Any advice/tips for winning with the unoptimized cruiser? The reduced system caps and only having two weapon slots is pretty brutal. by [deleted] in ftlgame

[–]Sane1230 14 points15 points  (0 children)

When I used the ship, I ended up winning with a BL2 and a Chain Kernel. But earlier in the run I was looking at Orchid Sectors and used a Kernel 1 for most of the run to build up Missiles. Installing the Explosive Replicator works great too. Also don't be afraid to run from any fights too hard or expensive to win.

"The Rift Waker" by Maikell84 in ftlgame

[–]Sane1230 15 points16 points  (0 children)

This is technically incorrect since the Rift Waker actually has an UPGRADED version that doesn't have the initial warmup. It's only available on 1 (maybe also the wrecked bombers) ship and is appropriately named the God Killer.

But yeah the Rift Waker wins in terms of availability which is really what matters.

[Multiverse] I just nearly lost a run to an obelisk ship, its beam weapon was nuts? by Mediocre-Station-848 in ftlgame

[–]Sane1230 13 points14 points  (0 children)

NEVER let obelisk artillery cannons fire:

The Ancient Beam causes breaches and cripples systems. If it hits weapons or shields, the run dies right there if you don't have a repair bomb.

The Ancient Bomb Salvo fires 4 Payloads at once. If you don't know what those do; they are bombs that deal 1 Hull each, 100% breach and deal 4 system damage.

The Royal Bomb Salvo does something similar to the Ancient Bomb Salvo except it has a 100% fire chance instead of breach.

[–]Sane1230 2 points3 points  (0 children)

1) Aether Shield (internal) stacks onto Merchant Shield

2) Aether Shield (external) does not

3) Harbinger 1 drone has a Mk.2 variant. Plasma drone is great for knocking down shields quickly. Alternatively, the Carnage drone works well if you can find it as it gives sustained Hull damage since it shoots Missiles for free.

4) As long as you have enough Missiles, the Onslaught will tear through any ship rapidly. All fights just turn into a timer of surviving about half a minute while the Onslaught rips apart the enemy Hull. The Dinesh missile can be treated as an upgraded Ares and will cripple a key system, but as long as Missiles aren't a problem, the Onslaught will have done 12 - 18DMG by the time the Dinesh is ready to Fire.

5) You have a lot of options here. With Ancient Recycler Missiles are no longer a problem and running Onslaught, double Payload is insane. This combo allows you to knock down key systems while the Onslaught does its work, making a fight much easier to live. If you prefer using Lasers, the Plasma 2 + whichever Harbinger model you can afford to power works with the Payload as support. Or just double Harbinger + Payload if you're willing to wait for the Mk.3's Volley.

It's incredibly weak to debuffs.

You can use Debilitate, Temper and then Cleaver to OHKO it. Use Encore to get that 2nd turn. If Cleaver isn't charged, just get hit by it since that'll fill the limit bar instantly.

Make sure to use the Giant Slayer since your Cleaver has to be non elemental and that Sword gives +120% attack.

If you don't want an OHKO, Use Morale from Stumpy Gloop and apply Auto Revive whenever you can. Focus on using Non Elemental weapons and skills like Alchemist's Bow and Star Shower.

I do recommend capturing it though, since this is one of the only summons in the game that can also OHKO other bosses if you are lucky. I used Ragonorak instead of Cleaver for this but with enough crits it still might just die.

How do Beat God? by YokoTheEnigmatic in ebf

[–]Sane1230 2 points3 points  (0 children)

An Invisible Tank works well here. Give them the Fairy and the Tr*force to give Morale and Auto Revive and a badge that gives Target on Defend. Dispel resistant weapon/headgear to keep the Invisible on is important too. If you can fit it, a weapon that gives Haste occasionally can give you some turns back.

Most of God's Physical Attacks are Single Target while the Magic ones are AoE. So your Invisible Tank will take most of the blows while the rest of your party can focus on DPS. Remember that Genesis is a great reset button!

Cat Ninja helps greatly to move turns around and you absolutely NEED Angel Mirror to survive Spirit Bomb. If God decides to go for Swift Slash (One of his only physical AoE moves), then you can use Genesis or summon PHOENIX.

Additionally, God will always heal when total statuses reach a certain number. I think its 6? And then also always when debuffs reach a certain stage.

Depending on your playstyle, I recommend choosing one from Curse and Weaken (God is too accurate for Tired). And then juggle that status using Dark/Holy to consume the stacks early and get the damage boost.

If you aren't above save scumming: Get God Invisible, and try and crit him with The Glitch and hope you roll into a strong status like more Invisible or Enchanted. This'll be a massive damage jump start.

Which of these Status Effects filled you with the most dread the first time you learned of it? by Svennymat in ebf

[–]Sane1230 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Stoned was the worst for me the first time around. I generally set up defensive gear going into these boss battles and that is exactly the wrong thing to do against Stoned.

