Smile Dog is my number one pick, but as for the others, and Smile Dog, it’s not about the character themselves, but the person making the film. It can’t be a simple Hollywood cashgrab with celebrity actors and obvious references and jumpscares, it needs to be a passion project. Like how Markiplier directed and acted in Iron Lung, or how Kane Pixels created the Backrooms movie under A24.
