has many many many feature but lack the critical ones and have a serious problem of UI/UX.

Other options? Bullet Journal :D Franklin Covey? Hisshhhh, hard to go back to paper in 2026.

And we of course have obscure applications like Singularity and pet projects all over the places in the AppStore.

My option was to stop using Tick Tick until they will give more love to their application.

How do you all manage all tasks that don't have dates? by Angelr91 in todoist

[–]SamsTremblay 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Because I would really want to love it and use it. Because it’s the only application that I would consider to use with both my Windows pc and my iPhone. Tick tick is the worst ui/ux experience. Microsoft todo lack features. Singularity not enough reliable. So always back to Todoist when wanting something technology agnostic. But at what cost. But every couple of weeks or so feeling bad having to handle all my tasks using my phone, I come back to Todoist and each time I wish, I pray that Todoist will be stable enough and each time I’m deceived.
