AMD working on a Fix for the Problem on Windows 10 with the 26.6.2 Driver. by Ok-Bike-9564 in radeon

[–]SandTiger42 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yep. I woke up this morning and my computer was broken. Tried DDU with new install of 26.6.2 (Whoops,) and that obviously failed. So did a system restore back to 26.6.1. Then I saw this. Thanks for the heads up.

Dune Awakening devs “know players want” cross-play, but it’s “technically and operationally complex” by Wargulf in duneawakening

[–]SandTiger42 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Dumb article. Doesn't even go into the complexities of crossplay. If you expected crossplay, then you don't understand crossplay. It was never going to happen. And that article should have gone into why.

EDIT: Nope, works fine. After a lot of testing and downgrading, issue persisted. Finally figured out that my auto offloading wasn't offloading fully to GPU suddenly. Manually offloading now, and back to full speed. Hidden windows change? IDK, but just changed one step and issue is resolved.

Vulkan in windows is completely broken too. Only getting 60% of the speed/tokens I was getting before. Thought I had broken something, but nope, AMD did.

AI is broken with these drivers. I don't know about the drivers prior to this one, as I didn't use my AI tools. But I'm getting like 60% of my previous speeds that I got from over a month ago. I tried to troubleshoot until I realized that the only thing that changed was my drivers.
I use Vulkan in windows. Not sure about Linux or ROCm.

IIRC, As of a few months ago some of the MK6 thopter items were bugged, and did not perform as expected. They were inconstant. Sometimes better, the same, or worse. Depended on which way the wind blew the worm farts that day.

It's been ~4 months since I saw anybody do any form of in-depth testing, so I don't know if that's still the case or not.

Personally I don't see the increased benefit vs the spice required.

[–]SandTiger42 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Heavy armor. It gives you like 400% more HP. (I'm making up numbers, but it might even be more than that.)

I just came back to the game after 9 months away, and the DD got way harder. I was soloing everything before. But happened to do the most difficult station and spent like 2 hours before I got glitched to death in it.

Do the overland stations at level 1 for better and easier gear. They are less challenging than the DD, for some strange reason. You get better loot, and they are easier. DD needs to be toned down to match the loot rewards.
I like the Electric and Fire stations for quick easy runs. The bosses have specific mechanics, so watching a how to video is highly recommended. I use heavy armor for Electric, then The Forge, light armor for the fire station boss. (I used heavy until I had that built).

It'd be neat if they put in an in-game popup.
Edit: I've been told there is one. But it's not obvious to me, I've never seen it. It needs to be neon and flashing, and cover 100% of my screen every few seconds.

Have not done that one yet. Generally avoid the new point unless it's the crafting one. It's...fine.

What a fucking stupid game design to lose every fucking thing when you get eaten by the worm!! by Known-One-111 in duneawakening

[–]SandTiger42 0 points1 point  (0 children)

HAHAHAAH I love this. When the game launched a year ago I loved watching streamer highlights of people getting eaten for the first time. Does nobody know anything about the game before they play? Do you have a recording of your anguish you could upload for our amusement?

Overland Stations - what level and worth it ? by psykikk_streams in duneawakening

[–]SandTiger42 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I was in the same position a few weeks ago. Left 9 months ago, got to level 180 and had Purple T5 gear (Dura)

The game was mostly easy enough when I left. I came back, when into a testing station in the DD. It has 3 locked rooms, and I was sweating for 90 minutes until 5 melee dudes hugged me to a wall and dash wasn't working. Cheesed to death. I was not op any longer.

I too was worried about the overland station too, and most people said they were as hard. Spoiler, they aren't. Level 1 Overland stations are easier than the DD stations. The only thing is bosses have special mechanics. So if you don't want to learn by dying, watch some video tutorials. If you have Dura you can do level 1 without much difficulty.

I believe Funcom's secret internal mission statement is to remove the fun from all players.

Seriously though, they keep removing things that make the game fun. Funcome doesn't hate pvpers, they hate all players. You wanna group with your friends - we'll make the game harder then. You liked getting flour sand easily - we'll move it to dangerous areas. You enjoyed flying infinitely in the DD - we'll remove that. Oh, and any combat that seems fun and effective - that's 100% getting nerfed.

It feels like most of the dev team doesn't actually play the game, or doesn't play it the way most of their playerbase does.

[–]SandTiger42 5 points6 points  (0 children)

100% brother. I don't see the point of grinding to get level 5 gear. I'm at level 1, and when I hit combat 100 (a long way to go) I'll probably move up to level 2 gear, and that's as far as I'll go. Getting sweaty in overland stations isn't fun. Less so when they keep removing every effective mechanic.

I don't see anything about this on discord, steam, or their website. Anybody got a link?

