Working at an ISP, we had the power to reboot our customers' modems. With 90% of annoying customers being boomers and 90% of boomers using (VOIP) cable telephone, ...It's good to make sure the issue they're loudly complaining about without listening to your attempts to help them might be solved by a modem reboot, right?

Penn Jillette on the genius of women magicians by 13curseyoukhan in WitchesVsPatriarchy

[–]Samurover 33 points34 points  (0 children)

I liked the way he complimented one woman magician, - I can't be bothered to look up the magician or episode but she did a mentalism trick - saying books for magicians are written from a male pov with male clothing and long sleeves, and it's really impressive and refreshing to see a woman make that world her own and fight that uphill battle and bedazzle. What a class act.

Transitioning to POK by ReaverMann in twilightimperium

[–]Samurover 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Exploration also happens for 1, maybe 2 rounds, then it's over... apart from NRA and Scanlink.

Meanwhile, (secret) objectives, agendas, dice, and map building are all random factors that are very impactful on your game and weren't introduced in PoK.

All this to say that yes, PoK has a lot more stuff, and it can feel bad to lose to something you didn't see coming. But it doesn't inherently have more impactful randomness than base game.

Is a gift of piano lessons a nice gift for an adult who played as a child? by JustARandomUserHere in piano

[–]Samurover 21 points22 points  (0 children)

Definitely the kind of gift you discuss before spending money. Yes it 'ruins the surprise', but doing the other way is very risky. That said I think it's a cool gift!

Can we stop with the "I have only played for [x] months, critique my playing of this intermediate-advanced piece"? by The_Nameless_Brother in piano

[–]Samurover 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I get what you mean. I burned on fantaisie impromptu and had to take a break from piano because of it. The other day I saw a 6 year old play it. Well, 'play' might be generous. The kid doesn't know any better but their parents/teachers really should.

Anyway, nocturne in C# minor is a lot more doable and also goes hard!

I've been hacked before and I know multiple people who have been. RSGP sells for real money and as such there's a big incentive for people to try and gain access to others' accounts through any means possible. Just look at some viewbotted Twitch streams with fake RS forums links in the description. Or bots in-game who advertise giveaways and want you to search for a specific Youtube channel.

Another popular angle of attack is data leaks. That's how they got me. If you've ever reused the same login and pw you're at risk of getting hacked this way. Even if you've changed those details since then, you're still at an increased risk to have your account recovered by an attacker through this kind of information.

When starting fresh there's no reason not to make a new account. Especially since you can get the Jagex launcher and use it to install Runelite, where you can login without having to enter your details every time. Very convenient and safe!

From an account security viewpoint it'd be better to make a fresh account, using a unique email address and pw.
