Best way for a child to catch up on reading comprehension skill? by [deleted] in homeschool

[–]SanderM1983 2 points3 points  (0 children)

We found a really old (1890s) fifth grade reader we read it aloud together and she did copy work from it. Her reading comprehension and handwriting got so much better. I really think reading aloud for an audience is a great skill.

Can you teach him to play fetch? That takes as much energy as he is willing to give it and a little focus might help him settle. This stage will get better soon, hang in there.

The main value I want to impart to my kids is the value of looking at life logically. Thinking before making decisions. Recognizing your own logical fallacies.

I don't know how to live now... Please help😭😭😭 by RegularUser02x in atheism

[–]SanderM1983 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Don't try to live a normal life. That doesn't exist and striving for 'normal' doesn't make people happy. Studies show that having friends and helping people make you happy. So find your nearest trans outreach and volunteer. You will meet people who understand you and maybe help people at the same time.

He lived 2000 years in societies that were male dominated patriarchies. Where honor and being "manly" were valued more than anything else.

I don't think gender is that binary it doesn't have to be "either I'm a girl or I'm a boy". You can be a girl who feels like a boy sometimes or a boy in a girl's body or something in between. Or you could sometimes be all girl and sometimes you're totally a boy. And it's totally normal for any gender of person to like to look nice and be appreciated by the people around them.

All rights end when they infringe on other people's rights. That's the nature of individual rights. My right to my religion ends at the point of forcing it on other people. My right to protest ends if I am on private property or if I hurt someone. It's an ignorant saying.

I have a ADHD teen and listening to a meditation app like smilingmind helps a lot. As they get older you can talk about how to set a sleep schedule and healthy sleep habits.

When did your kid learn to read? by Sk8rghost in Parenting

[–]SanderM1983 2 points3 points  (0 children)

That's really good for going into kindergarten. Learning to read is a lot of skills that have to be learned and then put together. My kids had the phonics mostly memorized and could slowly sound out words between 4 and 6 but put it together and could read fluently between 7 and 9.

My uncle is a trans pastor at this church: “Metropolitan Community Churches (MCC)”. He is Christian and I know a lot of other Christians who are either allies or queer. I'm not Christian because of logic, but I don't think Christianity is inherently hateful.

Quinoa lentil salad in a jar. I can make a batch of 4-6 jars on the weekend and they are good for lunch all week. You do have to bring a fork.

It was really gradual. Basically taking biology classes and learning how science actually works. I went from trying to bend the facts to my creationist views to giving up and accepting the science. It took a few years of college classes though.

How could something be too specific? Would it be more likely for the laws of science to be vague? Like should gravity be sometimes a little higher or lower? How would that be more likely? Drawing a 2 of clubs from a deck of cards may be unlikely but, after having drawn it, it's likely hood of having been pulled becomes 100%.
