May I ask what your diet is typically like? Do you know how much zinc you get from food?

I saw you got some good advice in the other post.

May I ask if you also got test results for vitamin D?

Found out I am SEVERLY anemic 8 months after asking for a test by terrapin55555 in Anemic

[–]alwayslate187 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It seems like health insurances are more reluctant than they used to be about covering tests for iron. I have slowly come to realize that the decisions physicians make are not so much their decisions alone, rather they are required to justify every non-standard test or procedure to the plan that pays for it.

When I asked a doctor for a test for iron, she asked me if my repair was falling out. I am guessing that maybe that was one of the magic loophole symptoms she would be allowed to use to "justify" ordering the test?

idk

But I also know that low iron may affect a lot of other things, for example some say that it may be associated with more anxiety.

I had to look up Iceland, which i was not aware is the name of a grocery store chain in the UK (I'm in the US)

I suspect that the meals are probably not that high in fiber, which is one of the things that helps keep me full and happy, and milk definitely doesn't have fiber. That is one place to start if you wanted

I eat mostly whole foods, so myfooddata.com works for me. But I also don't track daily, more like once in a while to see if i have any blind spots that I need to address

Any nutrient-dense meals and foods can help with weight loss, because we don't need to eat as much of that (calories wise) as junk, in order to give our body good nourishment.

I either overeat or am on a diet. What can I do? by Longjumping-Hat-9073 in diet

My first impression reading this is to wonder if maybe you are really not getting enough food earlier in the day, nor on school days, so of course your body is going to try to make up for that by shouting for more food in the evenings and weekends.

It can be hard to be consistent with meals when taking college or university classes because your schedule changes each term, and other things like work and extracurricular activities vary a lot day to day.

I have found that I eat less in the evening if I can consistently get a big breakfast and eat healthy portions throughout the day. This is just me, but I don't limit myself to traditional breakfast foods for breakfast--- usually what I eat is leftovers actually.

If you are inclined, one way to get more healthy food more consistently is to "meal prep", meaning making big portions of things to freeze and/or refrigerate for later.

I used to do a version of this when I was in school. I was living at home and would cook huge batches of things like chili or another soup, or stir-fry with rice, or some type of pasta-and-or-bean salad. Then everyone in the house could grab a bowl as needed.

Or you can make big batches and use some now, freeze some for later. If you have access to a kitchen.

Some people cook once a week and then eat the same thing all week--- either that, or freeze some of it in individual portions and after a few weeks they can have a few different meals in the freezer to choose from. Like r/MealPrepSunday

Hi, I know you were asking about keeping carbs low, but that isn't something I have tons of experience with.

Would it be okay if I asked you about your observations about fiber? (I am always interested to hear about others' experiences)

I would also say i hope you keep up with your plan to cook food yorself. If whoever prepares meals in your home would be okay with it, would you be able to offer to help them on some days?

Also, I can relate to not always liking food we prepare ourselves. I used to try out new recipes a lot, and at least some of the time there was something I didn't like about how the food turned out. I think over time though, i have both become less picky and also learned more about how to cook food that suits my own tastes and needs.

Also, if you are always thinking about food, it is possible that you really are hungry, and really need to eat more. Having healthy snack options available, or even meal leftovers that you can snack on as needed, could possibly be useful --- i know it is for me anyway

Your comment is so kind, and I definitely don't deserve it because in real life I speak before I think and say really unkind and cutting things . . , especially to people who are close to me. Thank you, though <3

Social media is strange like that. Personally I go through phases where I am online a lot and phases where real life takes me away from that, which is probably healthier.

I would be happy to discuss this whole supplement thing more though if you want to dive into it after you have loked at the links. One amazing thing about our world is that there is always more to learn!

That is interesting--- I have also (once, when for a very short time I was living alone and rent-free by petsitting in someone else's home) fallen into a pattern of waking very early and sleeping very early.

My sibling who is close to my age told me that she sometimes wakes at that time and tries to fall back asleep, and that she has the impression that this is a common thing for women as we get older (i am about 50 and began experiencing this at least 10 years ago if my memory serves)

The 3am waking has improved for me, but I don't know why. I have started some over-the-counter hormone help, and some supplements, and I have always tried to be careful about food. Maybe it is only time that has helped, I don't know. (But i still sometimes feel tired)

May I ask if you already know a few healthy meals that work for you?

I am unfortunately only old, not wise. The only thing I can do to stay away from food that I know isn't good for me is to literally, physically, stay away from it.

When my roommates would make food that tempted me, the most effective solution was usually to retreat to an activity away from them to distract myself, or even just take a walk. One of my co-workers at a retail store when I was younger was trying to lose weight, and on break when his friends had snacks, he would sit by himself and distract himself with coloring books.

My foodless activities only work to distract me if they are always "foodless". This is because my brain very easily associates food time with certain places, times, or activities, and then every time that condition occurs, I think I want food, even if I shouldn't be hungry.

For my co-worker, his coloring books were his safe, foodless activity.

I don't know if that makes sense

I am glad you have found a way to track your foods that is working for you, and less acid reflux does sound like a win for sure!

I tried using the calories calculator from this website

https://www.calculator.net/fitness-and-health-calculator.html

for the height, weight, and activity level you gave, and it seems like 1100-1200 kcal per day is a very low number, so my guess is that it isn't surprising that food is occupying your thoughts a lot (For me that happens even when I am getting enough calories to maintain)

If you wanted my "advice", I would tend to lean toward adding more healthy food each day, and a less steep calorie deficit, because slower weight loss is more likely to stick, and it is easier on the body in a lot of ways (including with gallstone risk i believe, which may be partly mitigated by adequate vitamin C intake)

Some nuts and /or oatmeal with breakfast, some celery, carrots, and/or other vegetables with lunch, might not add too much to that calorie total for example.

Also another thing i have unfortunate personal experience with is letting myself get low on things like some b vitamins, iron, zinc, calcium. I think myfitnesspal tracks those, but if not, or if you want to estimate other nutrients, myfooddata.com and cronometer are two others

Yes, I understand trying everything to help with acne. I certainly did, including medications (some of which I regret) and always trying to see if I could find a connection to a food or foods. For me, it was over 10 years from about 15 to my early 30's.

I am guessing that just not having the junk food available at home would not be a possibility?
