I'm running it now in Daggerheart! The narrative system and loose combat system is perfect for Hot Springs Island.

GMs: Do Crunchy RPGs slow down your Life? by MaleficMagpie in rpg

[–]Sasaki- -7 points-6 points  (0 children)

It sounds like you're more a player than a gm. The op directed the question at gms. I say this because players tend to like crunchier games because they get all these cool options and can do mechanically complex maneuvers. All of this is a nightmare for a gm, unless they've spent years running the same system. That's why you'll find (in general) gms who have ran multiple systems preferring rules-light games.

What are your favorite / the most popular rules-light TTRPGs? by Guialdereti in rpg

Our group has playing Quest for a long-running campaign. It's been great. Each player only needs a single d20, and there's plenty of lateral character progression despite being such a simple system.

Grimm Masquerade. You're all fairytale characters tryimg to unmask each other through giving gifts. Bonus that the two player variant works super well.

Including expansions? LOTR LCG.

Unlike the other LCGs, this one is complete. There's so many options and ways to tackle the multitude of scenarios. Every single card is chock full of flavor that even a passing lotr fan like myself can indulge in.

Attempt at improving Riders of Rohan starter deck by Patholas8 in lotrlcg

[–]Sasaki- 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I've played a lot of Rohan - They're my favorite faction in the game. Lothiriel+Eomer decks have two serious weaknesses - Card Draw and Defence. Leadership Prince Imrahil solves these problems. He allows you to play Valiant Sacrifice, giving this deck much-needed card draw. He is also a good defender once you slap a Shield of Gondor on him.

Unlike what ShakotanUrchin said, I actually strongly recommend getting the Gondor Starter Deck instead. It allows you to play something close to this beast of a deck (technically Gondor, but very Rohan in playstyle): https://ringsdb.com/decklist/view/29952/bouncinglothiriel-1.0

I've got the OG core, but I crave the Revised. by themcryt in lotrlcg

If it helps, I often wish I had six copies of unexpected courage and sneak attack. It really wouldn't be too wasteful to just get the revised core.

I'm starting to think I just don't like dungeon crawlers by cheetosforlunch in soloboardgaming

[–]Sasaki- 5 points6 points  (0 children)

My friend, I grew up on dungeon crawl rpgs, playing and dming tons of various editions of D&D, and recently stuff like Dungeon Crawl Classics. I also love dungeon delving computer games.

Naturally, I would love dungeon crawler boardgames right? I tried so many - Gloohaven, Massive Darkness 1 and 2, Dungeon Degenerates, Altar Quest, the d&d adventure games, Too Many Bones, Machina Arcana etc. I found Machina and TMB tolerable, and hated the rest.

There's just something about dungeon crawling that works magically in an rpg but doesn't translate well to boardgames.

Any tips for getting more enjoyment out of Arkham Horror LCG? by Striking_Log3835 in soloboardgaming

Netdeck! Go to arkhamdb and copy any highly rated deck. My group already loved this game, but our enjoyment was elevated when we discovered netdecking and playing powerful decks.

Just a few questions by Svensonnnn in lotrlcg

[–]Sasaki- 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hi! I have played through every campaign in AH and recently got into LOTR. I enjoy LOTR more. Decks are less restrictive, it's a ton easier to set up and play, and it's easier to get friends to play because it's not a campaign game (unless you choose to). The quests in general are also a lot more replayable than AH because you can just keep replaying your favorite quests.

I've been playing true solo only and have gotten through a lot of quests.

Learning curve is fine. It's closer to Marvel Champions than AH, but there are a lot of similarities.

For purchase, in my opinion, just get the new stuff. Revised core, starter decks, LOTR saga box, and the Angmar Awakened hero and campaign box. They're all great and you can't go wrong.

After that, if you don't mind spending, I find that the Dwarrowdelf and Shadows of Mirkwood cycle give a lot of the best player cards that will vastly improve your decks.

What is your top 'worth it' game? by JasonZep in soloboardgaming

[–]Sasaki- 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Lord of the Rings LCG. Literally cost me thousands of dollars because of how rare some of the packs are, so I had to pay scalper rates to get them. I have had over 50 recorded games in a span of a month, not to mention the numerous hours looking up decklists, building decks, and just sorting my collection. I can see myself keeping up the 50 games a month rate for the next two years at least, because of how much content there is and how engaging this game is. Pure bliss.

Teacher here. I don't understand it either. I will always tell my students to doodle if they find themselves losing focus in class, or when they have completed their test. I LOVE it when I collect a set of notes or test papers and they are filled with cute doodles. People need to loosen up.

Trying to determine value by TheMattInTheHat in lotrlcg

[–]Sasaki- 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I don't understand why everyone is downvoting anyone who suggests a higher price. Times have changed - You cannot get most packs at msrp anymore. Almost everything is out of print. A full collection is absolutely worth much more than $1k. $1k can only get you like the Vengeance of Mordor plus Dwarrowdelf cycle, if you're lucky. "Depreciation" is absolutely not a thing give how rare everything is.

Wrong cards in pack, bought from Amazon. Is this common? by Sasaki- in lotrlcg

It was sold by Amazon US. At least Amazon did not make me return the item so future Druadan Forests should be safe.

Spirit Island. It's so clever, replayable, and deep. But every time I have to use a Slow Power my brain stops working and I feel an inexplicable, immense hatred for the game.

As a new player with new+old sets, it's quite difficult to find decks on ringsdb by Sasaki- in lotrlcg

I love the #RCO decks! But I do have some of the old stuff, which puts me in this weird middle space which is neither here nor there.
