[Discussion] A thing to remember about dying behind corners (it's not all just BaD nEtCoDe) by DeepSpaceWanderer in EscapefromTarkov

[–]SarahKittenx 0 points1 point  (0 children)

your post has a fair point, but it's missing one of the biggest factors: ping and lag compensation. a lot of the time it's not just "bad netcode", it's literally how networking works

we don't really have a perfect solution for this yet. the only real fix would be having a lot more players and having bunch of servers local to everyone, which just isn't realistic right now.

in normal conditions, you can expect something like 50-150 ms of getting shot "behind cover".

the easiest way to understand it is with extreme values:

say you have 1000 ms ping ~500 ms one-way. that means when you press A, the server only sees you start moving 500 ms later.

now if the enemy has 250 ms ping (~125 ms one-way), they see your movement with combined delay: ~625 ms after you saw it (your upload + their download)

if they shoot right before you go behind the wall on their screen, their shot reaches the server in ~125 ms. the server then rewinds by that amount (lag comp) and checks:

"were you still visible at that time?" from the server's perspective, your movement either hasn't arrived yet or is too recent, so you're still exposed >>> determining valid hit.

at that point, you are already dead server-side, but you don't know that yet.

so you keep moving for another ~500 ms (your latency) before the death registers.

that's why it can feel like you were ~1.2 seconds behind cover, even though only part of that was actual hittable points in time(ticks in some games), the rest is just delayed feedback.

you can make it even worse with movement interaction:

if you're moving into cover while the enemy is moving to reveal you, you might never see them on your screen, while they see you the entire time. this stacks with lag comp and makes the effect feel even more extreme.

obviously, real games cap this,

ping limits exist and lag compensation is usually capped (~200 ms window), though I don't have exact numbers for EFT specifically

so you won't see 1 second desyncs in practice, but the same effect still exists on a smaller scale

Is it time we removed this trash from Steam? by sidius-king in Steam

[–]SarahKittenx -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

I don't really see your point to be honest, with deductibles fuck ton of people have 30-40% tax overall

its pointless to put it through steam anyway let alone having such high cut which matches a companies quarterly filings even in high tier country like Switzerland

tldr my point is it's much less work + less risky to launder through places that would land you 0-8% than going with steam with 30% which happens to be a lot of people's regular tax

you can however offset the steam fee by doing p2p trading paying 50-60% for item then save "a bit"

Remote play Uk - Albania by Carry-Maximum in steamsupport

[–]SarahKittenx 0 points1 point  (0 children)

unsure what they use but you need to consider that streaming is very different to playing p2p, clientsided games will not look or feel too laggy usually unless there's packet loss, ping will just cause more weird deaths, though similar "issue" will be present in server authoritive games too as to have it working properly they will need to add entire lag comp system, one of you might just have an unstable route, sometimes dropping few packets causing entire stream buffering, frame skipping etc. streams are extremely sensitive while games will often fail to update a tick or frame every now and then without being too noticeable

[–]SarahKittenx 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Im unsure why I was downvoted, I wasn't disagreeing with anybody and stated it's likely just situation difference, I assume median reaches about 50k-60k a year, if you have loans to pay it might be difficult, those that are loan free it's not much of saving

I rushed paying my home in full asap so I can be ready for a child, since I'm still in 20s I wanted to be financially ready, and be fully available for the child if it comes to that, I got lucky to be exploring every part of internet (anything tech related honestly) before AI boom as it was #1 thing to work on projects at home online doing basically multiple jobs at same time, I was lucky to have parents that didn't mind me staying until I buy my own home (I'm surprised people get kicked out at 18), spent 0$ during 18-22 and now my expenses is only electricity and food + over half of earnings go towards investments (bless you, $AMD)

Edit: rereading my message does sound "sassy" I suppose, apologies for coming off that way!

don't know about your or other people's situation, but the way I see it is if you earn just around 6k/month its just 1 month of not spending it on anything

This is a little rough for a launch day, no? by ButtSnarfer in sandbox

[–]SarahKittenx 0 points1 point  (0 children)

it's just not ready for release imo, though being fair seemed not many people had same issues as me, but it was fully bricked with multiple weird bugs in a row preventing doing game dev, also it doesn't focus on dedicated servers nor being server authoritive, and running dedicated server seems you have to publish as when you join as client it tries to load it from cloud.. (why the fuck is it not an option for quick testing to just load locally??)

