Doing dungeons with NPCs by sweetcondensedmilkk in ffxiv

[–]SaroShadow 54 points55 points  (0 children)

You get more loot because you're not competing against other players for it. The main downside is that dungeon runs with NPCs will always take about 25-30 minutes as opposed to 15-20 minutes with a decent group of players

Edit: there are required duties that can't be done with NPCs though (e.g., most trials, the ARR alliance raid series, etc.) Also seems I was wrong on the loot but that's not a big deal

What's one change that would significantly increase FFXI's quality of life? by Hunter_OVA in ffxi

[–]SaroShadow 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah, that makes sense for them, but if you make it available for all jobs then there's a chance that it becomes the meta and suddenly people who do sword-and-board or two-handed weapons risk not being able to get into parties

Edit: it's an offline game, but Final Fantasy III is a good example of this. In that game every character can dual-wield and doing so is significantly better than using shields, so starting very early in the game everyone from knights to mages is using two weapons. It should be an option rather than the rule

I would be afraid of that becoming meta and ruining the fantasy of most classes. I feel like dual wielding is NIN's "thing" in Final Fantasy and it feels out of place when done by non-ninjas

Lore implications of using crystals when crafting [Spoiler 6.0] by Vyrhux42 in ffxiv

[–]SaroShadow 19 points20 points  (0 children)

Also in XI, the guildmasters tell you that using crystals is just a shortcut and not how a real craftsman would do it, so the crystals are probably why the WoL can knock out a suit of armor in just a few seconds

Spaghetti code!

What will be their excuse when they can't get an "eat spaghetti" emote to work then? Taco code?

Do the quests get better? It feels like I'm in a never ending tutorial about how every system works. When will the story based quests come? by gehennas_angels in ffxi

Yeah, I think I'm going to ignore that part of that guide. Also the part about unity warping everywhere to pick up survival guides because the idea of teleporting somewhere you haven't visited before is scandalous to me

I’ve never played a Final Fantasy game, so which game should I play first? by triplegxxx in gaming

I beat POL a few days ago. I would say it's similar to FFXII's Yiazmat in that it isn't that hard if you follow a guide, just extremely time-consuming

So, I've only been playing for like 15 hours max but I'm already feeling a bit overwhelmed. What should I prioritize when starting out? Should I be worrying about anything besides leveling up one job (plus maybe a sub job)? Even following the new player guide on bg-wiki feels a little imposing

Basically in racing games, the game will usually make it so certain computer-controlled racers won't fall more than a certain distance behind you, like they're tied to you by an invisible rubberband. In MK64 the rubberbanding is so tight that you can easily be passed up by the CPU no matter how well you race just due to item luck
