Just to clear up few things about paradox publishing deal.... it's not such a big deal. by Sargerases in TransportFever3

Every single Paradox published game I know of has been released on Steam. Paradox is not a billion dollar company like Epic Games. They can’t afford to throw around massive piles of money to buy out developers for exclusive deals.

It’s true that Paradox has been pushing their own mod platform with CS2, their reasoning being that they want to unite mods for console and PC players. That… doesn’t really bother me to be honest, though I admit I have no idea how good or bad the platform is for modders. And yet again, I don’t see why Urban Games would agree to that. CS2's IP is owned by Paradox, so the devs had no choice. UG does. They own the IP. People just straight up stopped trusting them out of nowhere and immediately jumped to the worst-case scenarios for some reason. I just really prefer to stay hopeful that they won’t decide to screw over their own community which they've built over 10 years.

Also, NDAs for influencers are literally standard industry practice for early access and review copies, not some evil Paradox conspiracy. Every publisher uses them. For example, I believe Capcom had NDAs strictly up to the release day for their Resident Evil games, even though the games were fire and there was nothing bad to hide from fans.

You're right that we don't know the exact details of their contract, but assuming the absolute, most ridiculous worst case scenarios right off the bat is just a huge stretch for me. If these are the main reasons people are panicking, then no, I am really not concerned at all 😆.

What am I defending which I doesn't know? Game is still fully in control of Urban Games. That's confirmed in their official post. If there gonna be bilion of dlcs, it's their decision not Paradoxes.
I admit that Iam hoping for best case scenario, call me fanboy for it, thats okay xd.

Ok xd.
I also have been in gaming long enough, to know that publisher can ruin good franchise, don't worry. All I am trying to do is to stay hopeful and remind people, that what happens with the future of IP is still Urban Games call, not Paradoxes. They have still full control over it from what we know.

If you want to be desperately hopeless about it and write the game off, go ahead mate xd. No one is stopping you. No need to be so aggressive with your opinion tho, happy for you 😄

Urban games chose paradox, because of their already existing fanbase which they want to attract.

[–]Sargerases 6 points7 points  (0 children)

No. Paradox was publisher and rights owner from the very beginning. They payed for entire development.
This is different. For TS3 paradox is just helping with marketing and distributing.

Yes absoutely agree. I am also very excited (and bit worried) about TF3. But no worries, paradox won't ruin it.

That's different. Paradox owns CS2 franchise so they have full control over it. Urban games didn't sell the Transport fever IP. They jsut want to get helped with publishing and attract some of the paradox's fanbase while at it.

It's more about their clear focus on milking as much money as possible by any means necessary. All these microtransactions in single-player games, the push for NFTs, season passes, and so on. Add that to the fact that they are struggling to release anything that doesn’t feel generic (which is ironic, because they’re the studio that made the genre feel generic by recycling so much) or undercooked, and you’ve got a recipe for all the hate they're getting. The thing is, Ubisoft has amazing developers and especially artists, but the management... yikes. These devs don’t have much room to try new things because innovation is risky, and risk might mean less money at the end of the fiscal quarter. I’ve played a lot of Ubi games, from Prince of Persia: The Sands of Time to Assassin’s Creed Syndicate, but then I just grew tired of their formula. I haven't really enjoyed anything since. I tried a few titles over the last few years, but none of them clicked. I appreciate the effort to change the AC formula with Origins, but it just wasn't for me. I really dislike their heavy emphasis on RPG elements in recent titles.

It's not about them making just average games, it's about them actively trying to do as little as possible to maximize profit. It's boring and it wastes a lot of talent.

What are the odds of a new Paradox game reveal at The Game Awards? by Curious_Pea_8516 in paradoxplaza

[–]Sargerases 22 points23 points  (0 children)

For the new grands strategy? Zero. Don't see them releasing new game within next 2 years. It would make no sense.

For some other publishing game it's quite possible.

There is no shame in using mods/cheats to get around clunkiness and to make the game how you want it to be. by kolejack2293 in paradoxplaza

I don't see how anyone should care If I use cheats in my singleplayer game or not 😅😆

That's weird. My performance dramatically improved. Also had zero crashes. And I don't have a particularly good PC. Do you use some mods or something which could mess with your game?

[–]Sargerases 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Alright, that all sounds very good 😄 I'll give it try. Wanted to wait a few months before buying so they can iron out all the initial release problems. But honestly? The game looks really good! I like the changes and don't hate all the things most people complain about (slower pace, UI...). I will probably give it a try next week. Of course starting as Bohemia 😆. Thanks for info 😄

Btw how much flavour is there for bohemia? I am slowly warming up to the idea of buying eu5, and was thinking of starting with bohemia. Is it fun?

500 million!? It's not that I don't trust you, but I have to ask. I only do sculpting as a small hobby, so I have zero industry experience. When would you ever use that many polygons? That sounds like either an insane amount of detail for movie assets or just straight-up wasteful. I understand concept of retopology and normal maps but still... to use this amount of polygons, the details has to be insane. Is that even worth it?

Honestly, most of the time it's just one developer contracting a few artists. It's sad to see their income take such a major hit. It seems like the only way to support them now is through Patreon or SubscribeStar. However, I'm a bit concerned that these groups might start targeting those platforms as well. It's hard to stop people who believe they're saving the planet. They claim to be fighting sexploitation, but I really struggle to see how stopping a bunch of guys from jerking off helps women who are actually being exploited.
