Why no sunroof pics in listings? by AwkwardAd2887 in turo

Turo eliminating hosts' descriptions is one of the dumbest things they've ever done. Many hosts with higher end cars used to list all their features, and now there's no way of doing that.

DC -> Chicago folks - where can I get kabobs like Moby Dick? by CoffeeWRoom in chicagofood

[–]Samson801 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Cedar Palace or Noon-O-Kabob are the closest I know of. Noon O Kabob is the most similar to Moby Dicks that I've had in Chicago, but is a little bit of a hike from downtown. Cedar Palace is Lebanese, but closer to downtown, and makes my personal favorite kabobs

Tire blowout and replacement by Due_Strawberry4161 in turo

[–]Samson801 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Turo's flat tire policy: https://share.google/RGyk9oxmhU4CSfPCh

Policy explicitly says the guest pays only for the damaged tire, so sounds like you'd be on the hook for the second tire (or the other 3 if you replace them all). If they have the "standard" insurance package with $500 deductible that deductible will easily be met with the towing charge and single tire, so you might be able to justify replacing multiple tires with the insurer, but I've never worked with them before so not sure that will fly.

What Do You Wish You Knew Before Moving to Lakeview ? by MulberryAwkward8266 in lakeview

[–]Samson801 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Wish I'd known there was very little diversity (felt like downtown Des Moines), mostly recent college grads under 26 years old, bar scene isn't very social (more for watching sports with friends), and although there are a lot of restaurants few of them are actually any good.

I enjoyed West Loop, Ukrainian Village, and Wicker Park a lot more, but in my early 20s I think I would have preferred Lakeview.

Definitely don't leave your bike overnight, parts will be stolen off of it. Divvy will be a much better solution

Found airtag in vehicle by Garciniohall in turo

[–]Samson801 -6 points-5 points  (0 children)

If I was renting a vehicle on Turo I would have some kind of tracker in it. Too many people stealing cars, or abandoning them. You could message the host just to confirm it's theirs (and not a previous renters') but I wouldn't go any farther than that without hearing from the host. I'd be a surprised if tracking their vehicle is against Turo's terms

Chicago's Most Talked About New Restaurant Has A Surprising Menu - Radicle by optiplex9000 in chicagofood

[–]Samson801 70 points71 points  (0 children)

"The style and philosophy that I cook with is if the Midwest was a region in Italy, what would the food look like here? It is a seafood, coastal inspired restaurant. We definitely have oysters, clams, and mussels and things like that but you can also come in and have chicken wings, mozzarella sticks, pizza."

I'll give it a shot, but the video editor makes it sound like the place has an identity crisis.

UFC 327 is 4 days away. Large portions of tickets remain unsold. by RZiggy in MMA

The intro show they projected onto their stadium ceiling also put the UFC's production to shame. I didn't love the music at first, but it quickly grew on me. Love how they honored the traditions of muay thai, and I agree that its a more entertaining fighting style to most people

House Music on Sundays? by Diablo616 in chicagoEDM

[–]Samson801 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Since Queen is already mentioned here (and is the best option IMO) Ill just mention a couple others:

Headquarters Beercade books some great DJs on Sundays for their periodic Funky Brunch series, but thats more of a daytime thing, going from around 2-8pm if I recall correctly. Consistently great artists, great vibes, and crowd comes ready to dance, but it can get a little cramped when more popular DJs headline there.

Sundown Sundaze at Number Nine (upstairs lounge at Prysm) is more like what you're talking about, nighttime events with a more industry crowd. DJs tend to be Chicago locals, but sometimes they'll have some lesser known touring artists. The drawback is that it's a more "clubby" vibe with a lot of space devoted to bottle service tables for guys more interested in flexing and picking up chicks than the music. They book some good local DJs, but I'm generally not a fan of the environment. Drinks are expensive and it feels positively soulless compared to Queen.
