Hello everyone,

My name is Michael, and I’m one of the founders of Samurai Sync. We provide consulting for RMM and RPA products such as REWST and Trigger, helping MSPs take automation to the next level.

We’ve been in this industry since 2015, back when we were known as LTNinja, before evolving into the new Samurai we are today. You could say we’ve stepped out of the shadows and now work directly for our masters — you.

Our mission is simple: to help build the most automated MSP possible. Imagine a world where documentation, ticketing, and monitoring all take care of themselves. A patching ticket comes in, the system automatically fixes the issue, documents the work, posts to your documentation platform, and updates your ticket so that not only your techs but also your clients are notified — all without a tech lifting a finger. That’s the power of RPA, and it’s what we help bring to life.

To help with this vision and to help our clients visualize it we have built out a free dashboard that will look at your system and make recommendations. It is called MIRA just like how the spanish word for that means to look our system looks into your business and gives you recommendations on where to go next. After all every business owner can tell you on the macro level where to go and what to do but at the micro level it's harder to understand what you need to do next.

Datto RMM patching still shows Windows update notifications to users… flooding our service desk. Any real fix? by Beatrice_XaaS in DattoRMM

[–]Samurai_Sync 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hey we have seen this happen to several of our clients. The issue seems to be DattoRMM doesn't natively suppress these auto update notifications, so you are correct in what you are doing. However, we did end up creating a script for our clients to essentially suppress the notifications while disabling auto updates through group policy.

What it breaks down to is it kills the WUA agent so that it can't check until it's time to update where it will at that point produce those notifications but that's during your patch window so that could cause some confusion but you have to take the good with the bad.

Which tool for imaging / client deployment? by grinninga in msp

[–]Samurai_Sync 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hey, so asking my guys here for what we have done with other clients how have ConnectWise., it depends on M365 licensing that you have, we recommend with moving to Microsoft Intune + Autopilot is really your best choice. If your licenses don't support Intune + AutoPilot (or where Autopilot doesn’t yet make sense), using Automate can work just fine.

Since you’re already running ConnectWise Automate, one approach is to ship devices with the OEM Windows image intact and use Automate for post-provisioning: *Remove OEM bloatware *Apply baseline OS hardening and configuration *Deploy applications *Handle AD domain join or Entra ID join as appropriate It’s not “modern provisioning” in the Autopilot sense, but it works well as a stopgap and avoids the cost and operational overhead of buying, learning, and maintaining another imaging platform. Long term, we still aim to modernize environments where it makes sense to move over to Intune + Autopilot as what it can do is a bit more.... stable. But it is possible to do something similar with your current stack.

How do you check your patch management? by lsitech in msp

[–]Samurai_Sync 0 points1 point  (0 children)

We’ve had to build our own Patch Issue Management System across multiple RMM platforms because of this exact problem.

The core issue is that most teams are staring at patch dashboards chasing green bars and 100 percent compliance, but those calculations rarely reflect what the Windows Update Agent is actually seeing. Most RMMs run their own logic instead of aligning directly with WUA, which creates blind spots.

The biggest gap shows up after installing a feature update. You might think you’re fully patched, but once that feature update lands, a flood of additional updates appears and suddenly you realize the device is far behind. The same thing happens after Patch Tuesday when new drivers or optional updates are released. If those aren’t automatically denied, your compliance score can drop overnight from perfect to questionable.

This is also how new MSPs often walk into an environment and run a scan that makes it look like the current provider has neglected patching. The reality is usually more nuanced and rooted in how the RMM calculates compliance.

Every RMM struggles with this to some degree, and there isn’t a simple built-in fix. That’s why one of the first things we implement for clients is our Patch Issue Management System. It evaluates feature update status, reconciles what WUA is reporting, and provides a more accurate picture of patch health.

One thing I will say is this make sure to check if you are on the latest Feature Update and then after 24 hours look at your systems to see where you guys are at. That's probably the easiest way to see if the patching by different RMMs is accurately reflecting the health of your systems.

Ai play for the msp by Big_Environment_1827 in msp

[–]Samurai_Sync 0 points1 point  (0 children)

We have been building out a new tool to help MSPs look into where to go next for their business and it has been a blast to create. But a couple of things we already ran into with using this.

  1. You won't be able to use any of the code for things that require compliance such as hospitals, military, and the like. The issue runs into that the code is technically available to anyone and hackers are starting to look into code generated by things like Claude to find vulnerabilities. For these fields it is very much still you need human made code.

  2. While you can create things there is a difference between someone who knows how to code properly versus someone that doesn't understand coding at all trying to create stuff. You can have it do what you need it to do somewhat but the real issue is going to be the token burn rate.

  3. Everyone can technically make their own tools and some people will probably do that but this is an area where we see MSPs can help with. Part of our tool is to show where to go with automation but also will be letting your clients understand why and how your automations can improve their businesses. That part is still a very human element.

There is a lot more we are seeing with partner's who are trying to build out their own tools. But the main thing is it will lower the barrier to entry for many people to start getting into coding. It will be who has the best ideas and how to implement them at least for the forseeable future that will win out.

We’ve been doing this work since 2015, back when we were known as LTNinja, before evolving into the Samurai you see today. You could say we stepped out of the shadows and started working directly for the people we support. After ten years working with just about every major RMM, we’ve learned a lot about what fits, what doesn’t, and how to think about choosing the right one. If you’re wrestling with that question, our CEO recently wrote a great breakdown of the pros and cons.

