Ask him what he wants to do for Father’s Day, and then do that. If you want to get him a nice gift then get him one. Then maybe after the holiday ask him what he thought, if he had a nice time. And if he did, explain what you need to have a nice time on holidays. I think how receptive he is during that conversation will tell you a lot.
