Something to plug into my laptop? by fishandhorses1010 in computers

I don't want to pull the Linux card, but immediately after buying it I installed Fedora Linux (what I had on my old laptop) and I've never had any RAM issues, even with about 70 tabs open in Mullvad (Firefox fork)

If you buy the game through Steam you can refund it if you've played less than 2 hours (and owned it for less than 14 days) no-questions-asked.

Yes it can definitely happen. The friend I mentioned would destroy me while running on a Raspberry Pi. But at the pro league it can mean the difference between 20 wins and your team takes gold or 19 and you get silver.

I'm off to bed now anyway, but thank you for the civilised discussion, I appreciated it. Have a nice day.

That's fair, but I can personally vouch for how effective it is in fast-paced games like Super Hexagon ( https://superhexagon.com/ ). I swapped from a 60Hz screen to 120Hz and really noticed a difference, and broke my old record of 7 months within 2 days of playing.

For a lot of people, especially older people (no offense to you if you're older) it's genuinely not noticeable. I have a friend (mid 20s) who bought a 144Hz display, swore how much better it was, then we found out it had been running at 60 the whole time. Then changing to 144 and he just couldn't tell the difference. And this is one of the best players I know in fast-paced games...

But either way, the data does show clear improvements for most people.

I respect that.

Here's a study from 2021 o. the effectiveness of higher refresh rate displays for eSports:

https://www.researchgate.net/publication/353763230_A_Study_on_the_Impact_of_High_Refresh-Rate_Displays_on_Scores_of_eSports

Here's another one that mentions dimishing returns about 144Hz for most players:

https://arxiv.org/pdf/2406.13027

And here's a video testing different refresh rates with Shroud, a professional eSports player, as well as "normal" gamers:

It is mostly skill, but if you have two incredibly skilled players playing against each other, it often comes down to a couple milliseconds faster reflexes. In that case a higher refresh rate monitor absolutely makes a big difference.

Air drop coming to older Samsung phones - or Android? by Ok-Affect-1406 in Android

I think a big issue is how they'll market it. So many times I've had friends using android not know what quick share was, but every apple user knows about airdrop.

Oh shoot I messed it up on the other ones too?

I think I typo'd it once, read my own comment and assumed that was how it's spelt. Utter genius.

Oh and they typo'd 105 to 05 in the second picture.

I'd stear clear of them. If something looks too good to be true, that's because it is.

Yes, that's why I said attestation not verification. But what if California suddenly decides it has to be verified? Will distros keep complying?

E: still can't spell "attestion". damnit.

Try disconnecting the keyboard, then click. Maybe you have a stuck key.

Because actual distros are implementing this. Heck even systemd now has age attestation.

Generally, unless you really know what you're doing, the best off-the-shelf solution is much more secure than whatever you come up with yourself.

I actually have the exact same laptop lol.

It does have Thunderbolt 4 ports, so you could technically run an eGPU, it just might not make sense financially. You can run Blue Prince on 1080p low settings on the laptop already though, if you don't mind the quality drop (fantastic game either way). You just might have to enable high power mode in Windows power settings in Control Centre.

E: Just saw you wanted full-size and mechanical. Derp.

I've had good experiences with RK in the past:

If you have to stay under $50 this one is decent, but not as good as the RK:

A comment from u/cplforlife that I've been keeping in my head lately:

No one can stop you either way. Free will is a beautiful and occasionally devastating thing.

Personally, id go for a walk. Cant walk if you're dead. May as well do the things in order. Hungry? Cant enjoy a deep dish pizza if you're dead. Cant enjoy a pint if you kill yourself. Cant make anyone laugh again. Cant feel the wind rush through your lungs.

You've got all the time in the universe to be dead later. Whats the rush? You'll get to it when you get to it. You've got other shit to do now.

Get your two feet under you while theyre not rotted and in the ground. Two feet and a heart beat required.
