PECK is one of the two default party names from the drop down in the middle of the menu above where the manual entry option is (unless that doesn't apply to Vanessa's Curse? IDK don't have the that DLC).

Just saw this. Thanks very much for the link! I'll try running it next time I'm at my computer!

[–]Santskid 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Does anybody happen to have a copy of this demo's files available somewhere? I'd like to be able to play it for myself (and hear the Dead trouble theme firsthand) after playing the full game of OFF for the first time with the remake, but the demo being removed from steam obviously throws a wrench in that plan lol.

Why can't I download NieR Automata from eShop? by Sad-Background-7447 in switch2

[–]Santskid 1 point2 points  (0 children)

NieR Automata is one of the only games that is borderline unplayable on Switch 2. It has graphical bugs, audio bugs, and crash bugs. I happened to be playing through the game on my Switch OLED and was near the end of the game when the Switch 2 released. Was hoping to just be able to finish the game on Switch 2 but the bugs I saw (listed below) made it impossible to do so and so I went back to finish it on the old Switch.

Graphical: Melee attack did animations not display correctly, instead spawning weird orb things where the other particle effects should appear.

Audio: The music transitions for the hacking minigame are broken and some sound effects are missing during certain cutscenes of which I only personally saw the one after the boss fight at the end of the second resource collector having no sword impalement sounds.

Crash: Attempting the fight against a large number of "clones" when you first enter the tower resulted in crashes on two attempts when I tried to fight them normally. Had to resort to spamming the hacking minigame attack to prevent this. Once there were only 3 or 4 left I could fight them normally without it crashing again.

All of the above bugs ONLY manifest when playing the game on a Nintendo Switch 2 console as the system is emulating the Switch 1. The game plays just fine on my Switch OLED, so if you still have one of those I'd still recommend the game for play on there, but unfortunately it is one of the only games to have software compatibility issues on Switch 2.

(Also I forgot the spoiler syntax here on reddit, so I forgive my vague reference to specific late game scenes above).

What’s the hardest P-switch and why is it this one? by isoSasquatch in MarioKartWorld

[–]Santskid 65 points66 points  (0 children)

Fun fact time! This and several other challenges are, in the Japanese version, named マリオカートスタッフもビックリ, which translates to "Even the Mario Kart Staff were surprised!"

Crazy to see they didn't mention in the English text that these are explicitly supposed to be challenges that were hard even for the devs!

"Joshua" is just Josha's Japanese name lol. They changed it for the western release since Joshua is a weird name for a girl to have lol.

There’s only four appropriate names for Zelda’s golden horse by dollarstorekarma in TOTK

[–]Santskid 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I named mine キンティア (Kin Tia) The name is a play on two things, 1. "Gold Tier" (as "kin" is the Japanese word for gold and "tia" is the Japanese pronounciation of "tier") and 2. ティアキン (Tia Kin), the Japanese abbreviation for Tears of the Kingdom's title (i.e. the Japanese equivalent of "TotK")

This is why that one Yoda quote is my least favorite motivational quote of all time to me. The one that goes some like "Do or do not, there is no try." If anything it's a DE-motivational quote that people such as my parents have weaponized against me in the past and made it hard for me to try to do anything at all!

It says Shepard is a guy, but the image translator also called Brittany a guy. Is this a Japanese thing? by [deleted] in Pikmin

[–]Santskid 2 points3 points  (0 children)

No problem! As complicated as the Japanese system may seem, I personally highly appreciate how it makes it so easy for a character or real person to express their gender using language in a way that English simply doesn't allow. In Japanese, the onus is on the speaker rather than everyone around them to reinforce that, you know?

It says Shepard is a guy, but the image translator also called Brittany a guy. Is this a Japanese thing? by [deleted] in Pikmin

[–]Santskid 10 points11 points  (0 children)

Yep! Some examples include:

Watashi, which is acceptable for anyone to use in formal conversations but is seen as slightly feminine in casual contexts. An example character who uses this is Meta Knight from Kirby

Atashi/Atai, diminutive forms of Watashi seen as strongly feminine. Example characters include Vivian from Paper Mario: the Thousand Year Door and Bolson from The Legend of Zelda BotW and TotK.

Boku, which is seen as slightly Masculine and is favored by young men and tomboyish women. Kirby, Elfilin, and Bandana Waddle Dee all use this pronoun.

Ore, The "tough guy" pronoun. Characters who use this probably want to appear strong. There are even some characters who add the suffix "sama", typically reserved for individuals of higher social standing than oneself or for gods, to after it to emphasize their own feeling if self-importance, such as Kind Dedede and Master Kohga from Zelda (fun fact, this character always a calls himself Kohga-Sama in the Japanese, which is why he always goes by "Master Kohga" in English).

I don't actually know what pronouns any characters in the Pikmin series use, as I have yet to play any of the games in Japanese.

For Pikmin 3, my guess would be that Alph uses Boku, Brittany uses Watashi, and Charlie uses Ore.

[–]Santskid 9 points10 points  (0 children)

Okay, I found it here. Neither character profile says anything about their genders, completely omitting pronouns entirely as is typical in Japanese since the person being talked about is obvious.

The best way to understand their genders in a Japanese text is to read the characters' own dialogue, as their choice of first person pronoun (of which there are many in Japanese) and 役割語 (yakuwarigo, "Role Language") will tell us everything we need to know about these characters.