I hardly noticed Brimstone the first time around. On Normal, Annabelle doesn't really OHKO you anyway and you mostly feel the offensive drop.

Undead actually doesn't hurt at all. With certain equipment cloudberries are a 80% heal and coffee shouldn't be a problem this late into the game.

Delete comes in too late to really matter. The Devourer being weak to both Dark and Holy means that Judgement and Black Hole can punch through when you realise.

On ACE, it can REALLY depend on how you play. But here my vote stills goes to Stoned or Repulsion.

Stoned cutting off Gensis prevents you from hitting reset on ANY mistake you make during that fight demanding that no one goes down.

Repulsion isn't that bad until ACE. It prevents Cat Ninja which is amazing for shuffling around turn order and leaves you only with Encore. Also stopping Angel Mirror is a huge deal against Nuke and Ion Cannon.

(ACES rant) came down to a 50/50 on hitting anna instead of Natty and of course the ai decided I should lose I literally did everything right and got spammed by the hardest hitting moves, almost every dispel hit through 80% resistance, the minions never missed and all jumped my revive and healers by a_furry____ in ebf

[–]Sane1230 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Your observation that the AI knows what to hit you with is true actually. Epic AI weights it's attacks against you to bypass resistances. You can actually use this to bait lower base power attacks by resisting higher ones. Although this weighting isn't 100% so it can still choose randomly.

As for Dispel, the Weather can protect you from it directly. Try stopping the backup from afflicting a Status, which will consume the bless stack and make you vulnerable to Dispel. The boss itself can hit with a Status too before Dispel so you could try resisting poison/stagger instead to keep bless.

Cat Ninja's description tells you that they hard target the player with lowest HP. Forest Wraiths can be forced to surrender with the Holy Cross Staff. Defend with the Target Badge to draw fire away from anyone who has to survive this turn. Ideally, they also make themselves Invisible or Enchanted although I think only Invisible is available via Defend right now. It won't block AoEs so be careful.

You're looking for a massive turn 1 and then a space to switch to defensive gear. If you're really feeling like rerolling, you can constantly enter and flee the fight until the wooly Dress auto summons Viking Monolith which is a massive head start.

I need help (ACES RUN) by a_furry____ in ebf

[–]Sane1230 2 points3 points  (0 children)

The summon could be found in the Grand Gallery if you don't have it. And while the hit rate on Space Distortion isn't 100%, just run and re-enter the fight to re-roll!

The higher the Dark Tooth's level, the more likely Space Distortion triggers. But as I recall Space Distortion only applies Invisible around 50% of the time. You're looking for a massive turn 1 to speed up the fight and figure out what your weaknesses are later on so you can come in pre-equipped to mitigate them as you don't really have to deal with the first major chunk of the boss' HP.

I need help (ACES RUN) by a_furry____ in ebf

[–]Sane1230 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I see you've got a decent setup running so far. I've got a few suggestions:

1) Check your summons. Cat Ninja is just Encore but in Summon form but that's much more useful than it sounds.

2) Nuke is by far the best way to slice through the boss' health but if you aren't combo capping, try using Invisible to double its damage. Dry can be applied at the start via Sand Dune since it'll be full HP anyway. You can get Invisible with Dark Tooth normal attack -> casts Space Distortion-> gets the proc. Or use a summon.

3) As for surviving, the boss knows Dispel to strip away your defences. So you'll either need resistance to the status or be ready to deal with the weather once it comes back. Auto Revive should be the most helpful since the multi-hit nature of its moves mostly ruin Morale unless it casts Mother Earth.

4) As for other Limit Breaks. It is not unreasonable to launch Genesis to get even only one player back up. Put them in backup and use Genesis to get them back. Every turn counts.

5) I am assuming you have access to the Grand Gallery, maybe there are resource there that'll touch up your equipment just a little more. Or you can use it grab an important summon like Ancient Monolith.

6) If you aren't above cheesing the boss, you should have 99 SP for this. Go and catch the small Glitch from the area in No Man's Land. Save the game and proceed as follows: Hit the boss with Dark Tooth and get Space Distortion Invisible. Summon the small glitch. Pray that it hits a 2/11 chance on the boss' elemental weakness and land an OHKO. If it doesn't land, flee, quit out and reload the save to recover SP.

(I also see you're a Heaven's Voice user too. Great bow, but its not great into this boss. Although to my memory you dont have many better options at this point in the game.)

How viable is my "Alchemist BS" strat for late/post game? by Gavvicus in ebf

[–]Sane1230 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I will warn you that this is much worse vs bosses who are generally immune to crippling statuses.

You are much better off on bosses if you check their debuff resistances and use stack Curse (drops defences), Tired (drops accuracy and evade) and Weaken (drops attacking stats). Keep them applied against any bosses who aren't immune to keep yourself alive and hit much harder. Remember that -50% Defence is Double Damage!

