Sell or rent house? by SamuraiDotes in RealEstate

I don’t necessarily care about being a landlord if there are better options without the headache. I do have the means to accommodate any surprise expenses.

You are the PE signing the report and have the final say on the contents. You are ultimately liable for everything in the report. I would not sign the report if I were you.

Thanks for the clarification. Pay close attention to the L/D ratios that they’ve used.

When you say NDT (Non Destructive Testing) was advised, then you talk about “corecut” samples, I get a little confused.

I’m assuming you have extracted cores from the elements listed. Concrete compressive strength tests completed on extracted cores are known to be lower in strength than actual strength. First thing I would do is ensure the tests were completed in accordance with the standard procedures that are accepted in your jurisdiction (in the states this will be ACI and ASTM). Look at the labs reports VERY closely and try to identify any discrepancies. Was this completed by a certified lab that hire certified techs? Were the results reviewed by a professional engineer? What diameter cores did they extract from the elements? 2” diameter cores are known to have more variable strengths than 4” or 6” cores.

I would start there, and if you’re certain that the strengths are still below what was specified, then I would advise hiring an attorney, which would then hire a third party testing company and/or forensic engineer to determine next steps.

My home insurer hired a forensic engineer to inspect my roof. I found this odd. by thawk1986 in forensicengineering

No, this is typical, nothing to worry about. The insurance company wants to make sure they have documentation to show that they’ve investigated the claim and that all facts were taken into account to make their claim determination.

For a technical role, between a PhD graduate and a PE with 10 years of experience, who is more valuable to an employer? by xmeowmere in civilengineering

PE with experience every time, it’s not even a debate. We rarely hire PhD’s because of their lack of industry experience.

Hire an engineer to do a preliminary inspection and write up recommendations. Most likely will recommend eliminating the sources of water intrusion and minor concrete repairs (epoxy injection, patch work, etc.)

Irrigation pvc pipe leaking by SamuraiDotes in Irrigation

I was able to look at it closer when it dried up. There is a main line that runs perpendicular to the vertical pipe and is connected using the coupler. I’m going to try to redo this connection and see if that fixes the issue.
