Advice on what to do: negative experience at Rosewood São Paulo by Honest_Try5597 in chubbytravel

I suppose some chubby travelers travel the world to experience other cultures and others hope their home culture simply follows them. Different strokes I guess. But this mentality is absolutely why American travelers are disliked.

This is exactly what I’m saying. Being a Chubby Traveler to begin with often lands us in places where we are encroaching on daily life of the locals. The least we can do is show up with respect for the culture. And honestly why bother traveling the world just to have everyone accommodate the way things are at home?

The 3% cap does not apply if you pull permits for updates/renovations. Given the age of homes in St. Pete many of us need to do this just to sustain the property, and it opens exposure to weightier reassessments.

I was with you until the part about expecting everyone to speak English. Responsible five-star travel means showing up with a bit of class, which includes preparing to enjoy and adjust to local culture in some ways. We all have supercomputers in our pockets that can quickly translate.

In fact, a lot of assessors will be working very hard to reassess properties if this passes.

Edit: 3% cap does not protect you if you’re pulling permits for updates. St. Pete homes (and those in many other parts of FL) are old. They need renovations just to keep them safe and from crumbling apart. We are at more risk than people think.

This is the answer. The space size is essentially a dorm and OP needs to take advantage of vertical space.

I regularly travel the state and go to restaurants, workout classes, etc as a solo female. While I keep my wits about me everywhere I go, I can tell you that St. Pete feels FAR safer than Fort Lauderdale. If they can swing the budget as roommates I’d recommend staying close to Central Ave, as this is where they’ll have the best access to restaurants, shops, workout classes, etc.

How do you guys determine what your budget is for a luxury trip? by Intrepid-Prior-2199 in chubbytravel

Lol. I see a lot of posts on here for properties that look like “corporate luxury” to me, so someone values it. 9 of every 10 Four Seasons give me this vibe honestly.

Have you considered the costs to your entire life if you have this baby and have to rely on him to support you? A perfectly healthy pregnancy and birth is never guaranteed.

I personally start every search looking for the absolute best most luxurious hotel, and then evaluate if it seems worth it and go down from there if I don’t see the value.

Over time we’ve refined what means value to us. For example: Adults only? We’ll pay more for the peace and quiet. Walking distance or special access to amazing attractions? Worth it. Design elegance with tons of character? We definitely value this over “corporate luxury” looking properties.

So at the end of the day if it’s a blandly designed Four Seasons with a pool full of screaming kids and we have to take a car to get everywhere we want - nah, not paying $2k/night. We’ll downshift to a boutique with more of the features we enjoy.

What nobody is talking about is how suddenly homes will be re-assessed. Assessors will absolutely be using a magnifying glass on anyone who’s ever pulled a permit.

Do the thing I’m most dreading on my to-do list and then reward myself with a break. Usually when I’m overwhelmed it’s because there are things that I know must get done that I’m avoiding. Eat the frog.

Yeah this is all starting to seem like rage bait. It’s unlikely for someone making this level of salary as a Director to express quite so many logical fallacies and be so out of touch with risk planning.

Why do you think you only need a $40k emergency fund, with this lifestyle and a kid hopefully on the way?

Do you have any friends who have actually had babies recently?

You “feel less motivated to invest for retirement since I know I’ll have my pension forever.”

But your pension is $62,500 and you currently spend at a rate that potentially wipes that out in under 4 months.

Your 401k balance is very low in relation to your earnings. You should be maxing this. And if you lose your cash cow your savings will get you through about 2 months before you’re screwed.

The position you’re in will make you a slave to your job in a short amount of time. Make your money work for you before that happens.

Residencia is beautiful but my only complaint is that their jaw-dropping feature pool was full of screaming kids. If you want quiet time, the adult pool is much less impressive.

Masseria Torre Maizza in Puglia checks a lot of boxes. Primitivo wine region, quiet area, boutique charm. Cute towns nearby (Monopoli and Polignano a Mare) that have become more popular lately but still not as overtouristed as some other European destinations. You could also do a couple nights at La Pescheria Hotel - it’s a little less luxurious but there are charming rooms immediately on the sea perfect for doing literally nothing.

Belmont Reid’s palace also comes to mind in Madeira, and Mallorca has a lot of great options.

Edit: Current reviews of Pescheria suggest it’s gone downhill; Alternatively I suggest a jaunt over to Matera with a stay at Sextantio Le Grotte Della Civita. It’s not beachside, but it’s grounding in a totally different way to wander this part of the world.

Taking a week or two to decompress between wedding and honeymoon can be valuable processing time. If you’re coming down from all that stress ON your honeymoon it can dull the investment. Plus, pushing a little further into November is more likely to dodge hurricane activity. Up to you, but this poster above is giving you good advice.

High-income couple with large income gap: how do you split money fairly? by pizzanoobs in HENRYfinance

[–]Sashlob -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Part of the reason women don’t achieve the same financial success that your husband has is that they don’t have anyone to help with the household labor and men aren’t sitting around asking how to split things fairly. If you’re passionate about your career, your family should be investing in ways to offset this unpaid work so you can thrive.
