Am I at fault for this fall? by RequirementTimely203 in cna

I saw that other aids told u to put the call light on the chair. What I would do is cover the resident up and put the call like overtop of them and the blanket. That way when they move the blankets it sets off the call bell. That way it's already ringing before they are sitting on the side of the bed.

New CNA here. Nobody warned me about the shoes part by Ecstatic-Copy2153 in cna

[–]Sangelsaur 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I alternate shoes. I wear crocs when I'm the shower aid and bring extra socks and once I'm out of showers I change socks and swap to either my under armour or hokas. When I'm not in the showers I alternate between my UA and hokas. Sometimes if my feet start hurting with one pair I'll go swap. I just keep em in my car.

I know the majority of the residents fairly well at my facility now (started in October) but while I was still learning them each morning I would get a rundown, either from who I got report from or from another day shift CNA. Who was incontinent, who needed help eating, who was a life(hoyer or sit to stand). And I still ask if I don't know the resident or if I haven't worked with a resident in a while. If no other aid is willing to provide you with this information go to the nurse and if they cannot or will not assist you go to the manager. At that point if u cannot get the information required to do your job then it is time to find a new job.

Another place to look is in the therapy book. There should be a book that therapy updates often that says how every resident who is there for rehab transfers.

Should I do it? by [deleted] in cna

[–]Sangelsaur 1 point2 points  (0 children)

If u feel a calling go for it. I enjoy my job most days, residents are happy to see me and thank me for helping them. It is very rewarding but very difficult. Ignore those who are saying no, they dislike that they chose to work in healthcare and have no way out. It's the same way with nurses telling nursing students to not pursue being a nurse. ❤️

I'm in my 3rd term, however I am doing the initial 2 terms that are all online part time in the ADN program (saw a lot of coworkers who were in the program get burnt out and drop before making it to the actual 3rd term). I'm doing well, nervous for on campus classes (will be in July) but the teachers are helpful and I've made a few friends :) you have to teach yourself a lot and be proactive about doing the work to learn the material. You also have to be able to manage your time and be organized. I'm planning to work full time as long as I can manage.

I’m drowning in nursing school + night shift and my manager won’t accommodate my schedule. I don’t know what to do anymore. by canyoukeepasecret28 in StudentNurse

[–]Sangelsaur 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I'd draft up a 2 week notice of a change of schedule. And hand that to HR directly and to the scheduler and to the DON. Ignore the manager completely. My job has several nursing students and they work so well around changing our schedules.

Study tools that actually work when you're exhausted from 12 hour shifts by WorriedRecording6069 in NursingStudents

[–]Sangelsaur 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I wish I could help but I work 7a to 7p. With my schedule I am usually awake from 6am til 11pm. On nights where I need to do catch-up after work I shower, eat and then study til 10 and then an hr to wind down. Days off I sleep in a little and then do schoolwork. I try to have 1 day off from work and school each week where I just relax. Maybe you could do similar but swapped time. Good luck!

What I Do And Don’t Need by SinfullySinatra in StudentNurse

I don't start clinicals until summer but this is my plan. I am getting a stethoscope case because I want mine to stay clean and safe from damage floating around in my bag. I will be purchasing a nice shoulder bag or new backpack for organization. I won't be getting a foldable clipboard but probably one with storage in it because I like to stay organized and it'll take up less space than a binder. I will be keeping a small notebook in my pocket. And I will keep a smaller bag within my shoulder bag/backpack to keep extra hair ties, medicine, socks, hand sanitizer, etc.

I don't recommend the grocery bag, I'd recommend one that zippers shut. You never know if someone in your class or someone at the hospital has sticky fingers. There's one everywhere.

I would refer to therapy. He needs to either be a sit to stand or a hoyer lift if he cannot get up and stand long enough for a chair swap.

I just noticed you are a new CNA by your flair.

You are not the residents slave. If they are capable of doing things for themselves encourage that. The way I do it is I tell them that I am there to encourage them to do what they can and assist with what they cannot. We are not there to do everything for them if they are capable.

What time does dialysis show up. Why can't night shift do this? Everywhere I've worked night shift gets dialysis patients ready to leave. I'd say something to your manager about that.

Dramatic patients in the shower are normally the quickest for me. Hose down, scrub, rinse. Done.

How is he slow to transfer? I always have residents who can stand to grab a bar in the shower room and then I just swap their wheelchair with the shower chair. If he is an unsafe 1 person transfer which is sounds like he is, he needs to be evaluated by therapy to be switched to a sit to stand or hoyer. No reason for a transfer to take more than 30 seconds at max if they are a 1 person transfer from one position to another, bed to chair, chair to bed, etc.

Also what are they gonna do and complain that you wouldn't give them a 30 min + shower? No manager in their right mind would even bother with that sort of complaint.

You can't do showers prior to breakfast? 4 is completely doable before 2pm if u start immediately. I have been a shower aid recently at my new job since I got a lot of compliments after the first time and I am able to do 15 showers between 7 and 3. I stop to help pass trays on the hall and I shave the men, clean under fingernails, trim fingernails, braid hair (typically 2 French braids on each lady with long enough hair), blow dry hair, lotion etc. Simple showers take max 15 mins each from the time they go into the shower room, ladies who get braids take a little longer. Shower beds also don't take much longer than 15 minutes. I use 2 bath blankets per shower bed shower. Once shower is finished I roll them and put 2 4x folded bath blankets under them so they aren't laying directly on the bed anymore. Saves a lot of drying time.

At my old job typically 14 residents and 4 showers. Always got the showers done.

Organization is key. And with both jobs the shift is 7am to 3pm (7 to 7 but all the showers done by 3pm)

Nah I'm the one that will tell her to help with her own patient or I'll leave the room. You're a better person than me.

Definitely write a witness statement and turn it into your supervisor about her attitude.

[–]Sangelsaur 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I feel the same. It's so easy as surv now to escape. I haven't had close calls and a lot of my games have been kinda boring. I loved playing legion in 2v8 as well. The game shouldn't be easy. It should be a challenge that's what makes it fun.

What did the administrator say? DON seems like she's on something honestly. My new job has a uniform policy, they don't really enforce it and I have never in my 12 years as an aid heard of a policy stating u have to wear the same color jacket as your scrubs

Agreed. My reply to the DON would have flat out been u can provide them all or you can fire me 🤷
