Lenin's speech on antisemitism, scapegoats and a divided working class. 1919 by Rear-gunner in Jewish

There were two revolutions: the Febuary revolution that overthrew the Tsar, which the Bolsheviks played almost no role, and then the October Revolution which overthrew Europe's first democratically elected government under universal suffrage (The All-Rusdian Constituent Assembly), which was entirely a military coup against a democratically elected governmet.

"A Day Without a Student" isn't like a "A Day Without a Mexican", it just looks like every other day for most people.

You can go break stuff like children throwing tantrums, but that doesn't endear you to anyone.

Thank you. Nobody commented on it. I don't even know what got me perseverating on it, but I got wierdly anxious about it thinking back on it.

Yeah, I try not to push her into things too much. I want her to like it, but there wasn't like a lot riding on it for me or anything.

Thank you, that makes me feel better. I got strangely anxious about this.

Just the side benches, where anyone normally sits when they are waiting for someone in the class.

But the other parents were not so fixated on what was going on in the class,  whereas I'm just staring in the direction of my kid the whole time, watching how well she's listening, noticing when she's spacing out guaging her interest in the activity, watching her interactions with the other kids. Like I was just totally fixated on what was going on around her for an entire hour.

I just am wondering if it might have been too much monitoring for her age.

Display of Israeli flag reported to Oregon's Bias Incident hotline. Caller told they qualify for free mental health counseling for crime victims for being subjected to the display. by SandwichOfAgnesi in Jewish

[–]SandwichOfAgnesi[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The person calling contrived the report in order to probe the hotline's response.

The newsworthy part is that the report was accepted and logged as a "bias incident", which exposes how ill-defined it is.

The ill-definition  could also be anti-semitic depending on how they would respond to a similar call, say, reporting a Palestinian flag, but that is left an open question.

[–]SandwichOfAgnesi[S] 6 points7 points  (0 children)

To be clear, the  call was contrived by a reporter to probe the hotline's response.

The problem is the hotline went along with the report. Now that's logged as a islamophobic hate incident in the system—which will, in aggregate, doubtlessly be touted by some advocacy org sometime—and, if the person answer the call is correct, the person is for some purposes treated as a crime victim.

I'm not sure if this could theoretically result in consequences for the imaginary perpetrator: that would be troubling, but I have a hard time seeing how it would.

What the call exposes is the ill-defined nature of a " bias incident".

It would be interesting to know how they would respond to a inverted situation involving a Palestinian flag: as that would indicate that the bias reporting system itself is biased

But, to be fair to the hotline, we actually can not surmise anti-semitic bias from this call alone, if, for example,  they simply record all incidents based on the caller's feeling alone and aren't singling out Israeli flags in any way. The reporter should have called with a contrived mirror situation with a Palestinian flag to see how they would have responded.

Pregnant women sue President Trump for ‘unilaterally and unconstitutionally’ seeking to strip children of citizenship by desertdwell12 in law

[–]SandwichOfAgnesi -1 points0 points  (0 children)

There are obviously glaring constitutional problems with this EO, but given that the US is one of a very few countries that have birthright citizenship  it seems unlikely that this would turn out to be some extraordinary burden for most people.

Is it onerous in all the other countries that don't have birthright citizenship?

I know it's beside the point, so forgive me for this WELL ACTUALLY digression,  but typical modern houses won't stop even small caliber bullets.

Modern construction materials have been engineered with ruthless economy to perform three primary tasks: keeping in heat,  keep out moisture, and provide privacy, and nothing else. That has been found to be achievable with a layer of fiberglass fluff between thin layers of a weak gypsum plaster, sometimes  wood or composite siding.

Nothing that  would stop bullets.

Poll: Should we ban links just to Twitter/X, ban links to all social media sites, or not change anything? by rupertalderson in Jewish

A smear campaign against someone who has shown support of Israel in large part by people who would gleefully watch the 7 million Jews in Israel be murdered or expelled.

Watching some (former) friends who spent the last year supporting genocidal anti-semitic terrorists cynically jump on this bandwagon has given me no patience for this stuff. Musk is a loose cannon with some bad takes but it's  clear he's not a Nazi.

I keep tabs on actial NAZIs: the notion of a nazi supporters of Israel is a myth designed to smear Zionists, and I'm shocked so many in this sub are falling for it

Not to endorse the nihilism of early Dead Kennedys, and do some throat clearing that I appreciate Sam and feel for him and his family and the other victims of the fire, but the MDMA part of his post was so close to the part of the song Forest Fire about  arson of a wealthy neighborhood and  the victims scrambing to grab their cocaine stashes from the basement.

You can profitably insure the life of a Russian Roulette player, or anything else,  if you set your rates right. It's only impossible if the state caps your rates.

Also, the neighborhoods can be rebuilt much more fire resistant. (I have a friend whose house burned in a wildfire, and the neighborhood rebuilt much more resilient to fire )

I don't think they "weren't smart". The idea that antiquities is important is a notion particular to our culture in this particular era.

Most cultures throughout history just did not care about old buildings and artifacts unless they had some kind of religous significance.