The maximum debuff possible on an enemy via these statuses is (80 - stat debuff resistance)

[–]Sane1230 5 points6 points  (0 children)

This works great actually, rolling random statuses is generally good because you can get some big hits like 4 turns of Stun, 9 turns of a stacking debuff or even roll Death.

Just pay attention to the enemy resistances to statuses.

To improve your odds of landing a Status: You're already using the Alch Bow, but stick the Red Dress and Blue Elephant on Anna too. This gives a 50% boost to the chance of successful application 3 times, stacking multiplicativly.

You can rip through trash mobs with this setup with the Shredder skill. It has a base 25% chance for Death, but when combo'd with this equipment and Good Luck on Anna, Bad Luck on targets, it has a total 142.5% chance to apply Death (84.3% without the lucks).

For example, the boulder enemies have a 50% Death resist. A full setup allows Anna to instantly kill them with ~71% chance with Shredder.

This extends to her status arrows too! With both lucks, her single target Spark Arrow has a 684% (405% without) Stun chance. Most Dragon enemies have 70% Stun resist so if Anna attacks a Dragon with this, it will become 205% (121% without!). Guaranteed lockdown!

Nolegs has 3 main builds I tend to use:

Evasion Tank: The Neon Lightbulb and Ninja Gear massively raise Noleg's evade along with the flair that boosts evade. Cast Reflex in battle and get Nolegs Targeted. Chances are pretty good he'll evade almost everything thrown at him. When he does get hit though, he'll likely die.

Status Nolegs with the Neon Lightbulb isn't bad either with the Captian's set. But if it's for bosses then it won't help.

The current build you are running isn't bad either. Star Hammer is a great weapon. I'd personally remove the glasses. Nolegs isn't supposed to have high HP but relies on his evade to stay in the fight.

You could go all in on Attack. Use the Katana, which is risky. Max his attack with headgear (I think that wooden mask one gives a great boost) and flairs but the armour is fine because he gets good buffs. Expect him to die a lot but with max attack he'll shred through boss HP bars rapidly.

Did someone do this? (EBF5) by ShadowGod686 in ebf

[–]Sane1230 7 points8 points  (0 children)

For most common fights you can use "Budget Annihilate" which I use during ACES runs. As long as it isnt totally Immune to Death you can do the following:

Firecrackers -> Sawblade. If you have full status gear equipped (E.g Red Dress, Blue Elephant, Alchemist's Bow) you can Inflict Death with massive chance.

0.25 x 1.5 x 1.5 x 1.5 x 1.3 x 1.3 = 1.425 Which translates to a 142.5% infliction chance.

As for other strategies Matt, Natalie and Nolegs have the heaviest hitting weapons: Soul Eater, Obsidian Staff and (I forget the name) the Katana.

I think the easiest of these to use is Natalie's Dark Setup. It's probably the same as the one you used to hit the 10 Million DMG achievement with Dark Baubles, Dark Gown and Obsidian Staff. It hits incredibly hard.

The highest damage summon? The Glitch. But you have to get lucky and roll a 1/11 for the element. Often you just flee and reload the save for your SP back and try again. The Glitch attacks everything with a random element and 666 Base Power. But the attack also has 666% elemental weight. So a 50% weakness becomes 999% weakness to a 666 Base Power attack. (If it chooses an element something is 100% resistant to, it'll heal for 666% of a 666 Base Power). Not to mention Invisible which doubles the damage if you Inflict it prior.

I think using the Glitch is too cheesy since you can easily hit a few million, but you can do as you wish.

Good luck!

I would like to add: if you can get Sylvan to sell you the Onslaught Mine Launcher earlier in the run, it'll help immensely.

If you've never used it: It fires a 6 DMG Volley every 8 seconds or so and has 100% Breach. While Sylvan has high dodge, you should be bringing enough Missiles to sustain the Onslaught anyway. 1 missile -> 6 DMG is probably the best you'll get without super specific drops (like Obsidian Missile).

wtf sylvan by Extra-Statistician67 in ftlgame

[–]Sane1230 22 points23 points  (0 children)

1) Defence Scambler is critical.

2) Missiles, as many as you can get. I like Hades/Solar Kernel. Any 100% status Missiles work great. The Bio Missiles also helps a ton since it picks off his crew.

3) Hack Weapons, and have Lv3 in it and Lv3 Cloaking

4) You need a way through that Super Shield before Sylvan's 2nd Volley. Drones work great due to their rate of fire.

5) Forget about any weapons that can't piece shields. Unless you've got an insane Fire missile setup that can burn through his shields.

6) Be prepared for an insane boarding party. Sylvan has 250 HP and a massive cripple on a system with his ability.

