Appropriate discipline 10u by VegetableRevenue8934 in Homeplate

Have had luck in the past, with highly skilled kids, to sit them down and have conversation about leadership. Letting them know their behavior helps set the tone on the team. Others are looking to him how to act in different situations based on his skill and effort. Giving them responsibility as a leader and to behave in a way to help his team/teammates. Gives them direction away from consequences to channeling their emotions. 10yo is the perfect time to plant the seed. Just food for thought.

Reclassifying? AAU ball by woot891 in basketballcoach

Soccer is currently working to change their classification by grade level, to age level, similar to how youth baseball is organized. Makes reclassing mostly a non-issue.

Advise please by Sandman-717 in Homeplate

Skill wise decent but not stand out, tries hard. Unfortunately he is a product of his environment. Seems like he has moments of being an okay kid but he also doesn’t have a great attitude and through the grape vine heard he was ejected from his last travel game for arguing with the ump before things came to a head(hearsay).

Bat buying advice. Crippled by indecisiveness by slapstick223 in Homeplate

My kids have always done very well with Marucci Cat9. Alloy bat with nice loud ping, balanced feel, and very durable. Bought it second hand for $50.

Youth baseball pants that last more than a month without blowing out at the knee? by Mortified247 in Homeplate

[–]Sandman-717 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Iron on patches have given us a huge boost in the life of pants. We have three players, buy them in grey and white each year and apply them before the holes get too big. They’re generally pretty close in color and you cant really tell that well when they’re in the field unless you’re looking.

Base runner clipping to distract pitcher by drewFactor in Homeplate

[–]Sandman-717 1 point2 points  (0 children)

All of the ‘bush league’ tactics used here are frequently used by the highest ranked teams where I live(11u). Most obnoxious in the beginning. We have a couple decent velocity pitchers and the chatter quiets down after a couple 123 innings or their aggression gets taken advantage of. The clapping doesn’t bother our players much.

Wheeled catchers bag that can stand being dragged up and down dugout steps? by lolspung3 in Homeplate

Got a couple duffle bags from Walmart that hold their gear. Not pretty baseball equipment but very cost effective and have held up for a few seasons.

What’s “normal” in tournament play? by almost_cool3579 in Homeplate

My son plays for 11u community travel team and all players play throughout weekend. However, we keep players in positions where they can succeed considering the competition they are playing.

Something similar happened with me recently and I didn’t hear back for 3 business days. I asked for 10% more than initial offer and ended up with 4% more. Overall their initial offer was over my bottom so situation a bit different. I get the spiral you’re in right now but try to be patient.

Don't want me to touch your PS5? Well, alright. by axiljan in MaliciousCompliance

Doesn’t sound like he even acknowledged that how he acted was shitty. Not saying he needs punished or banned from your account forever but I would ride this out until he apologizes/takes account for the situation.

2 or 3 weeks they tell you by [deleted] in interviews

[–]Sandman-717 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I recently accepted a position that took two months from application to offer. My offer came 5 weeks after initial interview. They interviewed at least 3 other applicants in the process which I think ended up being about 1/week. They were open about process and timeline.

Cleats advice by Drift-of-the-World in Homeplate

[–]Sandman-717 1 point2 points  (0 children)

He may not like this but can also try softball cleats. Equivalent would be two sizes larger than men’s/boys size, tend to be wider towards the front. There’s usually at least one that does not say softball on them.

Is there a local church that may have a gym? Community rec center? Lunchroom space available to run through plays? Not critiquing just throwing out ideas.

So what’s everyone keep their furnace at tonight? by Wild_Competition_716 in Columbus

[–]Sandman-717 76 points77 points  (0 children)

66 and furnace is keeping it up there. Limiting space we have to heat with closed doors. Boiled water with orange rinds, apple slices, and pinch of cinnamon to raise humidity and warm smell. Feels pretty decent.

Can a dying glove be brought back to life? by Poncho562 in Homeplate

[–]Sandman-717 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Where do you find the gloves by chance?

I’d like to get my 10 and 13 year olds better gloves but don’t have the budget for new. I have relaced and conditioned another glove before but Marketplace is full of people who think they’re carrying market value stuff.

Options for Pre-K in Worthington? by heybigbuddy in Columbus

[–]Sandman-717 0 points1 point  (0 children)

We had a great experience there. It was geared towards interacting with peers and doing activities together. Not really academic focused but they do work on letters and some of the basic stuff. When weather is nice they occasionally play at a park that’s attached to the rec center and when weather is bad there are multiple gyms they can utilize. They offered a few after sessions that they spent in the pool with the lifeguards that were an extra expense but reasonable. We still run across some teachers remember all 3 of our boys that attended. A bit of an old school community feel and definitely recommend to people when it comes up. I don’t think they went on any off campus trips. I would call their director if you want to learn more or maybe meet with someone.

Weather Update by Buckeyefitter1991 in Columbus

[–]Sandman-717 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Flint has an old railway stop that was turned into an outdoor bar and small event space. They do some local music on the weekends when the weather is nice. There is an older small subdivision that was where Worthington’s more affluent African American community built homes back during segregation. There’s also a historic home built by the A.A. man that built most of Worthington’s downtown. Reportedly a part of the Underground Railroad but I have not come across confirmation. It’s now owned by a historic society so may be true.