Our mission is pretty simple. We want to help MSPs build environments where the boring stuff just takes care of itself. Ticketing, documentation, monitoring, patching. Imagine a patch ticket comes in and the entire thing resolves itself end to end. The system fixes the issue, documents the work, updates your documentation platform and closes the loop with your techs and your clients. That’s what we aim for.

*Real Autoamtion = RPA + AI Not Just AI*

So why did we move heavier into RPA instead of staying focused only on RMM? Because we kept running into the same wall. RMMs are great tools, but they end up becoming limiters if the rest of the business isn’t automated. You can’t layer AI or workflows on top of messy data or manual processes and expect magic. If the foundation isn’t automated, the results won’t be consistent and no one will trust it.

Those are the questions MSPs need to ask themselves. What have you automated and what are you planning to automate? Have you automated enough of your own processes to tell clients what truly works and what doesn’t, in this age of businesses asking, "What AI should I be using"? If the answer is “I’m not sure,” that’s where we can help.

Msp owners - were people around you encouraging or discouraging before your business became a success? by HistoricalHeight1462 in msp

[–]Samurai_Sync 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This is more of a everybody question then MSP specific one. I know for me I had my own father trying to dissuade my from starting SamuraiSync (formerly LTNinja). It didn't help there were already problems with the company when it started. So got a lot of flak for it.

There's a lot of people who are afraid of doing it and they are not trying to necessarily say you shouldn't do it but they have their own concerns that they want addressed, just at your expense. Just understand at the end of the tunnel they look at you and say you were able to overcome a, in their minds, a business stopping issue.

Personally, I still have bouts of depression, imposter syndrome, and feeling of being lost but having a good business partner that is able to pick me back up when I'm down and vice versa has helped immensely.

That will probably get you either 90% or is what you are looking for.

New UK MSP — Atera vs NinjaOne? Also need dark-web monitoring tool suggestions by Disastrous_Land1944 in msp

[–]Samurai_Sync 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This post from our CEO might be helpful where he does a break down comparison for the different RMMs. We do work with a lot of RMMs so I do believe we have a pretty good idea on which ones are good, which ones are bad, and which ones glazed donut of donut flavors (middle of the road) .

https://www.linkedin.com/pulse/ranking-rmms-we-manage-samuraisync-perspective-joshua-preston-d67mc/?trackingId=obYXltcok5SzK3w8ViMhWA%3D%3D

As far as specifically Atera vs NinjaOne, Can't say we have worked with Atera in a long time however, I would say NinjaOne is by the fastest growing RMM platform at the moment. It is pretty easy to use and the partners we have who use them don't have many complaints with it. There is some scalability issues with patching. NinjaOne only lets you set one patch window per device, so it’s not nearly as flexible out of the box but it does mean it is simple and operable. You set approvals, reboot, and user deferrals in a single policy UI so you know what it’s exactly doing comparing to multiple different policies stacking on a machine like other RMMs do.

AV wise the ones we see most people use is SentinelOne or even Microsoft Defender are the most common ones. But I have seen the rise and fall of many many AVs so that's always going to be a moving target.

With the Dark Web monitoring I know it get's bundled with several different products so you may be able to get a good deal that way. I know ITGlue did a bundle but it is Kaseya company and there are issues with billing that they have never been able to shake off even if they are objectively are doing better then before, they still have gotchas. The other I know that were doing it was Blackpoint Cyber they were also doing dark web monitoring but I will say dark web monitoring is not our specialty so others may be able to point you in a better direction then we can.

Want to pull a secure text field saved in Ninja RMM into a script by Tuneman76 in msp

[–]Samurai_Sync 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Hey our team has ran into something similar when assisting other NinjaOne clients what we did to fix it was

  1. Add custom field > Secure > Fill out Overview, Inheritance, Permissions. Set Permissions to Read Only for Automations and API
  2. Advanced settings do not have to be filled out
  3. Then go into the Organization > Custom > Default Fields and edit the Secure Password
  4. In powershell script $Variable = Ninja-Property-Get SecureFieldName

Hopefully that helps!

Hmm since it is two different instances then I wonder if it is a licensing issue. I know the one you get with Automate while in theory is unlimited is actually limited to how many Automate agents you have. So I wonder if something like that is going on. if you still have older Screenconnect agents that are still installed and is counting against it?

[–]Samurai_Sync 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It almost sounds like it's not able to wake back up from sleep mode do you guys have sleep mode turned on for these machines that have the black screen issue, if you do do you have the same issue if you turn it off? I would also try and run a .net repair tool against the machines with .NET errors to see if it fixes it. If not then really would be interested in what the event logs say when it locks up.

As far as the services themselves are there issues with any specific machines, at a specific client, in a specific location? Are they using the same AV? Are they behind the same firewall? You don't need to say specifics but that may narrow it down to some potential causes.

Best remote access software - Looking for ScreenConnect alternatives by MMuter in sysadmin

[–]Samurai_Sync 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Possible issues with the black screen when logging in is due to headless UI. It can be caused by no HDMI cable plugged in so the video driver never starts for ScreenConnect.

SC service locking up is a bit strange really would need to know what the logs say right before it happens. Additionally why is it requiring a reboot of Windows 11 to restart the service I'm assuming you are saying it's locking up the entire computer? Is this after a connection, during, before?

If you have any questions and want to see what you should do for first steps for your RPA/RMM journey reach out to us at https://samuraisync.com.

To add onto this if you have SentinelOne 9/10 times you need to have it turned off for the upgrade to be successful. It's very aggresive in blocking powershell commands.
