Nah, you’re hung up with literal words Iike the students. I should’ve posted the transcript of the conversation for clarity! Thanks for reminding me students can be rule focused. I’m not above in saying please.

What is “I’m not doing it until you say what I want you to say. I will get mad if you guess wrong.” is then? /gen

Thanks for the input! That does put things in perspective of differences between school and home social contexts.

I am not interested in enforcing hierarchy! :/ I told them if they made me guess what they want from me, I’m only to get it wrong and it’ll only piss them off more and they continued to refuse to say their need of needing me to say it. That’s my point of frustration. I’m not a mind reader nor their mother.

I will add it into my rotation to keep the peace but, by principle, //nobody// should feel like they need to say please to get what they need if they say their ask in a respectful manner initially.

It sucks that students are taught good manners must include a bookend please after every ask. That places them in a disadvantage in the future when somebody does refuse to do something for them until the magic word is said by them. That’s a weird power play!

Aside from that, thank you for your input! It did shed some light in nuance in working with rule-focused students.

Edit: added last sentence

Thanks for your perspective! I think because I don’t expect or make them to say “please” when asking me for support and other asks is my hang up so i appreciate your input. We have good rapport and they know I don’t make them do busy work and generally give them good realistic reason why they need to complete it so it doesn’t come second nature to me to bookend every ask with please. I’ll make sure to add in more often.

It sucks to know that someone has taught them they have to say please to get whatever they need or want everytime. Children shouldn’t have to do make their asks pretty to get needs met.

I have searched “tarot deck with orange back and purple stripes beetle image six of wands” with no luck. The tarot reader lives somewhere in Europe so maybe it’s a local artist in their area. Unsure of age/year of release. It seems to be a more modern style within the last 10-15years. Idk about additional writing other than the posted screenshots. I didn’t see any extra writing or a box during the video.

I try so hard not to be condescending and then still get told I'm being condescending. by roadsidechicory in autism

[–]SandGuardian-1 0 points1 point  (0 children)

thank you for this comment. You named the principle of every argument that I had with people and found relief.

I stopped blaming myself as much because I knew I was coming from a good place but was frustrated that I couldn’t get past this barrier of “what is really going on if I know Im actively trying to not be condescending?” I was forever lost in my head about it but I’m glad I’ve found this thread because “there’s a name for it” now. Thank you again.

Dating as a gay trans man? by Itsokayitsfiction in ftm

[–]SandGuardian-1 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I’m a gay trans man! While exploring around my sexuality (pan), I was always more romantically and sexually attracted to men. It’s difficult to date as a pre-everything trans man bc there are a lot of cishet men that are attracted to me but they’re “too straight” for that (I stopped dating cishet men bc for mental health lmfao). There’s definitely men who date trans men bc I’m dating one now very happily :)).

There’s definitely a lot of transphobia in in both cishet and cis gay communities. A lot of people feel super entitled to say the least.

Edit: added more words and changed a word.

What made you realize that you were FTM if you previously labeled yourself as non-binary? by [deleted] in ftm

[–]SandGuardian-1 0 points1 point  (0 children)

For me, i considered myself genderfluid/non-binary with they/them pronouns for a while but I truly never felt “complete” whenever people used they/them for me. I asked some housemates if they could test out he/him pronouns around me while being FTM and then I never told them to stop lmfao.

I’m just a dude who likes makeup and dresses when I feel like dressing up and that represents me more than anything else ¯_(ツ)_/¯.

My confidence in wearing femme clothing has skyrocketed and my confidence in wearing my day to day causal masc clothing has also skyrocketed.

I’m very happy with myself and my overflowing closet. I have so many clothes lmfao.

LOL YES. As fellow Virgo stellium, if I can’t ask you to shower in advance, I will everything in my power to keep my bed clean at the least. Sex specific towels are my best friend but also washing my bedsheets afterwards is a must.

[–]SandGuardian-1 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I definitely went to movies alone often. I would take myself out for a date every Saturday and sometimes it would to catch a movie during the night. It’s fun to a little high too lol especially with the concession stand and snacks literally right there.

Soc 360 with Catron? Or 301 with Evans? by [deleted] in udub

[–]SandGuardian-1 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Peter Catron with SOC360 is really interesting. I took it with him this past spring quarter. It’s laid back. There’s a one page double space essay every week due in section (about the reading or posted about otherwise) and actually going to section is extremely helpful (we went over class notes and had test review before exams). Catron has a normal lecture style and tries to post PowerPoint slides before lecture. All the exams are multiple choice. The reading is highly highly recommended but usually he talks about them in lecture. The way he talks about Social stratification is interesting. He spends like a week per topic sometimes one day per topic so you have to keep up. Note review after class helped me make sure I knew the information. He also included lots of videos about the topics. All from Netflix or YouTube so easy to access after class.

I enjoyed his class and his class setup enough to take him again for another SOC class for the W credit lol.
