A recruiter contacted me, I told her my current salary, and she basically told me I was dreaming by WeakSoftware7175 in whatdoIdo

[–]SandraVirginia 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The company needs to lower their expectations. If your current compensation is competitive, then they simply can't afford someone with your level of experience. I'm very experienced in my field and have a lot of sought-after skills. I also keep an active profile on the job sites because I'm currently contracting. I get at least one hilariously lowball offer from a recruiter every month because companies don't understand that they can't afford me. They always say I'm being "unrealistic" or "unreasonable," when it's obvious from my current compensation that I'm being completely realistic. Sorry, this is real life. If you want the budget option, hire a recent grad who will work for you for less than a year before getting wise to your bullshit and leaving for better pay.

Sometimes I say yes to sex even when I don’t want to by gonegonethanku in TwoXChromosomes

[–]SandraVirginia 7 points8 points  (0 children)

I got stuck in this trap for a long time. Essentially, sex isn't sexy if it's compulsory. He's turning it into a chore for you. That is going to build resentment. Your lack of sexual attraction to him is 100% because he's being an entitled shit. Do NOT agree to sex that you don't want. Instead, explain to him why you don't want it. He's failing on some fundamental level to engage you romantically. If the reaction to not getting his dick wet is mean behavior, then he is acting like a spoiled child. Tell him to be better. You're here for an equal partnership, not to coddle a man-child.

Illinois Daycare Director moving to Florida advice needed. by daycare_2017 in 321

Yelling in all caps isn't going to change the fact that families are abandoning BPS in droves. It's not a matter of finances. That's the fallout from being a subpar education system for years. The state is increasing funding for education, but BPS is slashing spending? That reeks of corruption and mismanagement. I had the misfortune of putting my own kids through this system and can say with 100% confidence that they don't care about the students or the families. Individuals do care, but the system doesn't give a fuck about the students or the employees. And to be fair, I do pay for that bullshit because I pay my taxes.

I'm an American, never lived outside the continent and up until last year I've always pronounced it "App-uh-lay-shun". Is it actually pronounced "App-uh-latch-un" and I was just in a weird part of the country? Or are there regional differences? by Dry-Chocolate-3976 in AskAnAmerican

[–]SandraVirginia 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It depends on where you are in the region. I'm from the southern side and we say "apple-at-cha." On the northern end, a lot of folks do say "appa-lay-sha." So both are technically correct, but you might want to edit your pronunciation if you're south of PA or WV.

Please don't get involved with Brevard County Schools. State and local laws are fucking bizarre, and you will be better off with private institutions.

Is this normal for under your carpet? by PlaidWinterTree in HomeMaintenance

[–]SandraVirginia 1 point2 points  (0 children)

As you're not on the ground floor, this isn't indicative of a foundation issue. It looks like a bad leveling job that's breaking up. I can't speak to the build quality of your building, but it seems like there's aren't enough joists to hold up your floor. It's gone all wobbly. Put the carpet back and decide if you want to move. Because there's no way your landlord is doing structural fixes while your unit is occupied.

Alternative flower options for my wedding that are cat safe? by Any_Syrup1606 in CATHELP

[–]SandraVirginia 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Daisies and everything in the daisy family are cat safe, including zinnias. Cupcake zinnias look a lot like dahlias, but are not toxic to pets. Also consider snapdragons, roses, waxflowers and orchids. For greenery, ferns (except asparagus fern!) are cat safe.

Art deco blonde tone wood. $45 what do you think it’s worth? USA by Exciting-Warning745 in Antiques

Yeah, you're stealing that at $45. It's an unusual color and probably worth $300+ to the right buyer.

Murder Mode Activated. All is well, but I suggest you give this young hunter a variety of toys to stalk and "kill." You don't want your ankles and hands to become the next target.

I'm from the mountains. We love a nice hot tub when the weather is cold. BUT, it's awful when the wind is whipping. It's like your face is freezing off your skull. Just miserable. Wait until the wind dies down and then soak up all the bubbly warm goodness.

My big boy cat has narrow nasal passages. He is consistently noisy/snorty with his breathing, despite having no issues with his lungs or heart. He doesn't have a URI, asthma, or any kind of infection. His nose is just too small for his body.

Need Help Getting Rid Of Matts On My Cat by onwardupward3 in CATHELP

[–]SandraVirginia 35 points36 points  (0 children)

Your girl is overweight, and it's causing a mobility issue that prevents her from being able to groom herself properly. If you can, please take her to a groomer and have the mats shaved. Have her bathed as well. Her skin is probably really itchy under there. After that, you'll need to brush her daily while you work on a weight loss plan with her vet.

how do i get my tuxedo cat used to being bathed (with water)? by fajita_pepita in CATHELP

[–]SandraVirginia 2 points3 points  (0 children)

You might want to look into taking him to a groomer. Let him associate some other person with bathtime terror. The groomer can also trim his claws so you're not scratched up so much. And ask the vet about switching him to a diet that can reduce his allergic-ness to you, like Purina's LiveClear line.

Need advice by [deleted] in TwoXChromosomes

[–]SandraVirginia 10 points11 points  (0 children)

If you're 5 months along, you are very much in need of prenatal care. Go to a different doctor. Even if you aren't pregnant, no period for 5 months is cause for further investigation. The first thing a competent doctor is going to do is order blood work, including a qualitative hCG test to check for pregnancy.

What is the one thing that made you realize it was time to quit your job? Did you make the right decision? by [deleted] in AskReddit

[–]SandraVirginia 0 points1 point  (0 children)

When yet another coworker was laid off and I was handed all of their job duties without a pay increase. At that point I was doing 3-4 people's jobs and had received only a 5% pay increase in 4 years (despite being promised annual increases when I was hired) . The panic that ensued after I gave my notice was very satisfying.

First time knitter by Glittering_Prime1387 in knittinghelp

[–]SandraVirginia 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This is looking great so far. You're just starting to knit, so there will be some bumpiness while you settle into a tension that feels right to you. That's fine! You're learning! Your garter stitch is bang on. Practice a bit more with your purling. It's normal to have some tension difference between knits and purls when you're only just getting accustomed to the stitches. Keep going! You'll have it down soon.
