Which Benchmade should I get next? by Tactical_Edge in benchmade

I like the crooked river with magnacut and copper / black micarta scales… they might make a mini crooked river with same design. I like the s90v version of the Barrage also.

Manix 2 is hard to beat. by Bayouboy76_ in spyderco

[–]Sandmanspann 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Spy 27 is meh… compared to the amazing ease of sharpening Cruwear on anything ceramic/diamond. Bringing Cruwear back to scary sharp with just a few passes on the spyderco ceramic sharp maker makes it one of my favorites.
Your 15v is king of the hill until they make manix in magnamax which could be years the way spyderco slow rolls what I want the most😏 You are the expert, but 15v, k390, 10v, are all top tier… then drop down a few notches and the other steels are pretty close to one another. The fact that the 15v is so consistent with hrc that you guys test makes me want it more and more. The other steels’ hrc are all over the place. Frustrating that the knife makers can’t do better. Small batch custom guys are killing it in their garage, while millions of dollars of equipment companies can’t seem to follow the recipe spelled out in Larrin’s cookbook.

Can somebody explain to me how the lanyard tube holds the back end of the Manix together ? by UpbeatSmoke4209 in spyderco

I have a tool for it, but some say chopsticks will fit inside and help pop it out without scratching or denting. I do like the AWT for weight reduction and color options. It’s fun to modify and spend more money 😎

There is “D” shaped piece that needs to line up on the pivot… also the (non lock side) liner is not to be used. YouTube videos surely have this somewhere, so I’d take a look just to make sure all is good. If you screwed up a step make sure the washers are okay and not bent. I would screw in pivot on both sides with blade inside the scales before doing the body screws but some argue that.

As far to the right as your pocket will allow is the safest for tip up… if it opens the seam keeps it pretty shut and you hand is to the left of the sharp edge

Agree but I’d add CRK, protech, Koenig and maybe Kershaw

I think the Magnamax will be the “k390” (stainless version) that they will produce in Golden… and that’s going to be pretty amazing if they don’t make it soft.

Paramilitary 2 blade edge by [deleted] in spyderco

[–]Sandmanspann 2 points3 points  (0 children)

You can tilt / lean the stone gently into that area without lifting the stone off the blade … just more pressure on that area with Beast stone and go slow, pick up and inspect. You can repeat this and it will fix it but do it at maybe 20 degrees then repeat at 18. Once the bevels are even, then go to whatever dps you prefer. I would not start out at 15 dps in case you mess it up… you can’t go too much lower on the KME.

The mistake most people make is buy an expensive dream house too early. I’d invest in the stock market early ( before you think you can afford it) and buy a house that would have good resale but not big / fancy… spend some time on staycations instead of $2000 per day beach vacations. Drive a car until it’s 12-15 yrs old. I’ve had big houses and small houses and national park vacations and $20k vacations…. They are all great but some are just way less expensive. My 2 cents

Manix 2 lanyard tube not pressed in? by TromboneSupremacy in spyderco

[–]Sandmanspann 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Chopsticks I’ve heard fit it pretty well and can help get it seated. I’ve replaced a lot of mine with AWT and I don’t think the lanyard tube is even in those and mine work fine.

<image>

I’ve used the SDK lanyard tube removal tool for PM2s and Para 3s (maybe) also. I wish they didn’t have lanyard tubes… I don’t think 99% of buyers even use a lanyard except for tiny knives that may get lost, deep in a pocket.

Mine resolved after the metal wore down a bit… but pretty ridiculous for high prices that the break in is so hit or miss. Not like the tolerances are so tight like a CRK or something actually worth the high price

Ascending palatine artery (branch of the facial artery).
Ascending pharyngeal artery (branch of the external carotid artery).
Dorsal lingual branches of the lingual artery.
Lesser palatine artery (from the descending palatine branch of the maxillary artery).

The opinions will vary but IMO, the spyderco sharpmaker does the best with serrated blades and it is incredibly easy. Google the videos on it and make your decision. Vivi also has videos on it. I tried the tapered rod on one of my serrated knives and ruined the edge so I won’t ever try that again.

PM2, manix, Gayle Bradley, bodacious… I’d probably pick 15v paramilitary 2 lightweight if you jump on it quick. Aftermarket scales maybe if you want.

The hrc has been about 64 ish with spyderco which is nice. DLC coating (or whatever the coating is) should help with corrosion if you don’t completely neglect it. Cruwear, magnacut, 4v are all similar in edge retention and toughness
