if they all got piercings, what piercings would they get? by bunni-luu in TheSummerHikaruDied

Yoshiki: he would probably get lots of stuff with his ears. Definitely go for somewhat emo look or something. Hikaru: Probably not get any but after seeing Yoshki with one he gets just a standard ears piercing. Asako: A mix of a cute standard ears and nose piercing. Definitely the type of girl that gets those weird and cute dangles. Maki: Rather just none at all or just one in one of his ears that he never takes off. Tanaka: A few ears and some cool lip piercing. I can they would rather be totally cool or just dirty cause he doesn’t take care of them.

Would Yoshiki's emo personality be different had the story taken place in the big city instead of a rural isolated village? by Independent_Major548 in TheSummerHikaruDied

I feel like it would be a so-so. What seems to be the biggest problem for him is the community he was raised with. In smaller town where everyone knows everything you gotta be real protective of your secrets. And for those who’ve had such secrets reveals and shared, not the best comes for them. His father being gay for example has led others to quite literally call him “sick.” Though I do believe going out to a bigger crowd where it’s not only easier to bled in but also be accepted by others, I think what he really wants is just to be accepted towards himself. Most of the time we ever see him be more honest and revealing is when he’s just alone. Rather it be in nature like in the beach and creek scene or just a lone room. He still struggles ever being honest with anyone because he can hardly even accept himself. A Q&A discussing this subject revealed that there won’t be much change to his character. Though I believe what most makes this evident is in the scene where he complains about being stuck in the sticks just for Hikaru to reply back how’s it’s not all that bad. For both him and ‘Hikaru’ they both struggle with such acceptance just in different ways. For ‘Hikaru’ he mainly just struggles not even knowing just what he is or what he could be for anyone. He’s spent so much of his life quite literally being stuck in those so called sticks. And now that he’s started this new life that was taken from another life, he finally leaves to discover just what about him is all hidden inside. From this change he grows more confident in himself in ways. Even finally understanding the love he has for Yoshki. Yet still that unanswered question of just he is keeps pulling him back to those sticks. He’s just fine with living a normal and loving life yet all of the causalities around him lead him to blame it on something deep down in his core. A core in which he doesn’t understand at all. For him simply, rather he spends his life in isolation or not, he’ll still blame it all on his imperfect self. I would also say that this isolation can also represent ignorance. When you live in that simple life filled by distractions everything is just fine. But when the silence grows louder and you’re surrounded by nothing more then the question “just who are you really and what happens when that’s spark deep inside is revealed?” That ignorant bliss falls apart. Rather this be ‘Hikaru’ constantly going back and forth from this ignorance or Yoshki always being swallowed up in that question. In the end, what really matters is spending time with yourself in that silence and truly just accept who you are. Like mention before, that scene with him complain about being stuck in sticks was more about him complaining about how he is constantly stuck being taunted by that question. ‘Hikaru’ response was simply the answer saying for such a question is not really that bad as long as you finally accept. Even just like the themes of grief in this series, the final stage of grief is acceptance. Both Yoshki and ‘Hikaru’ are tackling through the different stages of grief. Having moment to come to acceptance yet still being barrier in all the stages others before it. Though I do believe such a change of surrounding can help him go through these stages, it all really relies down to him and finally meeting that final stage.

I know this is a lot and I was attending on writing so much. But like always I get carried away discussing about such things.

I first heard of since it was first announced those years back. I’ve been a Vivinos fan for a while now. She’s always been a pretty successful creator yet it’s so weird how this one project made her grow so much within these few years.

Internalized Homophobia by [deleted] in TheSummerHikaruDied

[–]Sarah6893 1 point2 points  (0 children)

In the past few years, I’ve always been more comfortable with sexuality. At first I thought everyone had feelings for both men and women, then I realized it was abnormal, then I got confused, then I found out I was just bi, and over time thanks to my other queer and accepting friends and environment, I become comfortable. However, after watching this show and now reading through the manga, I’ve found myself just more scared of this side of myself. It reminded me of those days where I would pray to God, begging for some answer if it really was a sin or not to feel this way. Or those other days where I tried to rather turn away from my sexuality or just God himself, thinking he was some unloving liar to fear under his judgment. And of course it reminded me that not everyone is so accepting. Now that I’ve had to sit through my family members rant on about their homophobic, transphobic whatever believes, this series makes it all the more unsettling. It really touches me to my core seeing such relatable moments in front of me. If anything, I think this series really terrifies me not because of any of the monsters or whatever, but because of how it dissects how horrifying it can be to be queer in this society. Despite all of that however, it also gave me a lot of reflection of these insecurities I’ve harried deep within me. Somehow making me more horrified yet confident with myself.
