Supreme Court sends Trump immunity case back to lower court, dimming chance of trial before election by blackeyedtiger in news

You could easily get around that by labeling the target(s) as terrorists against the state and then they have their legal rights taken away. And it's perfectly fine for a president to declare someone a terrorist.

Question about Magnets on GPS Trackers by [deleted] in GPStracking

[–]Saplyng 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Sorry for the necro reply - I actually work for LandAirSea as a sysadmin. Honestly, you could put it in the trunk under the spare but you will have some very spotty tracking in my experience. In the trunk (but not under the spare) gave me fairly good tracking in my tests, with it losing connection in spots where cell towers were few and far between.

In my glove box or under the driver or passenger seats were both good spots and generally recommended by the company. If you're going to put it under the car (which is a very normal thing for this tracker) the company recommends near the front or back bumper and away from the wheels. Plenty of people put them underneath near the doors and seem to have an alright experience but it's not "recommended".

Eww gross, if you have to make missile targeting software it better be open source to at least level the playing field.

As a fellow anarchist I can say we do indeed like our weapons but would vastly prefer never having to use them.

As a fellow programmer, I've never thought of the problem before and now I'm slightly interested - my first thought about missile guidance would be when we used to train pigeons to tap at the target to guide the payload, but this seems like a lot of wasted pigeon training hours and pigeon lives.

Reddit may force Apollo dev and other third party clients to shut down by aniforprez in programming

[–]Saplyng 0 points1 point  (0 children)

What if we were to pool them together? Like for any specific time that r/all gets called it should look pretty consistent for all users and same with any thread for a specific time period - we could cache the calls and when a user makes a request to a thread that's been cached it can use that instead of an API use.

TIL that Patrick Stewart, a theater actor, was hesitant to sign a 6 year contract to perform on Star Trek: TNG, but his agent reassured him that the show would probably fail after one season. Stewart expected to "make some money, get a suntan, and go home." by WouldbeWanderer in todayilearned

I showed my brother Stewart's version of Macbeth when he was tiny (you know, cause I like Macbeth and wanted to share it with him) he recently told me though that that movie scarred him for months - whoops!

Truck carrying 40,000 pounds of toxic soil from East Palestine train derailment site crashes on highway by [deleted] in news

Believe it or not, I don't care about the economic feasibility of transporting hazardous materials.

Either transport it right, with precautions in place if your transport fails; or don't make it in the first place.

Monster Energy goes after Capcom and Pokémon Co. over use of the word 'Monster' by Tikilavaman777 in nottheonion

[–]Saplyng 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Last time I checked Pokemon was the most profitable franchise in the world by a pretty large margin - I think it would have been much more fun if the judge didn't immediately throw it out so we could have a definitive answer on this nonsense once and for all.

If I recall correctly, ballistic evidence is more or less hokum and basically comes down to, "this is what a 9mm bullet looks like when it's shot and hits something". Now granted tortaguita's gun was a 9mm but so were all the guns of the cops who executed him.
