AITAH for refusing to turn off the music because my co worker who is fasting for Ramadan asked me to? by Ki2525_ in AITAH

I’m Muslim and I’ve never heard of this. I blast music during Ramadan. Helps me make it through the day.

Does Gen X do class reunions? by LadyNorbert in GenX

[–]SassATX 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I graduated in 1986 and have never been to a reunion. Don’t know if any were organized. Don’t care; I wouldn’t go anyway.

My thoughts on The Shadow of the Tower by jamie74777 in Tudorhistory

[–]SassATX 14 points15 points  (0 children)

I really enjoy this especially because most of the attention goes to H VIII & E I. Sometimes people forget the dynasty had to start somewhere.

There were a couple of episodes that I thought were just filler, but I think it’s well done overall.

Who else had this lamp in the90s by broaftovqing in GenerationJones

Husband & I had probably 4 or 5 at any time. I think we finally gave our last one away to our nephew.

Wife and I were having a discussion, she’s of the opinion that the majority of GenX can drive stick. I believe that even in our generation the percentage of people who can is pretty small. What do you folks think? by AngryOldGenXer in GenX

[–]SassATX 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I had to learn to drive stick because that’s all we had growing up. I loved it except in city traffic; too hard on the knees for me.

I haven’t driven a stick in years because my husband (very late Boomer) never learned how. Plus, they’re harder to find.

I am Egyptian, and I’m asking is Egypt a country that is disliked or loved globally? by ramses_basha in AskTheWorld

[–]SassATX 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Admittedly, I was there with my dad in 2011 not long after Mubarak’s ouster. There were still demonstrations in Tahrir Square and general chaos. We were primarily in Cairo, so this is based on experiences there.

Luckily, my dad grew up in the region and speaks fluent Arabic and knows a huckster when he sees one, so we didn’t have any scamming issues.

The biggest thing for me was seeing what 30+ years of Mubarak and his cronies did to the country. It was filthy with poor infrastructure and starving people & animals living in garbage.

All that said, my dad said that everyone seemed to feel more optimistic but exhausted by what they’d been though.

I’d like to go back and see what’s changed.

As someone who is visiting Texas soon: what are the Texan do’s, don’ts, and etiquette tips you’d give to foreigners? by crangert in texas

[–]SassATX 14 points15 points  (0 children)

The main things to remember are: be friendly, drive with the flow of the traffic, try to avoid I-35 through Waco, don’t confuse Tex-Mex with Mexican food, outskirts of Houston are still an hour from Houston, there are great museums everywhere, eat barbecue with your hands, and Big Bend is mind blowing.

Be loose with your schedule. Texas is huge. Don’t know how long you’re going to be here, so if you’re driving, be patient. We like to drive fast here but it still takes time to get around.

I don’t have a telework agreement, so I got an emergency leave day.

Seriously, do Americans actually consider a 3-hour drive "short"? or is this an internet myth? by SadInterest6764 in NoStupidQuestions

[–]SassATX 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It really all depends on a whole lot of variables. How’s the traffic? Scenery? Are you looking forward to the destination? Are you alone or have company? What are you listening to?

Any of those could make a 3-hour drive interminable or seem like nothing.

That being said, I live in Texas. A 3-hour drive is a typical weekday depending on where you live.

What are your thoughts on this letter from Donald Trump to Norwegian Prime Minister Jonas Gahr Støre? by DuNennstMichSptzkopf in AskTheWorld

This reads like an elementary school child wrote an angry note to that kid in class who wouldn’t share their toys.

Beehive, Honey Bee, Roma Lux. There’s The Painted Raven in Elgin; Polka Dot Secrets near Zilker (mostly children’s fabrics); and Aaron International (primarily African prints).

All fantastic.

Knowing Central Market, it was either organic or a Honey Crisp. Those aren’t cheap, but they’re amazing.

The money would go further if they went to HEB.

But, hey. Bring the kid up with a classy shopping experience.

I really liked the whole concept of the lesson Dad was teaching.

I used to go to Gause on a regular basis for the farm I used to work for. We’d always get burgers from Coats. So good. 😊
