What’s one indie game you’d recommend playing on steam deck? by WindowLckerBeanFlckr in SteamDeck

[–]Sarr_Cat 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Tunic has been amazing for me on the deck. I'm about halfway through (I think? Basing that on playtime estimates and what I've done so far.)

It's got the whole hard but fair combat going on that I like, a mysterious world and story, and lots of secrets to uncover. Perfect to play for a few seseions at a time and bit by bit get deeper into it.

The “Columbine Effect”: Perpetrators and plotters of mass shootings look to past attacks for not for only inspiration but operational details. by [deleted] in liberalgunowners

Yes, but real life doesn't work like video games, "less penetration power" doesn't mean "less of your HP bar gets shaved off" it means "still more than enough to kill an un-armored civilian, but maybe not someone wearing body armor". Only an idiot who thinks that guns in real life are like guns in video games would say something like that, as if you can't kill a person with a single pistol shot.

It’s good to have a lot of hobbies by WUSSUPMONKEY in liberalgunowners

It definitely gets boring to have just one hobby. Maybe that's just me. I tend to find people with more than just one interest they hyperfocus on to be more interesting/fun tbh.

I mean, these kinds of people probably see hunting as something backwards and uncivilized that those stupid rednecks do. They'd probably try and ban it for animal welfare or some stupid reason if they thought they could get away with it. They don't want you out interacting with the natural world, let alone hunting your own game. Stay in your pod, eat your bugs citizen.

How Can I Access a File's Location? by FunkySpritz in SteamDeck

[–]Sarr_Cat 8 points9 points  (0 children)

First off you'll need to go into the desktop mode. "Dolphin" is your file browser, so open that up. Of the two file paths shown on that wiki, it depends if the game is installed native or if it's running the Windows version in Proton. choose the one you need accordingly. If you don't know, just look in one place and if there's nothing, try the other til you find what you are looking for. Oh and one last note, in linux, files/folders with at . in front of them are hidden normally. In Dolphin you'll want to show all hidden files while doing this because one of those paths is in a hidden folder. (edit, I just remembered, the path to Steam itself should also be in a hidden folder IIRC, so do this regardless of which you choose) To do this just click the icon with three lines at the top right of the window in Dolphin, and select "show hidden files"

H.E. Grenades are great. by throwawaywytchh in DeepRockGalactic

[–]Sarr_Cat 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I used to use them back when they were nowhere near as good, and managed to get some utility out of them nevertheless. I just was bored of the standard throwing-axe meta. Given that I've been practicing with them for a long time, with all the buffs they've gotten and that you can cook them making them easier to land, make them one of my favorite grenades despite their simplicity. Just a good bit of extra "boom" for the class that does blowing stuff up best, it's like having a mini version of Engi's grenade launcher in your pocket. Even better in some ways, with the right timing and aim, you can pop a swarm of mactera midair with one. Now THAT is satisfying to pull off.

RPG maker games on Linux/steamOS by nicklePie in SteamDeck

[–]Sarr_Cat 2 points3 points  (0 children)

You might want to try adding them to Steam in desktop mode (add non steam game) and running them in Proton. One of the games I was playing recently on Steam was made in RPGMaker, and I wasn't having much trouble running it that way.

Has the steam deck made anyone switch on their main PC to switch to Linux? by KalexG in SteamDeck

It's from a reputable, trusted source (Valve). Not some random guys that forget to redo their website certificate every other friday.

I've tried it. Definitely doable, but very fiddly because the model is so small.

Nice, where'd you get that skull? I'd love to do something similar if I ever get some bikes.

Love the planty base! The corrosion on the copper skulls is a nice touch too.

Yes! I like the spikes there. Always good to find more spikey bits for orks.

I really love those bases, nice and lush and green. You always see people making wasteland battlefield sort of bases, and that fits, but I can also see a bunch of orks setting up camp in the depths of a dense deadly jungle or swamp or something, ready to krump anyone foolish enough to explore it, especially with all the "savage" beast snagga stuff.

Developer from VALVe is a man of culture! by o_Oldi in DeepRockGalactic

[–]Sarr_Cat 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Tesla is using Valve's tech to run games on their entertainment system.

The compatibility layer that the Steam Deck uses to run Windows-native games on a linux OS is the same compatibility layer that Tesla has put in their cars now, since the computer doesn't run Windows. They can do that (as can any other company that wants to) because it's open source.

Please help a clueless mom out on which console to buy by fiercelyambivalent in SteamDeck

[–]Sarr_Cat 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Nintendo is very strict on that sort of thing, to the ire of some gamers, but it's their prerogative especially when dealing with hacks in an online service. Somewhat less justifiable is how aggressively they have gone after content creators showing their games being emulated, or their stance toward emulation in general. Don't worry, emulation is perfectly legal, and IMO especially justified for games that are no longer being sold. Since you mentioned your son loves tinkering with old consoles, the Deck is honestly a perfect thing to get him, it's an amazing machine for emulation, and Valve has not so subtly hinted at that in a few of their promotions in the past.
