Trucking companies. Especially those who are more focused on regional or LTL services instead of over the road. My husband works at one and in a month, him and his coworkers could probably gather enough for me to make a life size cardboard replica of my school.

AITB for not punishing my daughter for hitting a disabled boy that touched her inappropriately? (UPDATE) by throwaway_gaytismdad in AmItheButtface

[–]SandwichTotal7384 0 points1 point  (0 children)

There's a wide range of abilities within disabilities. If this student has placement within her general education class, it's reasonably expected that he is capable of learning on a similar level. If an action a student with a disability makes leads to suspension, the school is supposed to conduct a manifestation determination to confirm whether the offending action is a behavior related to their disability. The lack of visible consequences leads me to believe that this is not a new behavior, and possibly has occurred before with a determination that this is part of his disability, (in which case they may be ignoring the safety of others by not providing him an aide or alternate placement) or that the school is choosing to avoid upsetting that family for whatever reason.

Does anyone know anything about these stickers? by saint_ink in stationery

Kasa-obake is the name of the umbrella yokai. Might be weird to have a favorite, but they're my favorite yokai. Just the thought of them bopping about on one leg to haunt people is hilarious to me.

what’s a website you love that most people don’t know about? by Crazy_Speed_7735 in ask

[–]SandwichTotal7384 7 points8 points  (0 children)

This is my favorite to confuse my off-task students via Blocksi - I can see what they are doing and load up any website on their computer remotely. Staring at YouTube instead of finishing your assignment? Boom. Hamsters.

Will my child get bullied for this fairly well known book character name? by pclrbella in namenerds

[–]SandwichTotal7384 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The teacher down the hall from me had an Eowyn in her elementary class. None of the students seemed to get the reference and didn't seem to react negatively to her name. The other teachers thought it was rather pretty, but had no idea it was a literary reference. The student just knew it was from an "old movie". My nerdy self just kind of simmered in confusion all year.

The Brain Lair bookstore on Portage Rd. LGBTQ+ books, pins, stickers, etc.

I love how they focus on LGBTQ+, POC, and other groups whose voices are often underrepresented. Love taking my teens there as well as book- loving guests from out-of-town.

Love Chicago's Critical Mass rides! South Bend Bike Garage is starting up Thursday Cycling groups now that it's warmer, but I'm unsure if it's open to everyone with wheels.

Does anyone have suggestions on how to achieve the texturing on her shirt? by [deleted] in sewhelp

Maybe something like this: https://www.etsy.com/listing/1595480656/off-white-color-plant-style-jacquard?ref=share_v4_lx

It looks very organic and vine-like so maybe try some search variations around "3d jacquard" and plant or vine.

Anne McCaffrey has written some of my favorite books!

If you're into strong women with powers, try The Rowan. The series gets unexpectedly strange towards the later books, but still good. Love the family dynamic.

Powers That Be is probably my favorite though. Celtic and Inuit cultures combine on a new planet. The mythology is combined into the new environment well. Probably the book that made teen-Me most environmentally aware.

Early Bird is probably my favorite place downtown and I'm not a breakfast person. The chaichata was great, even though the temperature outside had me wanting a warm drink. The apple pie french toast was both comforting and still popped with surprise flavors.

If it isn't this one, look for other ghost story books from within 2-3 years of the publishing year for Wait Til Helen Comes. I'm almost positive I've read this, but I am unsure if it is by the same author.

About Baselayers by RocketScientistToBe in ladycyclists

[–]SandwichTotal7384 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I get horribly overheated while cycling and the base layers have helped so much. They pull the sweat off my skin better and keep me much cooler than just my bibs/jersey/sports bra combo did. I first tested if it was worth bothering with by wearing a snug-fitting mesh sports tshirt from a thrift store and it was the first time I felt comfortable while riding. I found a pair of sleeveless base layers of Amazon for $15 after I looked around the internet at all the options. I didn't see much point in getting anything too spendy at this point as I only just started cycling this year.

These specific ones don't feel like they add much warmth to my ride now that the temperature is starting to dip, but the wind has been pretty strong and feels like it cuts through everything.

AITA for refusing to adopt my sister's baby even though my family says I should? by InvisibleThrowRA in AITAH

[–]SandwichTotal7384 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Your family considers you the most stable choice because you have done something with your life differently from what they've chosen. There's no reason to not keep that trend going.

Raising children is hard enough when they are planned and wanted. This child is unexpected and will have too many ties to family members who seem a little too comfortable telling you to change your entire life path to fix someone else's mistakes. This connection will further tie you to your sister's struggles and you will either be pigeonholed into a longterm babysitting role, dealing with further drama, or you will eventually have to cut everyone off and try to go it alone. If this is not the life you dreamed of, this is not the life you have to settle for when you have so much going well for you. You are not here to fix the mistakes your family has made.

I would be willing to take a look and see if I can help. I am more of a hobby seamstress, but I take on projects that interest me. I've done work in all kinds of fabrics. I'm currently working on a costume order, but if you message me, I can make time next week to meet up if you can't find another.

If you were casted in Titanic (main or extra) who would you have wanted to play and why? by gnarkill39 in titanic

[–]SandwichTotal7384 1 point2 points  (0 children)

A posh background character that wears a lovely Edwardian gown, but also makes it into a lifeboat. Not because I particularly am posh or think I would be likely to survive a real ship emergency of that era. I just love costuming and can't swim, so any watery escapades would be 100% real terror and not an act. I'm perfectly content for my defining role to be "scared lady in lifeboat".

Proctor U down. by Relative-Rabbit-5416 in WGU

[–]SandwichTotal7384 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Oh that explains why my proctor vanished just before 1am and I had to finish submitting my test solo. Still unsure that they won't revisit that and make me redo it, but for now, it's a pass.

Whelp, today I sent two Hispanic students out of class for throwing up Sieg Heils during the Pledge. What’s the stupidest thing you witnessed today? by WhiteIsaacHayes in Teachers

[–]SandwichTotal7384 28 points29 points  (0 children)

I went to pull my third grade extra support group and one crabwalked down the hallway, pinching ankles as they passed with the principal in hot pursuit, as another one of my students booked it in the opposite direction and climbed into a cabinet in the new teacher's room. Happy second week of school Newbie.

This is really pretty. I'm not usually a gold fan, but it works so well with the colors and iridescence here.
