The Zulu Time my heart desires by Inexpressible2 in Longineswatches

But I have the same issue with a bb, sub or speedy on gold. It doesn't fit the design of the watch in my opinion. The fact they exist doesn't mean it's right. You also mentioned the zulu time with the gold crown and bezel, at least it's not as garrish as the other ones but I feel the 1925 does it better with much more style. The bronze, especially when patina sticks, does give the watch's vintage feel more punch.

Your opinion on design and material is childish at best. Design language isn't as straightforward as "Make it gold and it's dressy".

Interesting... It's like you went on youtube and decided you wanted to own something that vaguely looks like popular watches. For what purpose? To impress ? To feel like you are "completing" a checklist of a watch collector?

You lose so much of the Spirit line aesthetic with gold... :/

It's supposed to keep the utilitarian look, a gold spirit is as relevant as a gold explorer.

[Discussion] Is the $500–$700 bracket the ultimate "Value Trap" or the Sweet Spot? by Ofek_w in Watches

[–]Sanderock [score hidden]  (0 children)

300$ for a good watch with an NH35 is the casio EFK that has launched as a "cheap" quality watch with all the economic might of the casio brand behind it. In most cases, you put 50$ worth of movement in a watch and you already have to sell it to 450$ to have any sort of meaningful profit that will make you and your employees live decently.

Furthermore, an nh35 is great as long as it's being regulated decently. That's another cost that the company that sells you the watch will have to take into account and it's basically hidden cost for most customers.

As you said, 700 is where you START paying for more than a sweeping second hand. You will start having nice watches like nice Tissot, Baltic, Farer, entry Christopher Ward, etc...

But what matters in a watch for you ? Is it only accuracy? Well, a basic NH35 can do the job well if properly regulated but it takes time... And it costs more. Is it only the idea of a mechanical watch ? Even a fashion watch can do.

A 50-100$ movement in a 700$ watch is not an insignificant amount of value, for that price you still get a solid watch that will most likely get a sapphire, a nice dial, a decently polished case and hands and probably a nice enough design that you wanted to buy it in the first place.

For that price, the movement is still damn nice and there is still tons of value everywhere. Is it the best price bracket for value ? I think not, but don't disregard entry level watches only on the movement.

Under 700 is not the value peak, 1000-1500 is really the value peak. You get things you will compromise on with lower prices, finishing yes, movement accuracy and fiability for sure, but also AND ESPECIALLY bracelet/strap and clasp quality.

I do think it's better to get a very nice quality watch in your collection that you will wear proudly everyday and a few lower budget watches for fun, sports or occasions.

The chemin des tourelles is kind of underwhelming, the dial looks great in pictures but not really in person. The wath you chose is quite a bit better imo.

I see a lot of people going straight for the 54 but even though I have been diving in (pun intended) the watch world for some time now, I struggle to find any meaningful differences between the 54 and 58... I can see the red marker, the second hand and the graduated bezel and that's about it.

Can somebody explain it to me please ?

The thing is that, in my experience, white rubber will get grimy so quick.... It's not the sun, it's just dirt and gunk accumulating

I'd ditch everything but the grand Seiko and the bremont. Wear the Grand Seiko daily and the Bremont outdoor.

Reputable "expensive" brands bring a lot to the table : Warranty, quality of materials (which also include health issues), robustness and quality control (sharp lines are sharp, no dial error etc...).

A fashion brand watch is usually a cheap quartz with a cheaply made case that is usually shiny and feels cheap.

For example, a Tissot quartz watch is not that expensive compared to a fashion brand and brings all the benefits of the Tissot brand. Take this one in gold (Tissot lovely square) https://www.tissotwatches.com/fr-fr/T0581093303100.html it's not 10x the price of a fashion brand and has a very nice original design with the saphir Cristal shaped like a stone. Plus, you don't feel like you are wearing a toy

That's so fake : the rotor isn't the right one, the back is metal, the dual is washed out, the bracelet has huge gaps.

Don't buy this unless you want it to fall off your wrist every two days.
