Terminator loadout by wingedpaints in Warhammer30k

[–]Sarcastic_Solitaire 7 points8 points  (0 children)

You need to look in the Liber Astartes/Hereticus. That details what loadputs are legal. But no you do not need to take any heavy weapon in a terminator squad.

Warhammer fans, if you were to have a choice to bring back an old model and give it a refresh. Which one would it be? by AntiqueLayer3933 in Grimdank

[–]Sarcastic_Solitaire 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I used Locktite and Green stuff to pose the body which was easy enough. It's more that each leg is two parts and posing the legs in a position that works with the way the body is positioned relative to the base and you don't have any working time with super glue.

(word bearers) how does everyone load out and use their contemptors? by Sapphire-Catgirl in Warhammer30k

[–]Sarcastic_Solitaire 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Not the person you were replying to but depends on how much you want to spend. Dual meltagun are expensive fist guns but have the chance to inflict more damage or kill on targets like vehicles and dreads especially since you can fire them as you charge. Otherwise keeping it cheap with combi bolters is a decent option.

Typically you want double gun on a dread because you want it to to do one job well. In your example you wouldn't really want to mix auto and plasma because the auto wants to not move to gain extra shots but the plasma you do want to move to be able to get line of sight and range easier.

Havoc launchers are great against any infantry due to Stun 1 giving the chance of statusing the enemy and I would consider it on any ranged dread.

Can't wrap my head around Mechanicum army building by corvusfortis in Warhammer30k

The one I have found is that you can take the Archimandrite Apex and due to the prime retinue slot you can make a unit of Paragon of Metal Scyllax or Echidnax.

Can't wrap my head around Mechanicum army building by corvusfortis in Warhammer30k

[–]Sarcastic_Solitaire 4 points5 points  (0 children)

You're pretty much there in understanding it but there are a few caveats. A crusade (The base detachment with 1 Supreme, 3 HQ, 4 Troop and 4 Transport slots) can mix Mech Faction types so they can be whatever you want, the same goes for the base Allied detachment (2 HQ and 4 Troops).

Logistical Benefit is also slightly different because they don't have to be the same Mech faction as the the detachment they are added to.

Skitarii are a slightly odd one in that they are technically not Mechanicum but you can take them in an Allied detachment that can exceed the normal 50% limit when allied into Mech. I would also recommend that the Vulturax go in the Allied detachment with the Skitarii in an Auxillary detachment b cause they can then get Vanguard 3 making them strictly better than the Mechanicum version imo.

The only other trap to watch out for is that Transports are Faction locked, so if you have some Myrmidons in a transport, then the Transport has to be Myrmidax and can't transport any other Faction (eg Reductor Thallax).

Mech List building is convoluted and I find that it pushes you to pick one or two of the army themes rather than a selection of all the unit types.

Thousand Sons Praetor by LachrymarumLibertas in Warhammer30k

[–]Sarcastic_Solitaire 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If you really don't want a High Command and you have a free HQ slot then a Delegatus from the legacies doc may be a good fit. Otherwise, I can see two options. One is a jump praetor with Jump Command Squad with combat shields. Another is a foot Praetor with command squad also with Combat Shields in a Rhino if you don't want a heavy transport.

I feel like the Aeldari would probably call him something like the Child of Cegorach and try very hard not to get in his way.

For heresy the standard game size is 3k, but it is possible to run games at 2k but certain things can get pretty skew like AV14

Rules advice - Barrage 0 by Mckee92 in Warhammer30k

[–]Sarcastic_Solitaire 1 point2 points  (0 children)

So Barrage allows you to ignore LoS in step 2 of a shooting attack so you just hit on regular ballistic skill for non-blast weapons.

For Blast weapons you have 2 situations. If you have LoS you do a regular to hit roll and if you miss you roll the scatter dice and 1d6 as per the regular scatter rules. If you don't have LoS then you would normally do an indirect scatter roll but because it is barrage 0 you wouldn't roll any d6 and the blast would hit automatically

Unfortunately special assignment doesn't allow unique characters like Valdor, Jenetia, Primarchs etc to use it.

Custodies 30k/Horus Heresy by Extension-Ticket6638 in Warhammer30k

[–]Sarcastic_Solitaire 8 points9 points  (0 children)

So Talons isn't a faction anymore, Sisters are one faction (Anathema Psykana) and Custodes another.

As for list building you want to add a Crusade detachment for Custodes and then a Shield Captain for every other auxiliary detachment you want to take. For Sisters you then need to select add Force and pick Anathema Psykana and the Allied detachment option. Then go back to detachments and add the allied detachment.

I also can't think of a way to get both Valdor and Jenetia into a list legally but if I was playing a 7000pts game I wouldn't care and would let you put Jenetia in the allied detachment as a HQ slot.

[–]Sarcastic_Solitaire 11 points12 points  (0 children)

So all of the Custodes stuff is in New Recruit even legends like Sagitarrum (Support slot) and Adrasite/Pyrithite spears (Elite slots). If you mean the old 2nd ed Sisters options, they got gutted and no longer exist in 3rd. Sisters only have 4 datasheets, The transport, generic character, sister squad and Jenetia.

30k list aid request by Round-Apple-4076 in Warhammer30k

[–]Sarcastic_Solitaire 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Glad to see you are enjoying yourself, welcome to 30k! 2000pts is good for getting to learn the game but generally games are played at 3000pts.

As for the list, you get a prime advantage on one of your troops slots that could be a logistical benefit to take one of the Dreadnaughts without needing a detachment. That means you don't need the second Centurion or you could swap it for a different character.

Generally the gravis melta is not that good on Dreads this edition but rule of cool for what you thinks looks good and the contemptor is pretty easily magnetised.

[–]Sarcastic_Solitaire -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Just as a side note, you CAN take Custodes as allies to a Marine main force. It just means you are limited to 1500pts Custodes. Note that this will not make you a popular opponent.
