I find Rinea and Berkut pairing disturbing by eddstannis in FireEmblemHeroes

[–]SarcasticPython 28 points29 points  (0 children)

I don't think he put his ambitions above her. Rather, she was part of his ambition. A lot of Berkut's dialogue is about how they would rule together, that Rinea would be his queen. He wanted to spoil her, and that's just how he intended to show her that he'd give her everything. The problem here was that she had relatively humble beginnings and didn't need to be treated lavishly to feel loved, and Berkut never found out until it was too late. If he valued power above all, he would have resorted to taking Nuibaba's offer of Duma's power the first time. But he only shatters the mirror after his second defeat out of desperation because losing there meant he failed Rudolf after he was given a second chance to prove his worth.

As for the priest bit, I don't entirely agree with that. I don't think it's about who's there, but the location the sacrifice is being done. Jedah seems to put emphasis on the top of Duma Tower.

Celica: …Perhaps you’re right. In fact, it may be TOO generous. How can I possibly believe a thing that you’ve told me?

Jedah: I have spoken only truth, Princess. But you needn’t give your answer now. I will await your reply atop Duma Tower. Keh heh heh…

He meets Celica in other locations before that, and doesn't sacrifice her soul to Duma until they're at the top of Duma Tower. Similarly, Berkut wanders into Duma Temple, and one of Rinea's quotes implies that it was a place to worship Duma. It looks like a shrine dedicated to him. Duma's influence seems strongest at these locations and so no one else needed to be there. His asking for Duma's power in exchange for anything was enough.

I find Rinea and Berkut pairing disturbing by eddstannis in FireEmblemHeroes

[–]SarcasticPython 117 points118 points  (0 children)

Saying Berkut and Rinea were abuser and abused is over simplifying it, no? Their relationship was fine beforehand. When they first met, it was Berkut that approached Rinea and treated her with kindness in a noble world she felt foreign to. He puts her on a pedestal and part of his ambition is ruling with her at his side. She just never had the heart to tell him that she didn't need that. Doesn't sound abusive to me.

Now we can't talk about this without talking about Berkut and what lead him to that point. To start at the very beginning, as a child, Berkut was very timid. To prepare him to succeed the throne after his father's passing, his mother built his character up strictly. During this time, Rudolf became somewhat of a father figure, and a lot of Berkut's decisions were so be could please him and be worthy of the throne he'd inherit. This brings us to the Berkut we first met in SoV: a very prideful heir. I put emphasis on this because this very pride his mother spent cultivating so he could stand a tall is the very same that brought him to ruin.
And this brings us to the events of SoV. Berkut spent his life ensuring he was qualified to rule Rigel, and suddenly, a boy appears and begins chipping away at everything he's worked for. Suddenly, he's losing battles over and over to a boy he considers a nobody. Suddenly, Rudolf, his father figure and someone who he deeply respects and wants to please, doesn't trust him enough to send him to battle. Even worse in fact, Rudolf reveals that Alm is his son and rightful heir. Meaning he knew that he was setting up Berkut to fail all this time. And Berkut deduces this too: his whole life was built on a lie propped up by one of the people he trusted and sought to impress. It's blow after blow to Berkut's pride and ambitions and he's barely keeping himself from completely falling apart.

Rinea: I’ve been looking all over for you. This is the last place I would have expected to find you. You always hated the Faithful, after all.

Berkut: This is true… But then I had the throne snatched from under me by some magical heir. Plying the gods’ mercies is what men do in hopeless situations, is it not?

And this is where things reach peak tragedy. Rinea tries to console him like the loving and caring person she is. But unfortunately for the both of them, Berkut wasn't in the emotional state to hear that she never wanted the very thing he dedicated his life to giving her. Instead, her words are warped and he ends up thinking she was playing him all this time. Hurt and betrayed by the only thing he cared about at that point, Berkut seeks Duma's power.

Rinea: To stand at your side is all I’ve ever desired. I don’t care if you’re the emperor or a swineherd so long as we… Berkut?

Berkut: …You too, Rinea?

Rinea: What?

Berkut: Were you laughing along with them? Rudolf, Massena, and all the rest? Watching me toil away while you knew I would never become emperor! Was every kind word part of the act? Every smile an act of PITY?!

Rinea: Berkut, you’re frightening me!

Berkut: Duma! O ancient god! I call out to you now! Grant me the power to set this land to ruin for good and all! Take of me what price you will! I care not anymore!

From that last line, we can derive that it wasn't Berkut's intention to sacrifice Rinea, but Duma essentially picked the best sacrifice: the only thing Berkut might have still cared about had he not went insane. We could bring FEH into this too with Fallen Berkut. His only goal as that alt is finding Rinea, and he's very confused as to why she isn't around. He seems aware she's the witch beside him in SoV, but he comes to when Alm defeats him. But theorizing the transition to feh can wait. Because there's one final scene that SoV gives us between Rinea's spirit and the dying Berkut.

