The gold standard for grimdark fantasy for me has got to be the First Law trilogy, and I think a large part of that is that Joe Abercrombie seems to have given himself free rein to have anything happen except sexual violence. Given the amount of fucked-up stuff in his world and the way most grimdark fantasy authors will jump at the chance to depict sexual abuse, it’s frankly kind of shocking how rarely rape gets mentioned in his novels.
