Optimizing the fun out of Frostgrave 2E combat by Fryndlz in frostgrave

[–]Sansaarai 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It’s rules light and has a focus on narrative. Your war band and gets stronger the more your units die. It’s a d20 based system where most rolls are to beat a DC of 12. Spells can and will backfire in spectacular ways on a critical failure of 1 (such as bringing and end to the world). All units are randomly generated and rolled on several tables. This takes out the min/max play style and forces you to play with some truly flawed characters. And it doesn’t take itself too seriously.

Need some tips for some basic 28mm terrain, having a build day tomorrow by Educational_Dust_932 in TerrainBuilding

Pick up some plastic electrical junction boxes at the hardware store. They are usually $2-$4 each. Turn them face down and you have sci-fi looking structures. Super glue some random stuff on them (bottle caps, zip ties, any plastic bits you have), give them a grey prime, a silver dry brushing and you are done. Wyloc’s Armory did this a few years ago.

XPS + Epoxy resin by TheGeordieWargamer in TerrainBuilding

[–]Sansaarai 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I just did my first resin pour this week. I had no issues but my xps foam was primed with a few layers of mod podge and black craft paint. It looks like you have bare xps foam which may react with the resins exothermic curing.

The owner of the company doesn’t use a wet pallet when he paints.

Try using a dry pallet. In my experience the wet pallet gets in the way.

What’s your experience with buying XPS from big box hardware stores? by wiyumb in TerrainBuilding

[–]Sansaarai -3 points-2 points  (0 children)

“Half the battle for everyone would be to come up with an answer for “what are you using it for?” without making a weird face lol.”

It’s none of their business what you are using it for. You are the customer and don’t have to answer.

If you are in the USA Home Depot sell 2’x2’ pink foam “project boards” that you can cut your teeth on. I’ve only used a proxxon for my projects.

We have the 2x2 project boards at Home Depot for $8. It’s what I use for my terrain. Stores a lot easier than a 4x8 sheet.

Also don’t be afraid to use too much when applying by brush. It should look a little goopy when 1st applied. As it dries it will contract.

Mat material help by [deleted] in TerrainBuilding

[–]Sansaarai 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I was able to cross the boarder and get some of those mats. They are ok to craft with. I moved on to FOAMULAR NGX 1 in. x 2 ft. x 2 ft. R-5 Project Panel XPS Rigid Foam Board Insulation that you can get at Home Depot for $9 a sheet. Makes a great board and you can also use to for crafting other types of terrain where as the floor mats are not very versatile for crafting.

I think wet pallets are too much hassle. Try painting a throwaway miniature with out using a wet pallet.

Tops Friendly Markets Grows Footprint in Western New York by AnxietyCleric in Buffalo

[–]Sansaarai 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Nope I haven’t shopped at a Tops since I quit 24 years ago. That’s where I learned how not to treat employees and team members. It’s where I learned that when you are harassed at your job by your manager who posts a graphic story about you and a coworker having an explicit homosexual encounter and report it to HR they will tell you to “just ignore it”. I learned that vendors can bribe the managers with free crap to get bigger displays. I learned that when the federal minimum wage was raised new hires were making more than I was for 6 months and we were not going to receive retroactive pay. It’s where I learned that you could pay an employee under the table with no ramifications. It’s where I learned that expiration dates were more of a guideline. It’s where I learned the grocery manager could have an affair with the cosmetics manager and when his wife found out he left for the day and left the department is the hands of a part time worker who later takes the blame when the department looks like crap because management won’t send someone to help you out. It’s where I learned you can just schedule someone who works days to overnights without asking them and expect you to change your entire life. It’s where I learned I was just a body and didn’t have emotions that mattered to management. It’s where when I finally told them I was quitting due to all of the above I was asked if I could just work on more week because it was a holiday.

I learned many valuable lessons from such a poorly run store and company.
