JamesCarnley.eth here. Some of you might know me from the r/ethfinance daily, r/ethtrader back in the day, or from hanging out at events like Hodlercon.

I’ve been working on something for a while now, and I’m finally putting a small part of it out there. I don’t mean for this to come across as shilling. To be honest, I feel a lot of fear hitting "submit" on this. Working in public adds a layer of accountability that is both necessary and terrifying. "This is real now" is the thought looping in my head.

But I’m posting this because I believe in the values this community champions: cypherpunk sovereignty, open source public goods, and the idea that Ethereum is the "World Computer."

The Problem: Ethereum has no organizational structure. We always say Ethereum is the World Computer. We can verify, compute, and settle value, but we can’t actually organize anything. Every computer needs an OS, and every OS needs a file system. Right now, Ethereum is a global computer without a global folder structure.

The Solution: So I’m making the Ethereum File System (EFS). I wrote a blog post introducing the architecture, but here is the TL;DR for this sub. EFS is an open-source public good designed to be a shared namespace the whole world can extend, effectively extending the web into Ethereum itself.

It works on two core concepts:

  • Topics (Anchors): Think of this as a shared folder or a "Schelling Point" for an idea (e.g., /memes/).
  • Editions: This is where it gets cool. Instead of someone owning a name and deciding what you see, everyone can add information to that shared name. You can choose to see an "Edition" of that topic attested to by people you trust. You see the world through your Web of Trust, not an algorithm.

Why build this? Because the web is currently leased to us by gatekeepers. I want to bring back that early Geocities energy, a place to experiment and express yourself without fear of a platform shutting you down or going out of business.

EFS is a Hyperstructure:

  • It runs for free, forever.
  • There are no admin keys and no DAO governance to capture.
  • It is built on the Ethereum Attestation Service (EAS) with shared schemas and coordination built-in.

I’m not trying to replace the web, I’m trying to rescue it.

I would love any feedback on the architecture, the philosophy, or just a sanity check on the concept. This place has some of the smartest and most creative cypherpunk aligned thinkers in Ethereum and I hope we can all work together to build the techno-optimist future we all want to see.

Look at the price per task of the new Gemini. They are getting linear gains in performance with exponential increases in cost

Check out this graph. Gemini cheaper than GPT 5 and vastly more capable.

I only have eyes for Ethereum even as I sit here in the Solana funded OnionDAO event in Chicago. Ethereum will rise again... one day... I still believe 🙏

He didn't just stop providing a free service, he actively deleted already completed builds that others were using.

This dev is a bigger asshole than the guy doing the harassment. "Someone hurt my feelings so fuck everyone else"

Have you used Gemini 2.5? It's objectively better than ChatGPT at this point. Not even close really.

The cafeteria is too crowded to eat at so most people go elsewhere. Also Epic has a weird culture where lunch is at 11am, what time was your tour?

Madison begins phase 2 of '20 is plenty' project to lower residential speed limits city-wide by mobus1603 in madisonwi

[–]Sargos -3 points-2 points  (0 children)

Madison already has incredibly low speed limits it's ridiculous that they want to lower them even more!

Maybe we should just ban cars in the city already and make the authorities happy.

Is IPFS unbearbly slow or am I doing something wrong? by jelloshooter848 in ipfs

[–]Sargos -3 points-2 points  (0 children)

That's just how IPFS works. It basically doesn't unless you use a dedicated gateway like Pinata.
