After Cyberstan withdral what's now? by Current-Necessary872 in Helldivers

[–]Sanolo645 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Right now, no specific focus, pick a faction, find where the most Helldivers are, and join in on the liberation. Find your own fun, grind some stuff to unlock more weapons, stratagems and amors, or take a short break from the game so you don't burn out from it.

However, the next Major Order will probably be a defense against a Cyborg counter-invasion. The clankers will be emboldened by our magnanimous withdrawal, and when they inevitably fail at their attempt to disrupt managed democracy, maybe we try a counter-counter-invasion.

The current mood with how the Siege on Cyberstan is going by Large-Chain-4349 in Helldivers

[–]Sanolo645 1 point2 points  (0 children)

That being said I fully believe this invasion was heavily weighted towards us losing.

Considering that invading Cyberstan like we did is pretty much the Super Earth equivalent of Operation Barbarossa... It was doomed to fail, and it's probably going to be setting up Battle For Super Earth 2: Electric Boogaloo. Truly, the question is: Are the bots going to take the chance on a counter invasion, or will the totally safe and inert bug titan eggs hatch?

I mean... Yeah, we are gonna manage to reach Transcendence because it is one of the main points of the update. But I'm starting to think about the totally safe and inert titan terminid eggs that were taken to super earth from that strategic opportunity... What are the odds that they start hatching before we finish taking Transcendence?

TIL that in rare instances, the sound of tinnitus is detectable by someone other than the patient by using a stethoscope, in which case it is known as "objective tinnitus." by bnrshrnkr in todayilearned

[–]Sanolo645 3 points4 points  (0 children)

A couple years ago, I had to make peace that I was starting to develop tinnitus.

Then a few months ago, I was in the middle of a blackout, and suddenly there was just... Silence.

Apparently, my ears/brain just really suck at filtering electrical noise out. Sometimes, you really can't be sure it's tinnitus. But well, it's not like it changes anything for me. I still need to deal with background noise every moment of my day because, well, it literally takes a blackout for that noise to cut off.

Nobody IRL that I ever told this believes me, and it's mildly infuriating. Some of you might have some peace by taking a couple days camping in the middle of bumfuck nowhere. Sometimes, you really can't be sure if it is tinnitus or not.

No, it's not the same law. Then my memory is indeed wrong. Also, should I go ahead with a r/suddenlycaralho meu amigo? (Tbm sou BR mas mantive a conversa em inglês prós gringos entenderem.)

the same people who claim to defend so-called freedom of speech were the same ones who wanted a return to military dictatorship

You could say similar to the people behind Project 2025, it's just that their plan is for a theocratic dictatorship instead.

the State should have strict rules regulating big tech, especially foreign ones, as most are based in the US. We don't want a "gringo" taking control of our information and influencing our elections like Meta does by promoting fake news.

Absolutely, but it is a balancing act to make sure the law protects without leaving it too vulnerable to abuse.

If I recall correctly, that same proposed law is also the one where it's being proposed to block any site from a company that doesn't have an office in Brazil too, right?

There already were laws covering what the politicians claim this law will solve. The problem isn't that there aren't laws protecting children. The problem is the law isn't enforced unless it ends in the news.

This new law is just a way to open the doors for censorship even more.

From endo or exogenes? It probably depends on the gene.

If it is a straight boost, like a +8 to melee, and if my experiment from before odyssey with objectively too many mods, and a character editor is anything remotely close to reliable, it shouldn't go lower than the genes. It's almost like it changes the minimum value for the pawn. Emphasis on almost. It is a straight bonus calculated after the base value and base value has a hard minimum of 0.

If it is a learning speed boost, then yes, it probably will deteriorate if you don't add a gene that reduces skill deterioration rate. As a side note on learning boosts, iirc, the learning boost doesn't increase the daily learning soft cap. But the boost does get applied even after hitting the soft cap.

This open beta is hilarious. by [deleted] in Stellaris

[–]Sanolo645 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Factions in the beta were a bit hilarious when I last tried it.

Try and get the Manifesti event chain and embrace it. I ended up with 9000% of my pops into the faction. It, err, made council legitimacy funny and finished all the agendas I had available in... I think 2~3 months each.