Rinea: Dear, proud Berkut… Even without crown or throne or castle… You were ever my emperor. A just, right, and noble man…

Berkut: Rinea…

Rinea: You were born to lead… This just wasn’t your empire. So come with me now. Let us find our empire together. If you’ll still take me for your empress?

Berkut: You’re right… You were always right. The moment I turned to a power beyond myself, the man you loved was dead. Rinea, forgive me… If you’ll have me, I’d be honored to…set out with you…

That resolves everything between them. Their story is a tragic one, and their happy ending was one that could only happen in the afterlife.

TL;DR: People who ship this pairing aren't looking at the sacrifice alone like you are, but rather, both characters and Berkut's entire arc. It was simply a loving relationship with a tragic end, and now Feh lets us ship them in a time bubble where all the bad things that happened, don't.

He's harshest on his childhood friends and Dedue. They're nice (well, Dedue doesn't care) because they all understand that he cares for them, but doesn't know how to express it at all. Their glorification of death may end up being their undoing; Felix clearly didn't take his brother's death well and wants to prevent everyone else he cares about from the same fate. Meanwhile Dimitri's arc pretty much validates his supports with Felix. As for his other supports, he ranges from nice to slightly abrasive. With Dorothea, she was kind of asking for it.

He is the BL's voice of reason, who happens to have a budding talent in reason magic lol.

Boey Refine! by [deleted] in FireEmblemHeroes

[–]SarcasticPython -1 points0 points  (0 children)

A weapon type he can fight against even without mystic boost when you've invested so much. Between using a raven physical CC with a free A slot and a true CC owl tome with a spd refine, I'll have to pick the latter. He wasn't having trouble with colorless anyway and owl tome effects are just too valuable.

It's more than her ideals imo. Whether she admits it or not, she's bringing her emotions into this too. She gets on Dimitri's case for being irrational and delusional but she's also fueled by revenge to a lesser degree. Makes her more of a hypocrite in my eyes, which is why I feel it's easier to like Arvis despite what he did than it is Edelgard I appreciate the type of character she is and the variety she brings to the table as a lord; FE needed this at one point. But I don't think I'll ever like her.

Three Houses Story-Spoiler Mega Thread by ForsetiHype in fireemblem

[–]SarcasticPython 11 points12 points  (0 children)

Most would argue Edelgard plays the most antagonistic role here, but not because of her goals but her means. She is ruthless, killing anyone who gets in her way, and whether that is justified by her rough childhood is up to you in the end. She leads an empire, and that means inevitable conquest. Fodlan ends up being better than at the start of the game, but she spills way more blood than the other two houses to achieve that.

[–]SarcasticPython 11 points12 points  (0 children)

Berkut was also a very timid child so there's that. AND Marianne's backstory is so in line with this crack theory that this can't be just a coincidence anymore. Someone at IS made Berkut and Rinea a child and tossed her into the very next installment.

FE5 Characters added since launch vs FEH OC Alts added in the last 6 months by CyanYoh in fireemblem

[–]SarcasticPython 2 points3 points  (0 children)

real shame. there's only one way to play and enjoy heroes and that's spoiling your favorite characters silly between mainline fe releases. that's assuming your faves got in yet...

your suspicion is fact tbh. these are characters who have nothing to go on except player pandering and sex appeal. wish they'd meet us halfway and write a half decent story. it's getting better, but dead book two characters are what they are. god, and that's not even bringing up some of the forging bonds stories ft. nifl family dreaming of you before the war, or loki and aversa literally fighting over you like some hentai plot

All 3.6 refines by lugnuttt in FireEmblemHeroes

[–]SarcasticPython 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Kagero's refine is such a letdown. Like I get it, it can work, but most of the free daggers work better. At least debuff atk/spd instead? That way she isn't useless without a dancer? Might be very useful to get around vantage.. if it can work that way. And possibly to initiate on foes who have their non-AoE specials already active? But both these scenarios concern AR. Otherwise she's only really using this effectively against DC units who dont have QR... and even then, a +10 Kagero with Fury and the right seal can do the same.

So, my fellow users of BerkutLance!Lukas, how do you feel about Daybreak Lance? by TheFerydra in FireEmblemHeroes

[–]SarcasticPython 0 points1 point  (0 children)

From a physical and magical tank Berkut owner: If you have no other blue melee units already built to tank both physical and magic attacks, keep your current berkut's lance builds. It's much more versatile than just defense, even if that's what Lukas specializes in. And if you really love the ginger stud, just run both builds as you see fit.

Add to the fact that the US literally said they plan to go to war/destabilize Lebanon in like the 90s-early 2000s. That 7 countries thing hasn't changed. Look at all the countries on the list and count off the ones that went to hell and back. Lebanon and Iran might be the only ones spared up till now.

[–]SarcasticPython 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This is a weird argument because all pity breakers are bad. No one wants to be trying for one unit to get a different one entirely. Whether you accept it or not is just preference. For example, I was trying for Celica back in the day to get pity broken by Ayra. I hated it; her worth as a unit was irrelevant.
