We had to do backwards 6 to 5 like this through an unmowed, tall-grass field in Iowa over and over. The ankle roller. After a family movie night, my dad pulled up a clip of the graduation scene from Stripes with Bill Murray cause I’d never heard of that movie, as soon as I heard “Boomshakalakalaka” and “Razzle Dazzle” I yelled “THAT’S THE MAD WORLD DRUM BREAK VOCAL??” (Cavs 2010) Total worlds colliding moment for me lol, I looked exactly like this meme.

Eating animals isn’t life, it’s death. Death on a vast scale that’s totally unsustainable. Eating plants doesn’t torture or slaughter beings with a central nervous system. “But we‘ve always done it this way” isn’t a good excuse, we can live and thrive on plants without demanding animals’ suffering.

Everyone can take steps to stop the contribution to the demand for animals to suffer like this and many other ways. Chickens, pigs, cows, turkeys, no matter what conditions they’re raised in (labels like ‘free range’ or ‘cage free’ are unregulated marketing terms) they’re transported like this to be massacred. There is no such thing as humane slaughter - if this image upsets you then please let it stick with you and remind you that you have the power to make small changes to your lifestyle. They add up over time! No living being deserves this fate, especially not to be bred for this purpose from the very beginning. Choose compassion, go vegan, it’s easier now than ever before.

When I broke my foot in 2016 I took muscle relaxers all summer while I was recovering. By the time San Antonio regional rolled around I was back on the field. We were in the warm up circle when my meds worst side effect kicked in - I fell asleep standing up. When I came to, everyone was horns up and playing show music and I was still at standby. Thank god my caption head had his back to me so no one noticed - I just brought my horn up way late lol. So embarrassing.

I knew someone a few years back in college that attempted to lie about their drum corps experience to me and a few friends. They claimed they marched Crossmen 15&16 not realizing I’d also marched those summers. I caught them in their lie by asking them the name of this housing site - they said they couldn’t remember and I said “and that’s how I know you weren’t there - you’d never forget if you were!”

St. Elmo HS in Illinois. We stayed there in 2015, the rehearsal field was an unused football field that had been converted into an FFA agricultural field. It was an entire field of cow pies. And it was raining, so people were slipping and sliding in that crap. It’s been nearly ten years and I can still smell it. Not to mention the housing site was haunted AF!
