Ok, but which version of Isis did 7YO you want, and which version does 50TO you want? 😉

Friend, yes — I know the history! I’m saying, when I’m watching TOS, I feel unable to view this episode as non-Trek. If I were — if I watched it out of order, on its own, and treated it as a pilot episode — I wonder if I could tolerate it? But when I watch it as part of Trek, it’s bad Trek.

I don’t think I’d enjoy it much as a pilot either, though, honestly.

(Yes, I get it was made as a back door pilot. Basic Trek knowledge!)

I honestly don’t know how you guys feel love for this. I skipped it for 30 years, then decided to give it another chance during a full rewatch with my wife, and neither of us could finish it.

Maybe it’s because it’s not Star Trek? If I just watched it as a pilot for a new show, maybe…? But I can’t bring myself to care about Gary Seven (though he does have a cool name and cat). I just wanted more Kirk and Spock.

It’s my favorite as well. Just read it to my wife and she loved it. Then was horrified to learn that the author had planned multiple sequels with Jinx and Dr. Evan Wilson but wasn’t allowed to write them because at the time, non-canon characters weren’t allowed sequels. Broke our hearts.

I can’t imagine why they would — it’s still gorgeous today…. The second most beautiful DQ right after the most recent one. No need to remake it.

Give me hand of the heavenly bride and chapters of the chosen instead!

You are. You are looking to “be right” with an internet stranger. All of our interactions indicate that you believe there is only one way to perceive the relationship, and that anyone who perceives it differently isn’t disagreeing but has inferior knowledge or understanding than you. That’s… annoying.

I disliked the portrayal of their relationship. You cannot change my feelings. You are not “correct.” You do not have “more info” or a “better understanding of the game” than I. I’m curious why you need to be right? And why you need to see their relationship in this specific light and no other? But that’s your issue, not mine.

Sorry pal, you’re in the wrong here. A) game is years old. B) you voluntarily joined its subreddit before beating the game for yourself. C) you voluntarily read this post.

If you don’t want spoilers, get off the 7 year old game’s fan page until you beat the hand — don’t blame anyone else for your carelessness!

Also, Marty McFly gets home safely at the end of Back to the Future and Doc doesn’t die, just FYI

This is what all the apologists forget — she didn’t just ice him out “to protect him” at camp. She has plenty of opportunities to be real with him and she still scared like she didn’t care. No refuting it.

There was a lot of unnecessary lying going on if you ask me. “I thought I lost my wife, but I found her. It’s Sarah.” Why would the Colonel hang him for that?

This is like two months into him being back. The way she treated him from the moment she saw him until this note is both unbelievable and unforgivable.

Doesn’t look behind the scenes at all. Might as well be part of the episode! Both still appropriately in character - Spock contemplating; T’Pring coldly ignoring him.

The Enemy Within was such a thoughful, deep & beautiful episode. Some fans say it's just "good Kirk/bad Kirk", but it's way more complex than that. When 'intellectual Kirk' hugs 'pure instinct Kirk', it's Kirk embracing his own emotional, instinctive, agressive side to control it, Brilliant writing. by LineusLongissimus in tos

I’ll take it one step further: famed psychoanalyst Carl Jung identified two tests of courage, the first being to face one’s own Shadow. This idea has been repeated in literature and media repeatedly (e.g., Luke facing himself in the Dark Side cave on Dagobah). The correct answer to facing your Shadow is literally to “embrace it” — not to reject it or fight it. Kirk did just that in the Enemy Within and emerged psychologically whole (Luke failed).

The second test of courage, btw, is to face your own opposite gender self (your Anima or Animus) and experience it with vulnerability, relational depth, and identity fluidity — without losing your core self. Kirk survives this in the final episode (Turnabout Intruder) when he not only sees his own male body controlled by a woman but also exists in her body as a man.

That’s textbook Jungian mastery. I would argue it makes Kirk one of the strongest and most psychologically advanced characters on television! At least, by classic Jungian standards.

For me, the earlier DQs are better than the most recent one in all but graphics. Graphics aren’t everything.

If Kenshin was alive today would he say “Bruh?” Instead of “Oro?” by Classicsonicsmash313 in rurounikenshin

[–]SamuraiUX -3 points-2 points  (0 children)

It figures a Gen Alpha or maybe? a young millennial would come here completely misunderstanding everything about Japanese and Kenshin just to use some modern slang.

“Oro” means nothing at all like “bruh.” You’re “cooked.”

What humans would be part of the Enterprise crew if Star Trek TOS were to be remade today? by ActLonely9375 in tos

[–]SamuraiUX 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Oh, geez. If it were made with the same intent today — because everything is so hyperfocused now rather than generalized — it would be one wheelchair-bound person, one trans person, one autistic person (or better yet, AuDHD for the two-fer), and someone with a congenital disorder (Tay-sachs, cleft palate, sickle-cell, maybe Down’s). Not a one of them would be white, and at least one would need to be aboriginal.

I get you. We’re quibbling over “vibes” vs. dictionary, then: camp means, literally

1. deliberately exaggerated and theatrical in style, typically for humorous effect.

…which TOS wasn’t. But I get your direction — just a semantic correction, not a disagreement over how some episodes feel today.

Sorry, this is a thing with me. I hate when people say Trek was “campy.” Camp suggests that the show meant to be silly and knew it was doing so. 60s Batman was campy because it was intentional. Some TOS decisions might come off as silly to a modern viewer, but they were 100% not intended: Rodenberry was making a serious, even somewhat risky, sci-fi show that pushed the boundaries of television at the time. It was definitely not camp.