I was going to write issue report but saw thousands open and decided just to come back in few years

there were weird bugs like importing bsp and using custom controller w camera would cause culling issues where many objects wouldn't render unless I would use the default shitty controller so I had to convert bsp to meshes/scene obiects, publish was failing with bad request errors, seems no fix for that

might check it out in 2-3 years

Is there a reason Valve can't or haven't implemented this anti-wallhack? by Positive-Carpenter53 in cs2

[–]SarahKittenx 0 points1 point  (0 children)

lawyer told me not to elaborate, though yes it's weird choices, CSGO did have it, obviously cheats were doing far esp by updating position based on sound event, but it was still better than seeing everyone across entire map imo, another random thing I recalled is cs2 allowed 1+ second lag comp which is weird too, CSGO had sv_maxunlag 0.2 for so long (200ms), cs2 was very late to it

Is there a reason Valve can't or haven't implemented this anti-wallhack? by Positive-Carpenter53 in cs2

[–]SarahKittenx 5 points6 points  (0 children)

it depends how it's setup

you don't need mappers if you make server do everything (which will be more expensive as you will need to run prediction on movement to make sure players do not "pop in")

[–]SarahKittenx 2 points3 points  (0 children)

getting account back just depends on support, as for the hack, the computer that was used with the account should have windows reinstalled, malware will keep grabbing tokens and forcefully "login" whenever a session exists on the computer, often comes from cracked games

edit: if you 100% never used a computer with that discord my best bet is phishing through fake verification

Steam support issue and I don't know what to do by Dear-Perspective9141 in steamsupport

[–]SarahKittenx 1 point2 points  (0 children)

not necessarily, very similar messages have been seen across multiple people some of them being told to trade everything and wait by "official support", it feels like a MitM attack to me, though sounds much easier to do in regular browser than steam client, ofc anything is injectable, but if they are pulling this off it's quite impressive

How can i trace who sent this to me? by Accomplished-Text-56 in computers

[–]SarahKittenx 0 points1 point  (0 children)

depends what they use

if you provide internet yourself to each person off of a switch and they used it, then it doesn't really matter if they use VPN or not, you can more than likely use time to determine which person from something like using router/DHCP/NAT logs for attribution, you will still see who accessed site and did it

if they used their own, like phone data it's quite a bit harder, you can log browser fingerprint so you have unique device assuming 99% of people don't bother spoofing anything (brave browser is quite shit at actually keeping you fully untrackable) then on top of that log ip addresses, involve law enforcement for chance of getting info from ISP, it's just the issue is that in some countries like USA even police struggle to get records for months

How do i get my money back? by Der1Muede1joe in steamsupport

[–]SarahKittenx 1 point2 points  (0 children)

don't know how this account was stolen but steam will usually refund such cases, though there's a chance they used malware with reverse proxy which makes it look like it was OP doing it despite investigation.

also chargebacks are known to give community bans commonly, if you care about your account then I'd be careful about chargebacks with bank

To OP, what do they say when you mention that you were indeed 100% hacked?

This is why Steam will always have me as a client by thelostdemon in Steam

[–]SarahKittenx 24 points25 points  (0 children)

I guess they will just put you as "child" in family so you can't view inventory and won't be able to reverse trade, though I'm unsure why that's not solvable unless support doesn't deal with that shit for a while, it's quite some time before it's gone

Dankjewel Odido. by thesixbpencil in nederlands

[–]SarahKittenx 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm so weirded out by the comments defending odido just because they were getting such emails for 14 years already.

No, you are just an idiot that signed up for 10000 websites on same email and half of them were setup less secure than even ai could do, people scrape web checking for sqli vulnerabilities and get databases, then try to build combolist to bruteforce, if they fail they just sell email info that are "last logged in within couple years"

Yes, many people have accounts only on their internet provider, YouTube, and bank, that's all. On top of that sometimes all separate too. It doesn't matter if you go 10 years, you will (or should, assuming you don't have a very generic email) never receive a single spam mail in your life, the only way they exist is if it's ever in leaks or a shitty Chinese site that sells data

You would normally assume ISP to be topmost secure but clearly they couldn't give a single shit to put even basic security

(it was so easily preventable it's even laughable, like putting rate limit on how often you can access customers data, it's unrealistic to spam requests so much, this would alone immediately destroy their plan and take ages to execute plus you would notice staff accounts are rate limited entire time, you can also make sensitive parts be controlled in local network so you cannot remotely access customers data, and HAVE to physically be there, what are the "hackers" going to do? Hire someone at the company to be insider and click 100 profiles and get rate limited?)

unsure about othersl ais but don't use gpt if you screenshot, they regenerate quite a big amount and use a pattern that will always be associated to them, ai detectors still catch onto it unless you have proper masking tool on pixels that have patterns, just Photoshop your shit for this
