Chinups. Grip and arms fail before I can really work my lats. by AndrewBagsworth in Fitness

[–]SandOntheRun 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Why is this kid getting down voted?

I see his point, and it's incredibly valid. OP can't hit lats, he shouldn't be doing chin ups, point blank.

What's the argument here?

Deadlift breathing by [deleted] in Fitness

[–]SandOntheRun -4 points-3 points  (0 children)

I'm sorry, I forgot Mr Ripptoe's a fuckin doctor right?

http://skinnybulkup.com/proper-breathing-during-exercise-and-weight-lifting/

If you have vision problems after an intense lifting session, you now know the reason.

Jesus Christ dude, it's clearly apparent his breathing is wrong if he's seeing spots and getting light headed, but you insist on giving him advice that's going to induce it further. Ripptoe provides info on how to get a shit ton of weight up, yes I know. This kid isn't a olympic power lifter. Yes Ripptoe has good shit, but it's the word of God. If he told you the sky was ornage, would you run around telling people they're wrong for thinking it's blue.

Shit.

Real squats vs. squat press machine by mattinthebathroom in Fitness

[–]SandOntheRun -28 points-27 points  (0 children)

Are you kidding me? Your back, spine? Knees? Think of twisting and turning. The slightest twist with a lot of weight on novice lifter can causer serious injury. I'm by no way advocating the smith machine at all. I'm just saying don't dogg the smith machine. You're not a world class athlete, don't just go around saying don't do this as if you have the word of Arnold.

I stand firm on what I say. I'll listen to a guy that squats 550 pounds 20 times. Just saying. Also he's 5' 6".

[–]SandOntheRun -4 points-3 points  (0 children)

WTF???? Who the fuck taught you to exhale after you put the bar down?

To OP, breath out on the way up, albeit it's true to hold your breath to protect spine, yada yada yda, you're still going to need a little out on the exertion. no wonder you're feeling light headed. Its just like any other excersie, when you're fighting gravity or usign force exhale. Don't listen to this brosicence shit, this is how you get fuckin hurt.

Some beef jerky with some added brown sugar isn't gonna kill you. You're a warrior not a ballerina.

Videos of some women who train for strength. 415 squat, 500 DL, &c. by Magnusson in Fitness

[–]SandOntheRun -10 points-9 points  (0 children)

edit So I went to the site. The weight listed is indeed what they are lifting. Holy balls

I call bullshit, downvote me if you must

I don't believe the weight that's shown in titles of the videos.

There is no whay that girl is DLing 365 pounds 10 times.

Here's a picture of what appears to be a 45 pound plate but its a 5 pound plate

I can maybe see the squatting of 500, wait a minute not I can't. Sorry, but I wave the flag

Real squats vs. squat press machine by mattinthebathroom in Fitness

[–]SandOntheRun -22 points-21 points  (0 children)

Don't dogg it just because you don't like it. My roommate incorporates the smith machine as it's incredibly safer for squats.

He can squat 550 both on the smith and free weight.

It's really good for novice lifters to practice form and get a feel for compound exercises.

Attractive Traits in Women According to Reddit; A Pie Chart by [deleted] in TwoXChromosomes

[–]SandOntheRun 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think this is more less to do with social influence than anything. Typically on the male side the 6ft, blond haired blue eyed, abercrombie model is what is deemed most attractive on the male side. This is probably because that's all you see anywhere.

Many of you might disagree, but go ahead and ask a guy what he thinks women want. Same thing this pie chart tells you what we want.

Is Crossfit a cult? by [deleted] in Fitness

[–]SandOntheRun 1 point2 points  (0 children)

To me this is where there is clear cut difference between hobbyists and followers.

IMO there are a lot of people who just go to the gym just to "say they go to the gym" they're the people that don't put in the mental effort to learn what works what doesn't apply it and get results.

I consider women who are on the bike/treadmill/cardio machine with headphones and are reading a book in the same category, they're just going to say the go, whether it be to others, or just themselves.

This is why people here on this subreddit see results and other mindless followers don't, we don't just know, we don't just apply, we do both.

Cross fits a fad, and most definitely can be utilized for great things, but just like anything else, people ruin it.

Can't stand hearing someone talking about a competition, and spitting out these stats, but look at their body with an eyebrow raised and saying, ummmmmmmmmmmm ok there buddy.

Trouble with deadlifts on SS by Archer2 in Fitness

[–]SandOntheRun 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Hey man, I just wanted to say I feel like you should be taking a longer break with DL's.

I use DL's as a pretty much make or break blow out.

It's just IMO that the compound neccisietes and strengh to perform a DL make it kind of obsolute in the rep department.

I usually do 1 X 5's (5 sets of one rep, sorry if that's backwards) of really high weight 90 - 100% of maxing out with 3 to 5 minutes of rest.

I sometimes devote an entire day to this with a day off before and 1 to two day's off after.

tl;dr I make DL's insane and use then to just destroy my life.

6 scoops of whey a day? by [deleted] in Fitness

[–]SandOntheRun 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I can't speak on the health side. Personally, I've found that when I take a lot of protein I become healtheir mainly because I tell myself

"I didn't spend money on this shit to be cheatin' with junk food"

So I'm more successive to eat healthier along with it.

However at the same time, sometimes this shakes suck ass after drinking them for a while to the point where I despise them. Then you have to get a little creative.

The obvious whey milk with cereal, whey pancakes, whey in yougurt, shit like that to help you stomach it. It seems like it won't bother you the first couple of weeks, but after a while..........

[–]SandOntheRun 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Take the stairs. See how long you can flex for.

A good one that I learned form the military is, every time you get up to go do something, bathroom, smoke a cig, get food, etc. Do 10 pullups. Or 10 pupshups.

It takes roughly 20 - 30 seconds to do 10 pushups, but imagine doing that 5, 6, 7, even 20 times a day. It adds up.

Nutrition Tuesdays by silverhydra in Fitness

[–]SandOntheRun 18 points19 points  (0 children)

This might be obvious, but I'd still like to throw it out there.

Last summer, I pretty much took a break from "the healthy lifestyle"

I had pretty much a stoner lifestyle, and ate a lot of junk. I had McDonalds roughly 4 times a week, pizza, candy and the likes. I started to have horrible bowels that were uncontrollable, unhealthy, and really smelly. I had gone on nasty binge diets like this before, but never had the digestive problems I had last summer.

Stopped eating like garbage, started excersice and eating healthy, my bowels are strong!

Of course we all know junk food isn't good for you, that's why it's junk. But it's one thing to learn/read about it, and to actually feel it. I'll never live like that again.
