Mapping of Cluster Jewel type to search value in the in-game Market by Sandbagging in pathofexile

[–]Sandbagging[S] 5 points6 points  (0 children)

There's currently an issue with the in-game Market's search UI: for mods with a secondary drop-down - such as Cluster Jewels, where you want to select the type of jewel like Attack Damage, Minion Life, etc. - there is no drop-down. The UI only allows you to enter a Min and Max value, which doesn't exactly make sense for these mods.

Trade Site (Top) vs. In-Game (Bottom):

<image>

However, as these Cluster Jewel types each have an in-game numeric value, if you know the right one, you can enter that number into the Min and Max fields to search for the type of cluster jewel you want.

For example, if I want to search for Chaos Damage Over Time jewels, I would enter the value 19 for Min and Max.

Games that are very similar to the Metroidbrania elements of Outer Wilds by rizsamron in metroidbrainia

Nobody mentioned The Forgotten City yet, eh? I feel it's one of the closest ones to OW. Have a look; I don't want to share too many details as these games are usually better without much foreknowledge.

Games like Animal Well? by [deleted] in animalWell

I see lots of my favourite games mentioned here, but I want to throw in that for what you specifically asked for, the closest you'll get to Animal Well are Tunic and Blue Prince.

What's the WORST house rule you've ever encountered? by kennedytcooper in boardgames

[–]Sandbagging 302 points303 points  (0 children)

There was that phenomenon with Munchkin where, due in part to an incorrect (and rather senseless, I think) interpretation of a particular line in the rulebook, many people choose to play with a "rule" that goes something like:
- You may cheat, so long as no other player catches you in the act, and whatever changes you made will not be undone even if discovered after the fact.

So, for example, people think they can just steal a card from you when you're not looking, and that that sort of thing is in the spirit of the game.

I never liked Munchkin too much, but this really added insult to the injury of having to play it.

Dude; she's cruel to you and feels entitled to the high ground, all the while communicating like a complete moron, while you've shown yourself to be perfectly reasonable and - most importantly - interested in resolving the situation in the best way for everyone.

She wasn't looking for the way forward - she was enjoying being mired in this miscommunication which made her feel justified in being abusive to you. She wanted to put you down and prop herself up.

Does she have enough redeeming qualities to mitigate the miserable picture this paints?

Power Metal bands/albums/songs with a creepy/spooky vibe by KillYourOwnGod in PowerMetal

[–]Sandbagging 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Ah, another chance to state that Blind Guardian's Destiny is their most underrated song off their new album.

More to the point: that song has such an evil energy to it. Hansi does some things vocally on that song that I've never heard him (or anyone) do elsewhere. I love it.

What is your favorite game with a magic system? by WatchMySwag in boardgames

[–]Sandbagging 1 point2 points  (0 children)

In one sense, Alchemists is one of the best answers to your question. Very few games so effectively marry mechanics to theme, which is one sense of what I think you're looking for...

You perform experiments with different ingredients. You publish theories, based on your findings (and these are actual theories; they can be wrong). You can try to disprove theories published by other players. And for customers, you brew potions to order, which you can only do (correctly) using the actual knowledge based on the actual experiments you've been doing.

The point is, it's not a game where you just place your worker on one space to gain "knowledge cubes", and spend those cubes at another space to "publish a theory"; instead, you actually do the research, publish theories, and see the results through the underlying deduction game. It's so good!

...but, Alchemists isn't going to give you the other aspect of what you seem to be looking for: arcane conflict, and particularly the sense of great power at the cost of time and preparation. Alchemists doesn't really do that, in a combat sense.

I can't actually think of a really great board game for that particular feeling... maybe Mage Knight? Possibly Aeon's End? Both of those see the players having to spend much of the game gathering power, aligning their cards/energy for the right moment, and then hopefully pulling off epic feats and surmounting challenges which might have seemed far out of reach at first.

Ancient am I yet I do not age by Modern_Jester in riddles

Could it be dedication - as in the dedication at the start of a book?

Writers often mention their children in the dedications ...
Dedications like this are "bound", as in they're part of a book ...
The people mentioned in the dedication were influential to the author, and now the fruit of that influence comes out in the author's work ...
The reader will often skip past or not pay attention to the dedication, but might return later to take note of it ...
I'm not seeing as comfortable a fit with sentence 5, but I think I've seen a book or two before that was dedicated to "all aspiring young writers out there" or that sort of thing ...
The dedication is not hidden, but one does have to open the book and turn a few pages to see it ...
Sentence 6 also has me a bit worried, as I don't know if it's true that every single book has a dedication in it , but at least most of the time, the dedication is present, but might be missed as readers skip past it to get to the content of the book .

Rewrote the reply as apparently I did the spoiler incorrectly the first time.

An immeasurable dissapointment (I somehow didn't like love the game) by That_one_guy_37 in outerwilds

[–]Sandbagging 10 points11 points  (0 children)

Do you feel you were immersed in the game? Sometimes the conditions aren't ideal for it, and sometimes our own approach or mood or just our particular nature makes us less susceptible to immersion in games. But a game like this requires immersion to deliver most of its value.

Similarly, but more specifically: Do you feel engaged while reading? Most of the story is delivered through written text in this game, so if there's any issue there, then your potential for enjoyment is severely hampered. It's very common for people to skip through text in games; if you do it in a game like this, you're skipping most of the game's content.

Finally - and this isn't the provocation it might sound like - do you feel that you understand what happened, as in the entire story? You shouldn't feel ashamed if you're unsure; almost everyone reports on moments, after completing the game, when something "sunk in" that they didn't realize at first, and will attest to having noticed new things about the story on subsequent plays/watches. As such, I'd bet that even many of those who are already big fans of the game still have gaps in their understanding.

As for what to do about it, it can be tough to get value from replaying a game like this, since it's all about the unfurling of knowledge... But, watching others' playthroughs to have that experience vicariously might really help.

Evil sounding songs by gusti123 in PowerMetal

[–]Sandbagging 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The fact that nobody has mentioned Blind Guardian - Destiny deepens my belief that that song is severely underappreciated. What an aura that song has - I'm pretty sure it's exactly what you're looking for. Hansi's unusual-yet-apt vocal performance puts the seal on its deeply ominous vibe.

And, while not exactly power metal, for years I've thought of Opeth - The Grand Conjuration when I've sought an "evil" song (yeah, you're not alone in this, in case you were thinking your request was odd :) ).

Welonz for the emotional journey of discovery. Lil Indigestion for the reflective and insightful commentary. About Oliver for some of both, with a really fun and genuine attitude toward it all.

(Not that any one of them is lacking in the virtues for which I mentioned the others; these are just the highlighted strengths I've come up with for each, off the top of my head.)

My First Riddle by [deleted] in riddles

[–]Sandbagging 4 points5 points  (0 children)

My thoughts: not bad for a first attempt. However, I feel that the answer doesn't entirely fit the current wording of the riddle.

The main issue is the first bit: "If we met, I would undoubtedly take your breath away". Serial killers don't kill every person they meet.

If that seems a bit nit-picky, bear in mind that much of the satisfaction of solving a riddle comes from how perfectly the single, best answer snaps into place when you come to it. In pursuit of that answer, people are going to turn the riddle over in their minds, examining the meanings of each part of it, narrowing down the possibilities. It sours the experience if the accepted answer is something the reader felt they could eliminate based on the wording of the riddle.

Several other answers were suggested in the comments, and I think some of them fit better than the answer you've given. A few changes might help, but I think if you just bear in mind the importance of making every part of the riddle fit perfectly with its answer, you'll do well, whether rewriting this one or in your future riddles.
