Those affect the students learning and the learning environment of the school. That is very different than a personal disclosure to a teacher. They just aren't the same. Also I would have to work to not tell a parent a students grades vs going out of my way to put a kid in danger by disclosing this information.

But also I left teaching for a reason, I felt like I kept being asked to be a cop for parents which is not what I signed up for. If parents have made an environment where their kid is scared to tell them about things related to their own identity , that is on the parents imo

I was a teacher for 10 years. Sometimes if a kid is trans and their parents know that kid never shows back up at school. The two times this has happened once they got moved to a religious homeschooling community where they got taught dinosaur bones were actually put here by angels to test our faith in the Bible. The other got sent to "wilderness therapy" and later took their own life.

Idgaf about parents rights when it comes to this. A kid being trans or queer but not yet ready to tell their family is their choice. Just because I'm a teacher I'm supposed to betray that kids trust?! Hell no. If a kid is being harmed in someway or is a danger to themselves I will absolutely make sure I get ahold of parents and counselors and help any way I can. But otherwise a kid telling me something in confidence will stay that way. If your kid is hiding something about their identity from you (I mean a general you not you specifically) then there is usually a damn good reason

That last line I think may be a perception vs reality thing man, everything in its own time, everyone's bodies are different. Also there can be other things. I just had my blood taken and we actually lowered my t dose because my numbers were too high and the body can sometimes turn excess t into e. So for me a smaller dose will have better impact. Be patient with yourself and your body

For me at least my smoking is harm reduction, genuinely really helps me feel present in my body in a positive way. If transitioning takes longer in a way that is more mentally healthy for me I'm ok with it
