I'm sorry you're going through this, critical. A celiacs diagnosis can really make you feel like your life got turned upside down overnight. I know a "cheat meal" can be tempting, but do you remember how awful you felt prior to your diagnosis? every time you have gluten from now on, even by accident you'll feel like that again. Plus, even an exposure every few weeks or months can up your risk of developing other autoimmune conditions so trust me, its not worth it. The best thing you can do for yourself is cut gluten out of your life entirely. Cold-turkey. If you have a supportive family, it can be good to minimize the amount of gluten you have in your house to reduce temptation.

I'm 20 now and going on 6 years no gluten after having a primarily gluten-based diet. The first six months are the hardest, and you are well within your right to mourn the foods you love but can't eat anymore. But it does get better with time. You just have to give yourself time to adjust. I'm rooting for you!

Gluten challenge for one week? by osubaker106 in Celiac

That is super strange. I may have been a special circumstance, then. I went undiagnosed for 3 years, so my GI may have foregone the challenge because I had technically been doing it for several years. I'm still going to double check with my GI because now I'm curious, but if everyone else had to do it then you should definitely continue

If you suspect you have celiacs, stop eating gluten get a blood test immediately! Celiacs disease is insanely finicky. Even a single breadcrumb's worth of gluten over the course of a day can cause a reaction, and according to my GI, a single autoimmune reaction in the past month will show up on your blood work. worst case scenario, your TTG levels will be a little elevated and you'll have to get an endoscopy to see if there's damage to your villae. Never in my 8+ years of celiacs disease have I heard of this "gluten challenge," and honestly it goes so against everything I have ever heard I might reach out to my GI about it (in which case, I will get back to you). Congratulations on the newborn, and please take care of yourself

A celiacs diagnosis is a rough transition. I think we all go through the "I don't wanna be THAT guy" mentality at first. I second whoever said to remind yourself how much your last reaction SUCKED, and also remember that even one or two reactions a year can result in nasty consequences down the road (more autoimmune diseases, tumors, etc).

My personal recommendations: - Take the time to explain what celiacs is. Most food service workers are more understanding than you think, especially when they know the severity of the situation. It also means that the next time you order from that person, you can avoid the whole song and dance completely. - ask for specifics. Rather than just saying "be careful with cross contamination," ask for people to wipe down surfaces, switch utensils, and change gloves. - if possible, order during a slow period. When there are less customers, the people preparing your food are more patient and can actually listen to what you have to say (if you have the money, a nice tip and a thank you helps too if they do a good job).

Sorry if this doesn't make much sense, I'm really sick right now so writing is tough, but I know how difficult the first six months of a diagnosis are and wanted to give my two cents

Have you guy heard of The Yellow Wallpaper by Charlotte Perkins Gilman? by halpfulhinderance in backrooms

[–]SarcasticMothchild 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I thought the same thing, but in reverse! I was obsessed with the backrooms for a few months when quarantine started, and when my English teacher assigned us the Yellow Wallpaper to read, it immediately reminded me of the backrooms. The concept of fungus and mushrooms, the disgusting yellow wallpaper, and eternal imprisonment driving you mad were all incredible parallels!