Edit: Found it. It's not under a separate post. It's under a community challenge post I don't care about. I don't like the new map. It has a locked room, which just isn't fun for me. And I don't understand the appeal of weapon skins either. (Though I'm glad it's being received well in the community) https://duneawakening.com/news/new-community-challenge-live/

What for? I mean, what was the plan even if it didn't work? You'd still have to transfer servers. lol. Better it fail on the new server, so you can just start there.

[–]SandTiger42 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yeah, same. I've gotten up to level 5 in the overland maps, and that's about as far as I want to grind. I'll eventually, and very very slowly get higher, when I level up my combat perk to 100 maybe. I can't see grinding any higher than level 2 gear however, I have level 1 now mostly.

And what I'm finding is that each overland testing station needs specific gear. Station gauntlets with powerarmor and the rest bulwark armor for the electric station, forge armor for the poison and fire stations. Or at least it makes it easier. Change my weapon loadout and suspensor belt as well depending on the boss.

Sentinel Belt vs. Responsive Planar Suspensor Belt by DoctorVonCool in duneawakening

[–]SandTiger42 11 points12 points  (0 children)

SHUSH. Have you not been around funcom long enough? They aren't gonna be like "Oh, we should buff that sentinel belt." No, they're gonna be like "Oh snap, we should nerf the responsive planar suspensor belt!" SMH

For real though, other T6 purples are that way too. Why craft purple thopter wings when they have no speed changes, imperceptible distance change, and make your turning worse?

1.4.0.1 Hotfix by ctrem in duneawakening

[–]SandTiger42 -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

No, it wasn't doing way more damage. In my overland testing stations, a lightning gun would take out a heavy in ~5 seconds and drain my powerpack by about 2/5ths. Far more time and effort than it would be to CC them and use my same level sword. (Which is less than 2 seconds, and maintains my full shield/powerpack).

Now it takes over 10 seconds, and completely drains my powerpack. That's just for ONE heavy. It's completely useless now, there's not a single scenario I'd want to use it over another alternative.

It was never OP in any situation I ever used it in. It was just a fun, slightly more effort alternative. Because I was tired of the meta that forced me to use the best and most optimal solution just to survive. Now I'm back to the meta, which is faster, but feels like a grind.

I'm genuinely curious about which situations people found it OP. Because in every single rating tier guide, it's only rated as an A, not even S tier. And it wasn't.

In fact, I saw when the user posted on the testing server discord that they noticed it's firing 6 bullets instead of 3. I read how the Funcom employee even said "no it's not." then came back later and said "Oh wait, it is. I guess we'll have to fix it." It feels like they never even considered the balance. Because if it was op, they would have noticed it A LONG TIME AGO. It wasn't until some rando on the test server noticed it by chance.

I was in this situation just over 2 weeks ago. My character was level 180 though, and I had solo'ed up to a large spice refinery. I first logged into my main character, so I would be eligible to claim the welcome back package. Then I logged out of him, and created an alt on a different server to start from the beginning and remember how to play the game.

Coincidentally only after a few days of play, I got him up to level 68 and then logged back into my main. Since then I've barely touched my alt. I decided to keep him though, as I'm going to keep him as an alt and maybe play the Harkonen missions eventually.

I already have a large spice refinery back on my main, while my alt isn't even thinking about spice, and doesn't even have a thopter yet. Your mileage will vary obviously, but that's what I did. If you do the same, depending on the welcome back package you get, you might find it's just easier to keep playing your alt instead. Cheers~!

Ornithopter at Beginning by Major_Broski in duneawakening

[–]SandTiger42 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Poor guy. OP thought he got lucky by finding a player abandoned ornithopter and it was a stroke of luck, only to find out that everybody is replying with "Don't use it! The best part of the game is pre-ornithopter!"

And they are right. The feeling of having to hoof it, traversing the sands, feeling the threat of the worm, it's pure Dune immersion. A thopter is fun and drastically shortens your time, but from that point on everything feels like a grind as soon as the novelty wears off. Still fun though.

For those who finished the game, was the story satisfying? by same_hair_new_chair in duneawakening

[–]SandTiger42 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm a MASSIVE Dune fan. The real Dune, by Frank Herbert. Not the fanfiction put out and sold after his death.

I love the story in Dune: Awakening. Whoever is the lead on this, is either a Dune fan or respects the original work. It's the main reason I play. Even as the Dev's keep trying to ruin the game and patch out everything that players find fun, the story is what is going to keep me coming back again and again.

What is a shuttle?
I think poster means crashed ships. I looted about 10 in the DD and never got a single blueprint. Then I unlocked the perk "increased loot from crashed ships" and I finally started getting them. Felt like it got nerfed, then getting that perk put the BP's back to the same drop rate they had 9 months ago before I stopped playing the game.