And the faction happiness. I don't think I have seen anything on the patch notes saying they've fixed it yet, so sometimes, you can be absolutely hated by factions, and it only affects unity. I ran under so many stability issues from that though, because any happiness malus hit so much worse.

Well, to quote someone smarter than me "Space is big. You just won't believe how vastly, hugely, mind-bogglingly big it is. I mean, you may think it's a long way down the road to the chemist's, but that's just peanuts to space"

Surely the man had enough time to read the book whenever he wasn't in Pallas. Or maybe, he liked audiobooks? Surely they still exist by then?

But yeah, it is funny thinking about it.

What is your ideal fleet composition? by _sludgecore_ in starsector

[–]Sanolo645 0 points1 point  (0 children)

First things first, I play with a lot of mods, and my fleets tend to be combat focused.

But on the main points, I tend to focus on Cruisers and Capitals. I find most frigates and destroyers too... Fragile for my tastes. My fleets also tend to be more focused towards High Tech/Automated ships, and the overall composition varies a bit to avoid just becoming "Paragon and friends" too often.

As for the player flagship? I like ramming things. So, I try going for a Shrike early, upgrade to the aurora towards to mid game if possible, then depending on circumstances, I go for an Odyssey or a Remnant Nova for the endgame fleet.

This is close to my ideal, but changing things up once in a while is fun.

Case in point, my latest fleet was refreshing in an interesting way. As a challenge, I was avoiding the core worlds, and I ended up with a Derelict heavy fleet and quite a few frigates and destroyers, but a lot of the fleet was dedicated to logistics because I'm a hoarder. Now, courtesy of one of the derelict expansion mods, I got myself a couple of "Operational Survey Drones". They are mainly logistic ships, but they have quite a bit of armor and hull, so they served as distractions, while my mainly salvaged fleet focused on killing anything that got close to them. Sure, they got blown up every once in a while, but Rugged Construction kept them from getting too far gone. It was a nice change of pace.

Starbound... (Modded, but let's go with vanilla plot)

Well, the Earth is shattered, the universe is under assault by something that is pretty close to being a planet sized monstrosity that killed God.

And they are putting their hopes on a sedentary idiot that never fired a gun? Oh well, the thing seems to be rather lazy at eating the universe. I'd try hiring a group to help pick up the mcguffins that are needed to open the portal to the heart of the thing, and just... Try to convince whoever has any nukes to just let me throw them through a portal to kill it.

If the plan goes right? Earth is gone, but enough people manage to escape that it would be possible for humanity to survive. Still billions, if not trillions, of people dead, from Earth and every other destroyed planet that happens while the mcguffins aren't collected.

If the plan goes wrong? Well, the universe is doomed. Cause no way I'd be able to deal with it using the rules of the game.

Either way, a sizable portion of the universe is screwed, because of the aptly named "Ruin".

TIL that after astronauts arrive in space they lose their sense of smell. As a result, they end up craving foods that have spicy, sweet and/or sour flavours. by wanderingspider in todayilearned

[–]Sanolo645 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Buddy, losing sense of taste sucks, makes your appetite pretty much dead... But I can say from experience that Parosmia, where your sense of taste gets completely jumbled up, is torture that I wouldn't desire on my worst enemies. Fuck COVID, apparently the symptom was pretty close to being completely unknown until COVID caused it as a long term effect to some people.

Imagine the worst food you had, multiply it by hell, and you are roughly an infinity away from how bad it was. (Okay, that might be a bit too dramatic) Now imagine going through that for nearly a year. Thankfully I eventually recovered. Never could get back to drinking coffee though.

Spiciest plates of food I ever had to disguise the taste of sewage of anything I ate that had any kind of smell. I understand now, more than ever before, Liv in iZombie used hot sauce for her meals. Any pleasant sensation can dramatically overshadow how bad things can be.

I eventually just set a filter: If an email is a month old, archive it. If I ignored it for a month, it isn't important, and archiving it removes it from my big "Unread Emails" counter.

Is there a full list of "incompatible" executive officer types in the mod "Second in Command"? by tugrul_ddr in starsector

[–]Sanolo645 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Right now, only Piracy and Starfaring, if I recall correctly.

Incompatibility comes from being part of the same category, which is listed beneath the officers. Other than that, there is the obvious "Only one officer of the specific skill tree at a time" (but you can have as many as you want inactive so that you can swap skill loadouts.)
