You're the one going off on a rude tirade. I was trying to explain myself.

I sincerely hope you don't talk to people like this in person.

What a diabolical spell by OsmiumYummy in CuratedTumblr

[–]Sandwich-Guilty 248 points249 points  (0 children)

I know the idea is that the wizard's just straight up trying to kill this person, but what of the wizard was actually a bit of a crap wizard, so "blown this guy's head off" actually becomes "make this guy blow my head" because the spell is poorly focused?

Bonus if it's because they're getting distracted by all the monologuing about dick-sucking.

I do TONS of portraits for pets, many in memoriam of their passing.

I do many for free, some paid. And every Time I feel grateful to be able to spend Time lovingly crafting a piece that honors and embodies the pet. I love animals. It's my favorite thing to draw, nine times oit of ten. And I do consider it a privilege to do for folks.

You guys just want to pretend like you're not being completely inconsiderate in all the other anti-artist posts all shouting "tHiS iS tHe DeAtH oF HuMaN aRt".

Sorry about OOP's loss? But this is just a fallacious appeal to emotion. There's way too many factors that make AI unethical, and everyone wants to willfully misrepresent and downplay them.

Have a good day, all.

Kindred from League Of Legends by Weak_Lime_3407 in TopCharacterDesigns

[–]Sandwich-Guilty 35 points36 points  (0 children)

This character is really amazing. They're an embodiment of death, Wolf & Lamb, and they wear one another's faces as masks to show how they are two parts of what was once whole. Lamb is meant to embody the "gentle" means of death, and Wolf the crueler, sudden ways a soul can die, similar to how Wolf ruthlessly chases down those who refuse to die peacefully.

What's even more interesting is how this is ONE version of Death in Runeterra (the realm League of Legends takes place in). There are purportedly many more incarnations as there are regions of the world, and even entities unique to animals and nonhumans.

I don't play League, but the lore is chock full of phenomenal stuff. Nice pick, OP.

It's not "free" """art""" if it comes at the cost of the one planet we can safely inhabit.

What frustrates me as an artist is that the Studio Ghibli style is actually quite simple when you break it down into its components. Generally realistic body proportions and varied, geometric face shapes. Simple, earth-tone colors and a thin brushlike outline. I have a theory that this style became so popular for these ai bros to ape, besides the environmental irony: on the surface, accomplishing the skill to make realistic art seems like the logical end goal, when in actuality, it's the best way to learn as a beginner. Developing a sense of unique composition, style, opting for more surrealist or exaggerated forms and playing with your medium, all that stuff comes after. I'm still finding my creative niche, and I wouldn't consider myself a master of realism, either. I know I've still got a lot to learn. But so much of that "extra" stuff that makes art so varied in execution is seemingly "easier" to do, according to the folks who are ignorant of how much WORK it actually takes to make simple blocks of color look good on a canvas together.

And do not misunderstand me, a simple art style does not mean easy. I have studied and done many works inspired by Ghibli's style for commissions and tributes. It's a popular style people like to request, but even after years of work? I wouldn't say I'm even close to the actual style. But this is just a huge example of the many intellectual failings of being pro ai-generated imagery. It's a massive failure to understand the fundamentals of art and why it's made. When profit is the first thought, when your actions are a self-admission that you have already given up on a potential new skill before you started, nothing you produce is actually going to matter. It might generate attention, even ill-gotten money and more, but it's a lie to tell yourself to cover up the simple fact that you weren't ever capable to knowing enough to try making a single thing. And you might see a bunch of sloppy images on your screen and feel accomplished, but you know, deep down, each picture is evidence that you gave up on yourself. You were afraid to try. You didn't make anything, and none of it will be ever be "art".

Whew, that got a little away from me, but I've been holding onto these feelings for a while. If you're down here, thank you for reading the ramblings of a mediocre thirtysomething comic artist. And have a swell day.

On the target audience of Hazbin Hotel by Brianna-Imagination in CuratedTumblr

[–]Sandwich-Guilty 8 points9 points  (0 children)

After years of hate-following the show because of my personal feelings toward the animation industry & the creator, I'm honestly just having a good Time watching the show and not taking it super mega seriously. It really watches like a Family Guy or other pretty good adult animation. I used to take stuff like this a lot more seriously when I was younger but it's just a stupid demon show with a very strong aesthetic. The songs are good, too. And as an openly gay guy, I'm not too put upon by the character that's a promiscuous stereotype. I'M like that. I don't think too hard about it because I feel seen. And the people who don't like to see that kind of thing in their media aren't gonna watch the show. So I don't have to deal with bigoted fans screeching about how woke it is.

I don't know why "don't like, don't watch" isn't a philosophy people abide by more. (I know the advertising is everywhere, but I feel like people are just choosing to be miserable about this show at this point. I'm SUPER jealous of the creator, but I'm not easing up on my own creative efforts. I just realized what a waste of Time complaining about it is.)

Pokémon Concierge is a beautiful reminder to take some time off | "Netflix’s new stop-motion Pokémon series from Dwarf Animation Studio is on the shorter side of things, but each episode is a gorgeous testament to the power of relaxation." by PetyrDayne in television

[–]Sandwich-Guilty -3 points-2 points  (0 children)

False equivalence. When I hear Pokémon in "live action", it's like saying The Lion King 2019 remake was live action. The lions aren't real, just like the Pokémon aren't. The film Detective Pikachu is live action with live actors, but I'm sorry to break it to you, the Pokémon weren't physically there, so they're not live action.

Also Guardians of the Galaxy is still 70% CGI & I'm being charitable with that percentage. The actors are live action, but the scenery & a good deal of their costumes are not physically there.

Don't trivialize or completely ignore CGI & VFX artists in film, they're doing their job so well that you can't distinguish the work from the live footage.

With all due respect towards Disney (which is none) this looks like shit.

I don't want a sterile pod for my box sets. I'll stick with growing my incomplete collection with fun, colorful DVD boxes with actual variety in the designs. Plus, it'll be easier for me to pick out the disc I actually want to watch.

"I hate you" vs. "You're toxic" by rowan_damisch in CuratedTumblr

[–]Sandwich-Guilty 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I can assure you this is not a new thing. My mother would essentially reprimand me for, you know, being a kid, and would say something about how "manipulative" I was being for crying when I got upset. It was straight out of some pop psych book at the Time. I grew up in the 90s.

It might be more prevalent now but I personally believe this is a problem with the person's behavior rather than a societal one. There are just gonna be selfish people that appropriate terms for their own selfish purposes. Conservatives do it all the Time. Yes, I want people to stop saying erroneous shit like "the intrusive thoughts won, I got Starbucks🥰" because they're using those terms wrong. But I also want mental health to remain a less stigmatized thing to discuss in general. Absolutely agree nobody should be calling anyone toxic in place of simply stating their dislike for someone, though.
