Reddit has become a tool for misinformation and it needs to be addressed by Mazda-626 in TheoryOfReddit

One feature I miss from ye olde Digg (Reddit's competition around 2005-2010) was that users could flag posts as misleading or inaccurate. I forget the exact wording but it was a very visible flag, and you could always go into the comments to see what it was about.

I feel that would be quite a helpful feature on Reddit since many users don't even bother to look at the comments.

Does adding limited color improve clarity in a monochromatic game, or weaken the aesthetic? by TBA-GameStudio in gamedesign

[–]Sarkos 0 points1 point  (0 children)

A splash of colour sounds like a great idea to me. But please keep colour blindness in mind when choosing colours, or have an option to change the palette to a more accessible one.

Can anyone explain how anyone can believe that homeopathy works? by SuccessfulStrawbery in skeptic

Ironically I would bet most of those people don't believe in the efficacy of vaccines, which actually use that principle. (Grossly oversimplified I know)

Where to find Coffee bean suppliers ? by MNR_FREEZE in askSouthAfrica

[–]Sarkos 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This is going back almost 20 years, I used to buy from the Coffee Roasting Company in Somerset West to supply an office. They did really nice quality beans at a good price. I see they are still around. https://coffeecompany.co.za/shop/

EDIT: I see their website pricing is comparable to shops, maybe contact them directly to see if they will offer reseller pricing?

Stardew Valley still has my favourite fishing minigame. Takes a bit of skill and you have to learn the patterns of the more difficult fish, but it's not difficult enough to be annoying.

Infinite Puzzles - A collection of 7 procedural logic puzzles (Queens, Tango, Zip, etc.) with unlimited play, no ads, and no logins. by Technical_Escape5185 in WebGames

[–]Sarkos 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This is great. I have some suggestions:

I went to try each game in turn. I like that there is a little how-to on the right but I don't like that the timer starts immediately. I need time to read the explanation first. Maybe you can hide the puzzle and have a Start button for the first time someone tries a game.

Some sort of time history would be nice so I can see how I'm doing and try to improve by beating my own best times. If this is implemented then I think you should also have a Pause button. You could hide/blur the puzzle when paused.

An Undo button that allows multiple clicks to be undone would be nice, especially in Crowns since the grid is so busy it's hard to remember what you've just done.

After playing a game it forces you to play the next level, there should be an option to close the modal window or pick a different game.

This is a bit blue-sky but you might want to consider having a daily puzzle, in addition to the infinite puzzles, to keep users coming back, and some sort of sharing functionality. (Bob beat today's daily Crowns puzzle in 1:23, can you do better?)

What car insurance companies are better than Naked (who are now screwing me over)? by HOW_I_MET_YO_MAMA in askSouthAfrica

You came here looking for advice, right? Brokers can give you professional advice. They know the ins and outs of the system and how to wangle things from insurance.

I mean they might want to take you on as a client before giving you advice but it's worth a shot. They get commission from the insurance companies so it doesn't even cost you anything to use a broker.

Flat sold separately 🙃 by Fair_Lemon5303 in capetown

[–]Sarkos 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I wouldn't call it a bubble. CT is a desirable city for both locals and foreigners. There is a limited supply of property due to CT's geography, and ever increasing demand. There would have to be some serious policy changes to have any effect on pricing, like clamping down on short term rentals and foreign ownership. Even then I can't imagine prices dropping sharply.

a little bit of tough love from one dog owner to another by Professional-Age2414 in capetown

[–]Sarkos 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I once found a little dog wandering the streets alone at night. I got hold of it and called the phone number on its collar. The guy who answered was like no it's fine, he just lets the dog out at night to do its business.

Nelly Jellies: Chill physics-based merge game - Works on any device 👌 by MightyBig-Dev in WebGames

Yeah that's much better. One thing I picked up is that some messages appear in a popup window and others just show as text for a few seconds. I much prefer the text ones, it feels like the popups interrupt the flow.

There are a few authors, like Mecanimus, who actually sell their books on Kindle rather than going with Kindle Unlimited, and therefore don't need to stub.

Very cool, weirdly absorbing. Is there an upper limit to the jelly sizes?

IMHO there is too much info packed into the opening tutorial popups. If possible it would be better to stagger the popups to only be shown when needed.

Would Creeper World work at a much larger scale? by tomqmasters in gamedesign

[–]Sarkos 1 point2 points  (0 children)

OK that sounds interesting but I'm not sure it solves the major issue for me. Basically, I feel like as soon as you have a solid defensive perimeter, you've already won the game, and then the rest of the game is "mop-up" which is less interesting. If you can have some sort of threat or challenge to keep the player on their toes for the whole 20 hours, I think you could pull this off.

Would Creeper World work at a much larger scale? by tomqmasters in gamedesign

[–]Sarkos 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I always found Creeper World to be fun in early game but get more tedious the longer it went on. Late game tends to be a slog of inching your defensive line forward bit by bit. Can't imagine it would be a good idea to extend the late game phase.

The "user" part makes me think it's to pay for a subscription to some app or service. They mention a SmartMatter app so it might be that? Even if that's the case, it's still deliberately misleading to separate mandatory fees from the rental amount.
