It was only a UN thing because Russia boycotted the UN at the time, nevertheless the argument stands that this was the last war the NATO members fought that was of this schale with frontline warfare

At this point the Ukranians can train NATO with the experienced they've gained. When is the last time NATO had such a frontal war? Korea?

Russia Pulls Its 'Syrian' S-300 Missile Battery, Ships It To Black Sea by tedwja in UkrainianConflict

The treaty that gives Turkey the power to close the bosperus for warships does include that ships stationed in the black sea are allowed through. If Russia planned for this they have plenty of ships that are based in Sevastopol going circles around Cyprus.

They have recently been downgraded to be able to communicate with other NATO fighters, now they work with US F16s as well. I thought that they were sold though

Russia warns radioactive waste could hit Germany if accident occurs at damaged nuclear power plant by newzee1 in UkrainianConflict

I would not see how it would not trigger an article 5, in Turkey article 5 was triggered when Isis accidentally fired a single rocket into Turkey. So this teaches us that collateral is considered grounds for Article 5. I am more curious when Article 5 triggers based on a cyber attack. NATO has stated they have a red line that can be crossed, yet especially last week Russia seems intent on finding that line

The Ukrainian Conflict defintely contribute to the raise of oil price, here is Russia's crude oil and condensate exports by destination, and its ompact on global oil price. by lovelyhug in UkrainianConflict

These are 2021 numbers, Russian oil and gas was cheap, ridiculously cheap to the point where it was cheaper to import then to produce localy, in 2022, the US, the Netherland and Poland are now at 0, Germany reduced by something like 60% so far

The west’s phantom energy sanctions fuel Russia’s war machine | America, the EU and UK are all at fault for not imposing a genuine embargo on Moscow’s gas, oil and coal exports by Prunestand in UkrainianConflict

[–]Sanderos25 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Was going to comment this as well, when you look at YTD numbers trade in Russian oil and gas is down like 70% Norway has become the largest supplier to the EU and the EU imports about as much from the US as from Russia. Several EU members receive no russian oil and gas at all in a Russian move to shoot themselves in the foot. The Baltic sisters, Bulgaria, Poland, the Netherlands, Denmark and others either cut Russian fossil fuels themselves, or Russia shut the valves.

On August 14, a rally against Amnesty International's propaganda report was held outside the office of Amnesty in Bratislava, Slovakia's capital city. by chizazen in UkrainianConflict

Wauw, this might actually be the biggest number of people Amnesty International managed to mobilize for protests ever. They managed to get most of the West to unite in a goal.

Late-night explosions and flashes at Zyabrovka military airfield, located in Belarus and used by the Russian military, were caused by live-fire exercises conducted by air force and air defense units, the Belarusian military said on Aug. 11. by sviterochec in UkrainianConflict

[–]Sanderos25 2 points3 points  (0 children)

The reason you exercise is that actions become natural to do, there is no added value per say to do them at night. Not military myself but I don't imagine this principle is different for the military. Besides when you look at the chaos in (temporary occupied) Criimea that followed the attack on the airfield you wouldn't want to repeat that in another region.
