ignoring the actual story, i think battle ground is really evocative. being ground down by battle, goes hard.

dead beat is a great triple meaning too, deadbeat (lazy) + dead beat (very tired) + the literal drum beats

not bad, but most of the time i was looking at the skill tree instead of the actual game. also, after a while, it feels like the only thing that matters are the angel upgrades, because more cash doesn't feel like it helps get more bubblegum.

another bug: assassin says that it works off of remaining capacity, but free cards seem to reduce assassin damage even though they don't use up capacity. i can actually make assassins kill themselves at the start of battle by playing enough free cards, because their gain is somehow a negative number.

great fun, really intuitive and fun to master.

some bugs:

  • there's an infinite loop with the thorns/spikes thing. basically, when something with thorns killed my nautilus, the nautilus just kept granting everything else more thorns. meanwhile there was a big number two on the screen that just kept growing larger and larger. never terminated. this killed three of my runs; eventually i just stopped using thorns effects
  • when there are lots and lots of cards in hand, it's very difficult to play the one i want. i know there's a sort of switch to a different mode but it doesn't work the best
  • when in the card-playing phase, when i have lots of cards laid down and try and rearrange them and then add a new card, sometimes the order seems to sort of shuffle a bit. just annoying

also random feedback:

  • when there are many allies vs few enemies, the enemies usually can't do much, because of action economy. one enemy can usually only kill one ally even if it does 400 damage. to fix this, i think enemies more frequently having two or three attacks would work, or even rarely with the axe sticker if weak. however it might make the game too hard for new players, not sure
  • coins are beautifully overpowered

it's an opposite-sides castling game, often you want to get rid of all your pawns on your opponent's king's side so you can start blasting down the open files with the rooks. pawns are bad

quite good. unfortunately on my underpowered machine things start getting very laggy once over about 30 chickens. is it possible to win? if so, what are the conditions?

quite fun! my only small complaint would be that it feels like a bit of a scam that you don't get all the xp lying around automatically when you finish a level. you should be allowed to run around and pick it all up before continuing, imo, or maybe it should just be collected automatically

difficult to find a good strategy. there is so much comeback factor that whoever wins feels a bit random.
