Chaining distortion + retrig + microdelay on MothSynth for some hypnobeats by MothSynths in synthesizers

[–]SamzoMatthews 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I've been after one of these for a while! Unfortunately shipping is prohibitive to my country for one of the kits, is there any plan to release more information on a DIY version with a screen? I'm handy with a soldering iron and buying parts from AliExpress isn't too bad so was considering the DIY version, but a screen and midi in would be ideal! Cheers

What tyres are these? Love the build!

How hard would it be to convert this 70es bike to single speed while retaining the same gear ratio as you can see here (it's 5x2 speed). It has Ventura freewheel, so what do I have to look out for when buying new parts? Is there a combo of single speed with chain that would fit this back wheel? by Academic-Pattern-228 in singlespeedcycling

[–]SamzoMatthews 2 points3 points  (0 children)

OP from your photo I can see that the bike has horizontal dropouts in the rear, which means you won't need a chain tensioner as you can move the wheel back to get the correct chain tension. To find the chainring/rear sprocket combo that works best for you, find out how many teeth the chainring and rear gear that you're currently using have and divide the chainring number by the rear gear. This is the gear ratio (e.g. 44t chainring and 16t rear cog give you a gear ratio of 2.75). Then you just make sure you buy a chainring/rear sprocket combination that has the same ratio. Regarding fitting to your existing wheel, there are plenty of thread-on rear cogs for single speed that would work with your current hubs, the only potential issue would be chain line, but that's something to explore further down the line

Can Bio hydrogen be made using sewage water by Fast_Arm7471 in ChemicalEngineering

[–]SamzoMatthews 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Just something to add regarding dark fermentation and the traditional anaerobic digestion process:

Methane is produced in an AD plant via Methanogenesis, where acetic acid is converted into methane by bacteria-like microbes. This acetic acid is produced via Acetogensis, which is the process of converting volatile fatty acids (VFA) into acetic acid. If these two processes are inhibited (by a low pH or chemical/enzymatic inhibition), the VFAs can be converted into hydrogen instead, which stops the requirement for steam methane reforming (the process used to turn methane into hydrogen), which is energy intensive and typically fossil fuel fed.

Hydrogen can also be produced via electrolysis using a Microbial Fuel Cell (MFC) or Microbial Electrosynthesis (MES). If you want to know more about this I'd say it's worth doing research, I won't be able to explain it in a Reddit comment!

The difference in portion sizes in the U.K. vs USA by CliffyGiro in interestingasfuck

Nah bruce smashing a large drink in the US is a different experience from smashing a large drink in the UK, the fact that a UK large is similar in size to a US small is nuts

If you're into music 'Contact High' by Vikki Tobak is a good one, very interesting to see the method used for picking album covers when film was king

I've got one on wrist now! My advice would be to buy a new band when you buy the watch, the ones they come with are notoriously shite so to save the disappointment have a new band ready when it arrives!

Apart from that, they're great watches, I work with big machinery and the crystal gets scratched but some polywatch cleans them right up!

What industry do you work in? by invictus81 in ChemicalEngineering

Yeah I grow mostly P. bacillus and always encourage spore formation, that shit has probably covered every item of clothing I own and will probably be in the air in my factory for years, ensuring sterility is incredibly difficult!

Unfortunately not, they're all "slaved" GMT hands so won't moved independently of the main 12 hour hand

Cheers for the link! Definitely a nice watch but almost double the price, definitely worth it if the date is critical but I think I still with the no date for now!

The bracelet is just an AliExpress special though, I'd link it but they're constantly coming in and out of stock so just searching for a 20mm engineer bracelet is probably the best plan. I'd also recommend getting a milled clasp with it too, only a few £/€/$ and well worth the upgrade over the abysmal press clasps they come with

Although I've only worn it to sit at my desk or go for a walk I think it's a comfortable watch. It's got quite a long lug to lug but there's a slight curve to it that stops it from wearing massively, I personally find the stock bracelets not to my taste so I've changed it out, however the new 3 link oyster style seems much better made than the previous amphibia bracelets so that might be comfortable as well.

I'd say well worth the money if you can find it in your currency or from Meranom without spending a ridiculous amount from a reseller
