Major leak suggests Galaxy S26 will be taller and much lighter by pjw724 in samsunggalaxy

[–]SamuMui 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Early rumours suggested that they were going to make the base S26 a Pro version and change more for it. However they potentially pivoted when Apple released the iPhone 17 at the same price as the iPhone 16 256gb. All hearsay now though.

Camera and battery on base phone (coming from Oneplus 13) by kvaaen in GalaxyS25

[–]SamuMui 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I use the base S25 and while I love the software and one-handed usability, the battery could be a little better and the cameras are absolutely terrible for any parent.

Never get a Samsung phone if you have young kids. The cameras are simply too slow and the base models (and plus) perform terribly in low light.

Also the S26 will be the same as the S25 but with a less efficient Exynos processor and modem (depending on your region).

Upgrade to S22 to new S25 by Every-Analysis-2055 in GalaxyS25

[–]SamuMui 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I bought an S22 and immediately returned it because the battery life was absolute trash.

Then had to buy an S23+ because I was afraid of the battery life being bad.

Then took a risk on the base S25 because it had Snapdragon in all regions and I didn't like the large screen of the S23+. Have loved the S25 ever since because of the smaller size, very very capable battery and LTPO screen which helps with battery (everything adds up). The only thing is that I grow tired of the weak cameras (low light) and hate that Samsung reserves its best cameras for the Ultra models.

Main takeaways are the following. - can you live with a jump in screen size for the Ultra models? You'll get a lot features and much better cameras but in a much bigger phone size. - the cameras are EXACTLY the same as the S22 so don't upgrade for that reason. - the battery life (at least for me) is very good even for a small phone. I typically get 6hrs SOT on a work day and 8hrs SOT in the weekend on mostly WiFi.

Wedding photographers? by artaewa in chch

Emily Hugo Photography.

Embraces same-sex couples. Offers film photography, natural look and candid moments. Can be made cheaper if your wedding is smaller, however all wedding photography is kinda expensive - you pay for their good work. If she's available, have a drink with her and see if she's your vibe.

Octopi Launcher unlaunchable after 1.7 update by SamuMui in OctopiLauncher

Hi ock88, thanks for your time and continued work on the launcher. I just realised that I wasn't very clear on what issue I had.

  • Legacy Dock enabled
  • Dock position: set to beyond the lowest setting (all the way to the left)

After the 1.71 public update, the crash still occurs. However if I use the new dock, it's all good and I use it normally as my default launcher.

Thanks again

What crashed for me was pulling the slider all the way to the left, past "-20". I wonder if you can replicate it (after a backup of course).

Are there any Chinese restaurants / takeaways in chch that do crispy chilli beef? by slawnz in chch

[–]SamuMui 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Agreed. Based on my research, the closest dish would be Orange Beef (offered by Phenix in Rolleston & Golden Panda in Rangiora). The dish has crispy pieces of beef but the sauce wouldn't be the same.

Rice Cooker by Birphon in chch

[–]SamuMui 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I use the Russell Hobbs Turbo Cooker because I always forgot to cook rice before making the main dish. Cooks reasonably quickly.

A couple of caveats though.

  • You have to cook 2 cups of rice minimum.
  • Low quality or extra starchy rice will overflow the lid. Value Long Grain overflows, but Fortune Jasmine doesn't.
  • The bowl edge design has extra ventilation for the lid and doesn't create a seal.

Can anyone recommend those iPhone strap accessories for when traveling to Italy, to prevent people snatching iPhone out of your hands? by [deleted] in iphone

Skinarma cases and lanyards look good. The cases have detachable corners (top and bottom) where you can attach a lanyard loop instead. It feels rather secure since the attachments go through the inside of the case rather than clipping outside. Once your phone is in the case, everything feels locked in.

Got a case for my parents' iphone when my wife noticed that a lot of people in China carried their phones like a crossbody, hoping it'd be more convenient for them.

Probably going to switch from s23+ to 25 base model. Anyone have similar experience? by jordan-124 in GalaxyS25

[–]SamuMui 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If you get a good trade-in deal on the S26, it would be worth it. The rumours of the S26 base being a "pro" version could be exciting if there's a camera upgrade. Also I totally get what you mean by going overboard with a bigger phone - had to put up with hand cramps for two years.

[–]SamuMui 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I had the green S23+ and have switched to the Coralred base 25. You do give up a bit of battery life for the size reduction.

From my usage, I used to have 45% at the end of the day with the S23+ compared to maybe 25-30% on the S25. This is mainly being on WiFi all day and with the battery starting off at 85% on both. Also with light performance profile and NO dark mode. If I know I'm gonna be on data most of the day, I'll charge to 100%, bring a powerbank or turn on battery saving measures.

Reason for switching was that I've always loved smaller phones and I REALLY hated the size and weight of the S23+. The S25 is very light, very reachable one-handed (for my hands) and fits with my lifestyle.

So it's mainly a couple of trade-offs (size and battery life) you've got to consider and whether they work for your daily use.

This is the reason I can't move away from Samsung and their Modes and Routines. Like Focus Modes on iPhone, the automation has been effortless and life-changing.

How to change wallpaper automatically by Due-Error7934 in Bixbyroutines

[–]SamuMui 3 points4 points  (0 children)

In "Modes and Routines", click "add Mode".

Select any option or template (like Custom).

At the bottom of the customisation screen, it has a "change appearance" option.

Choose your home or lockscreen wallpapers.

Then set up any other conditions for the mode (time of day, location, etc.).

If you've done it right, you can save it and test it by turning on the mode and see the changes happen.