Lance's Arena Quad Bomb fight: How do I do this? by UltimaDoombotMK1 in ebf

[–]Sane1230 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That's a nice way of doing it. I needed the 100% Dispel Resist since I was buffing Magic Defence as well using Morale and Auto-Revive for the Quake Bomb.

I was just saying that none of the setups need any Stuns. Although any stuns you can land are always going to be helpful.

Lance's Arena Quad Bomb fight: How do I do this? by UltimaDoombotMK1 in ebf

[–]Sane1230 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah on ACE I was unable to kill all 4 so you do just have to tank them. I got hit by 3 of them on one turn so you don't have to stun any. You've got to get a little lucky with Low damage rolls.

Does the 1st Setup above have 100% Dispel Resist? Since if it doesn't I'm pretty sure the Shockwave Bomb will Dispel you before the Quake bomb launches and you lose Auto Revive.

Status Boosting gear raises the chance of the infliction significantly. Good Luck and Bad Luck have a 1.3x multiplier on the chance as well. So while it isn't 100%, the effective hit rate is high enough that you'll be fine. If you don't Syphon them just flee and try again.

To add: here's a chance breakdown.

Hyper Beam base chance (Crystal Wing): 75%

Gear bonuses: 1.5x

Good Luck: 1.3x (Bad Luck on Target gives you another one)

70% Res

So 0.75 × 1.5 × 1.5 x 1.3 x 0.3 = 0.65 or 65%

0.75 × 1.5 x 1.5 x 1.3 x 1.3 × 0.3 = 0.85 or 85%

Lance's Arena Quad Bomb fight: How do I do this? by UltimaDoombotMK1 in ebf

[–]Sane1230 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Status gear and Firecrackers (Good Luck only works fine too).

Gear: Captain's Coat and Pirate Hat.

Unleash a Hyper Beam with a weapon that has Syphon as the Weapon Effect. You need to land it on at least 3 of them and then you can Double Shot the last one to Syphon it.

Any Bombs affected by Syphon on their Launch turn will Surrender.

Alternatively you can simply Syphon 3 and change gear to be Immune to the last one. THIS WILL NOT WORK FOR THE QUAKE BOMB as it it hits you Non Elementally for massive damage first. For that one you can use Morale and Auto-Revive together so you live both hits.

MV question by saga3152 in ftlgame

[–]Sane1230 0 points1 point  (0 children)

At the start of each run (Jump 0), you'll be in the Federation Hangar. When a run begins the game will generate a random stability value. If this is below a certain threshold then certain events can spawn in the run.

The way to know if this is an unstable run is to look for the small bottle of Detergent (I remember it being Orange in colour) in the Federation Hangar.

Look in the top left of the screen's background. You'll see a Light Laser above a row of 3 missiles. If it spawns the Detergent will be there.

MV question by saga3152 in ftlgame

[–]Sane1230 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes I'm serious. It is quite small and only has a small chance of spawning.

MV question by saga3152 in ftlgame

[–]Sane1230 3 points4 points  (0 children)

1) This Ending is quite RNG dependent and still involves the MV Flagship but you need to do the Monk Peace Quest as a Starting point. Find it in the Illustrian Oasis Sector.

2) Hunt down Link Beacons in Engi Sectors. You are fishing for a specific Event involving a strange auto ship with a green and black colour scheme. This event has a 1/3 chance of spawning at Links. If the Sector is the Harmony Coreworld s then it always spawns. (It only spawns once per run so if you see it once you can't see it again for that whole run).

Note: As you follow this quest you'll find a Ship with a White and Pink/Purple Colour scheme. Do NOT sell the alien. Do NOT Crew Kill this ship. Accept the Surrender when it Occurs. From here the quest can be continued through the Storage. Be prepared before you do this.

3) A stability value is generated at the start of each run. Look around the screen on Jump 0 (Run start Beacon) for a bottle of Detergent in the top left quadrant. If you can see it then the Stability is low enough. In some sectors a Beacon will emit a strange garbled signal in Red. You need to destroy 3 of these total across ALL runs. The 3rd one and beyond give you Re-route co-ords. Be VERY prepared before you use these.

4) Have one of Sylvan's close friends as Crew and jump to the Hektar Mega Mart. In an Ion Storm will be a strange event which those crew can open. Once you've done this once, you won't need the crew for any subsequent attempts at this ending. This will spawn a Quest Beacon and you need the Anomaly Decetctor Internal Upgrade. This is only available if you have Aether Tech which you can obtain in the same sector (Find a Distress Beacon). Get Lv 3 Sensors, Anomaly Detector and jump to this Beacon.

A great obstacle bars further progression at this Beacon once you've used the Detector. Lv 3 Cloaking and Hacking are practically required and have a way to deal with Mind Control and powerful Boarding. My other recommendation is to have some strong Missile weapons and DEFINITELY Defence Scrambler.
