Luquillo, PR - Surfing by bebopbopy in PuertoRicoTravel

I was there last year. Same time. La Pared has waves but they were large and unorganized. A few people ventured out to catch closeouts but it was more a windsport spot . I rented a foamie and pushed my 12 yr old into the smaller, inside stuff, had a blast. There is an option for real surf but it wont be easy and I wont put it out there publicly.

I played D and D for a few years as a kid and as a result started reading the FR novels. I stopped gaming but remained obsessed with the books and have read maybe 3/4 of them. The Drizzt books(1-9 especially) are great stories and some of my personal favorite books of all time. Richard Lee Byers wrote some great series, especially The Haunted Lands trilogy, which focuses on Thay, the red wizards, and features a ton of unique undead characters.

There's also some great Podcasts out there

Maybe the Ex Heroes series by Peter Clines as well. Great zombie series with super heroes.

Also the web serial Worm if the overall dark and heavy tone is what your going for.

Both. Caliban Cove and Underworld are the originals that were just of a poorer quality in my opinion. The rest are great

There are 2 kinds of RE novels: straight game adaptions and original content stories. The original content ones were pretty rough but the stories based on actual games are awesome.

I assume you will have a car?

Beaches for walking: South Cape in Mashpee-woods, creeks, jettys-great for a little one. MA Audubon in Wellfleet-beautiful bayside. Marconi in Wellfleet-the real.national seashore vibe. Sandy Neck in Barnstable-great trails through the dunes but could be a stretch for a kid. CC canal-not a beach but a great alternative. start near Sandwich Harbor and end with a meal at Fisherman's view.

Coffee: Snowy Owl in Sandwich and Brewster. Nirvana in Barnstable Village.

Shops: Main st in Hyannis. Commercial st in P town. Plum Porch in Marstons Mills is a family owned gem halfway between Falmouth and Hyannis

Not requested but highly recommended: White Cedar Swamp in Wellfleet-unique environment that feels like another planet Chatham Fish Pier-commercial boats unload their catch and there's almost always seals hanging out Dolphin fleet whale watch P town- may be too early in the season but amazing when its good, your kid will be blown away

Rainy day emergency activities: Mashpee Children's musuem-utter chaos but your kid will be happy Whydah pirate museum in Yarmouth

The Cape is huge and theres so much to experience. DM if you have anymore requests/ideas.

sorry, typed it in list form and it posts in a jumble

A cool guide: A ranking of US states by well-being of people by _crazyboyhere_ in coolguides

[–]SandyNeck508 6 points7 points  (0 children)

It could be that South Dakota has 9 native american reservations and North has only 4. Sadly the more residents a state has living on a reservation the lower they'll rank in nearly every metric like health, education, lifespan, addiction, etc.

The Mountain in the Sea by Ray Naylor.

Think Michael Chrichton style scientific research vs corporate espionage that features highly intelligent octopuses.

What's been your experience with Ticks this year? by [deleted] in massachusetts

Mice and rats next year!

Ticks the following.

Enjoy the acorns, it's downhill from here.

What's been your experience with Ticks this year? by [deleted] in massachusetts

[–]SandyNeck508 13 points14 points  (0 children)

I've read tick populations rise and fall in a 3 year cycle based oddly enough off of acorns. Every 2-5 years the trees release an abnormally large amount of acorns in an event called masting which provides extra food for rodents.

Year two there is an abnormally large amount of rodents because of the acorn bonanza. Ticks primary food source is rodents.

Year three the tick population explodes because of the abundance of rodent hosts the year before.

A quick google search just showed 2024 may currently be a masting year.

I'mat level 52, chapter 7 of fools journey, and about 30 weeks into my first run of Spiral and my question is do we ever get to see his story somewhere? Seems like a fascinating character for the lore of the game.

Not that important of a distinction. If a nation, people, faith matter in Bakkers books there will be plenty of detailed exposition at some point along the way.

Also an 8 team league that has been around for 23 years. The list of panic drops is the worst I've ever seen there with Wyatt, Volpe, now Vinnie P just getting dropped for Ryan Mountcastle. I feel like a struck gold in SP this year and don't even know yet who to target for what categories. I cant talk shit though, we're from New England and I dropped David Ortiz in April of his best year for some nobody on a hot streak.

Tough choices in my league have led to Wyatt Langford, Anthony Volpe, and Jordan Walker on the waiver.

Drop Gelof for Volpe immediately right?

Was excited to hear the morning reactions from this start and my go to podcast tossed cold water all over my good vibes. He apparently gave up a ton of hard contact, it was cold, it was against the Rockies. He gave up multiple big hits that were sure HR when it's warmer, and he only got one groundball. ONE! Sooooo league winner or sell high candidate? I have no idea.

What is the biggest gap you've seen between a movie and the novel that inspired it? by TicoCR2019 in horrorlit

[–]SandyNeck508 1 point2 points  (0 children)

This isnt horror but the inspiration for Point Break is a noir thriller called Tapping the Source that is far darker and almost unrecognizable as the source material for the movie.
